The huge doors of the room flung upon.
"Please come in." I said facing backwards.
Hopefully this is the last client of the day. I can't take any more of this excruciating work.
"First, state your name and business, and then we will be able to talk."
I scanned the paper in my hands again, looking for who this client could be, but according to the roster, the previous person I attended to should have been my last....
Huh, this person didn't even bother to write their name down on the waiting list? Odd, but brave.
Who is this person to come in without even scheduling an appointment? Do they think this is a joke? And why are they so silent?
For some reason this feels familiar, like this person is...
I got up and turn around, looking for this fearless person who came in without proper notice.
I didn't find the client, but I found something better.
My heart soared.
No. It can't be.
It's really her...
She's really here. In front of me right now. After all my relentless looking, here she is just standing in front of me, as if I weren't looking for her for hours. I couldn't seem to find her anywhere. The girl I had met yesterday, my intruder!
Once again, her gentle beauty blew me away and left me in awe.
Her eyes seemed wide in shock as if she were looking at a tiger. But...why is she here?
Is she shaking? What is wrong with her?
And then she started to bolt.
What in the world?! Why is she running??
She had almost reached the door before I spoke. "Stop!" I commanded. And she obeyed. Her body immediately froze upon my words. What the hell, this girl... she's so odd!
First, she breaks into my room, screams at me, disappears, and now she runs away at just the sight of me.
I stepped down from the plateau and walked closer to her.
Finally again, we were just inches from each other....but she was still frozen, facing away from me. All I could see were her beautiful brown curls.
"I-i, I can explain...i-i just needed t-to um..."
At last, she spoke her first words, but they seemed to come out in a stutter.
The girl sighed and relaxed her shoulders, now turning to face me.
"I apologize for barging into your room and shouting at you. I thought it was my room, but I hadn't noticed that it wasn't." she said nervously, fiddling with her hands.
Huh? Was she still thinking of that? Then she must have been even more afraid than she let on. To be honest I wasn't even upset. If she had never come into my room, then I would not have met her, right?
"And, um...I apologize for...not apologizing sooner?" Her face scrunched up at this queer sentence. Even she didn't know what she was talking about.
I scoffed.
"It doesn't matter. I'd be more keen to accept your apology if you simply answer my question."
Her eyes turned defensive as she made a questioning face.
She still doesn't get it?
"Like I said before, state your name and business. What are you doing here?" I said slyly.
Yeah, what is she doing here? If she's simply looking to open an account or ship gifts, she could easily send her maid. Why come here personally? Girls her age don't usually do that. Also, how could I go without even knowing her name?
I was still waiting for her to answer my question but instead she stepped back and begun to chew on her lips nervously...
My eyes slid to her bottom lip.
Just the sight of it conjured a strange feeling within my chest.
"U-um actually I got lost again...I don't even know where I am."
"Wait, are you you serious?" I questioned. It couldn't be. But the girl replied with a firm nod.
How is it possible that someone gets lost so often? Then it couldn't have been the first time when she entered my room. Is she really this hopeless?
That's what I was thinking, but I still tried to fight the smile that was threatening to spread across my face. Yes, this was very funny to me.
"Well, this is the Royal Resource's Sector, since you're so oblivious to such an obvious fact..."
Did she really not see all the boxes and letters lined up on the shelf?
"Oh ok um w-well, I really must leave now. I u-um have to go attend to someone. So uh..." she stuttered.
"Attend to someone? Who?" I asked.
"Uh, well it's really none of your business! I have to go!" Like that, she turned away from me and quickly began to open the door, rushing to get out. But how could I let her go like this?
"Wait." I commanded again. Like before, she froze.
"You still have not told me your name."
The girl's face seemed to break out in a panic for a split second before composing herself again.
"Hm. Well, you'll know at the ball." she smiled. And with that she slipped out the room.
"Wha-" I tried to say, but she had already left.
At the ball? She's attending the ball? How had she been invited if she's only a visitor? How confusing. Hold on...!
Before the door had fully shut I grabbed it and held it slightly open.
From here, I could still see the girl's figure walking at a rapid pace towards the East Wing.
The East Wing??
How could she have a room where the Princess resides? A regular noble can't be in the same hallway as a royal. Unless....
Is she the Princess's lady-in-waiting? Is that it?
My mind flashed back to the moment she said she had to 'attend to someone.' The girl must be referring to the Princess! This makes sense. A lady-in-waiting would definitely be invited to such an event.
Ah, so that must really be it. Ha! What an insufferable position to be in. Attending to the Princess! Poor girl...
Thinking now, I walked back to my room slowly while processing the girl's behaviour. She really is strange. "You'll know at the ball." Who says that? Who does she think I am, Prince Charming in a fairytale? Ridiculous.
But obviously, I was still looking forward to it. Will I be able to recognize her in a mask? Will she even know the right place to go? What if she gets lost again?
I had already reached my room the time my worries had mounted.
Will she be with the Princess the whole time? How could I even talk to her? And why does she stutter so much??
All these questions I had were ones I want answered by the girl herself. I need to know more about her. Now, a great feeling of hope swelled in me. I'd really never felt this way before.
Am I excited to talk to her? Why is my heart racing at the thought of seeing her again...
I laid on my bed with my hand over my head. Will I also get to dance with her? Can someone like that even dance? Her coordination skills seemed to be extremely poor. She always seemed rushed and erratic.
*Knock Knock*
I sighed.
Probably the last person I wanted to see right now. Can he not let me bask in this odd feeling for a little while? He's so annoying. But he won't leave until I let him in... He's stubborn like that.
My goodness.
"Come in Luca."
