Your attempt at redemption is now meaningless

Your attempt at redemption is now meaningless

Sep 02, 2022

After freshening up at my place, I drove to Devin’s apartment. The entire car ride, the sadness and anger started to wash away from me. Even though Devin messes up sometimes. Okay, a lot of the times. Devin still knows the way to my heart. He still remembers that I absolutely love date night. First, we get dinner, then we come back home to find a terrible movie on rotten tomatoes and make fun of it as we watch.

I got to Devin's place first, and when I opened the door, my jaw dropped the apartment looked like a tornado ripped through it. I definitely do not remember it being this messy when I was here last night.

Walking over to the kitchen, I cleaned the few dirty dishes Devin had in his sink. I used the sponge to scrape off the dried egg remains off the frying pan. Next, I walked over and grabbed the dirty waffle maker and cleaned it with a washcloth.

Devin must have had a big breakfast, because there were two dirty plates stacked next to the waffle maker. I grabbed the two plates and a dirty measuring cup with pancake batter residue and washed it in the sink. As I gently scrubbed the plate I was transported back to the Sunday brunch we had at the Superior Café a few weeks ago.

I told him how much it reminded me of this wonderful café I used to frequent with my ex back in the states called the Penultimate Café. Devin has never been over to the states and has lived in Germany all his life. I promised to give him a tour of all the best places, when we go visit my parents this summer. Placing the last wet dish in the dishwasher to dry, I walked over to the living room.

I picked up the throw pillows off the floor and placed them on the couch. I must have been angry last night and tossed the pillows as I stormed out.

When I looked at the coffee table, I noticed there were two wine glasses. Laying on its side was a bottle of Spätburgunder, one of the best Pinot Noir’s I’ve ever tasted. Devin doesn’t drink this stuff. I must’ve drank the entire bottle before I left without realizing it. But I can’t imagine why I would use two glasses, actually I don’t even remember drinking last night. Shrugging my shoulders, I must have been more upset then I thought. I cleaned the two glasses and placed the empty bottle on the counter so Devin could recycle it later.

With the main areas clean, I went to see if the tornado hit Devin’s bedroom. The bed was a complete mess. Walking over, I straightened the sheets and covers. Devin must have been in a hurry this morning because he always makes his bed before he starts his day. After putting the pillows back on the neatly tucked in covers. I walked into the bedrooms bathroom to touch up my makeup.

On the counter of the sink, I picked up lipstick I’d never seen before. I don’t remember buying this shade. My phone's ring made me jump, sending the lipstick tube to fly out of the bathroom and it rolled under the bed. I grabbed my phone – Devin's name lit up the screen.

“Hey babe, I’m on my way home now. Sorry, we have trial coming up, so we were putting in some extra hours.” Devin said.

“That’s fine. I let myself into your place and I’m touching up my makeup now. We can leave whenever you get here.” I said, walking over to the bed.

“Uh…okay…Sorry, the place was a mess. I kind of had to rush out this morning. See you soon. I love you.” Devin said.

“Love you too.” I said, hanging up the phone. Getting on the floor, I lifted the covers and pointed the flashlight from my phone under the bed. Oh my god, I am getting sloppy. I can’t believe I left my panties balled up underneath his bed. Reaching in to grab the lip stick and panties. I pulled them from underneath the bed. I spread the panties out with both hands in full display.

These are not mine.

But for them to miss all the signs and hints that Kelly has laid out the past year. They would have to be transformed into Helen Keller.
