The shock did not leave David even after 2 hours. This led
to him being absent-minded during his part-time jobs as well. Meanwhile, Shībài
zhě was thinking about a way to get David out of this situation as safely as
possible. Because of the game, David was late for his first part-time job of the
day. This was a waiter at a small pizza shop. David was so absent that
sometimes he would get some orders wrong and at other times, he would drop some
of the orders. When he was done there, it was already 4 P.M. David spent most
of the time there being chewed out by the shift manager.
“What’s next” Shībài zhě finally said as they were headed towards David’s next job of the day.
“I’m headed for a delivery job,” David said as he put some earphones back on for others to see.
“Do you have a license?” Shībài zhě asked.
“For what?” David asked with confusion.
“To ride a bike.”
“Do you mean a motorcycle?”
“Yeah.”
“We use bicycles. Not motorcycles.”
“Oh.” Shībài zhě finally said. “That’s still dangerous.”
“How so?” David asked with even more confusion.
“Because earlier, you were completely blank and caused accidents. Imagine what kind of accidents will occur while on a bike on the road or the sidewalk.”
“So, what am I supposed to? In a few weeks, I’m going to get my ass handed to me.”
“Clear your head.”
“How am I supposed to do that.”
“Skip work and have some fun.”
David contemplated what Shībài zhě had just said. After thinking for a while, he said, “Ok. Let’s have some fun.”
“Wait what?” Shībài zhě said as he was surprised that it took so little convincing. Before he could ask David to clarify, he had already started running through the street and onto a bus.
Shībài zhě followed David the whole day as he enjoyed himself. David would go around famous landmarks and places to show Shībài zhě the city that never sleeps. He used his money to buy many different types of food from stalls and shops, all the while taunting Shībài zhě with the food that he cannot eat.
“This will bite you in the back you know.” Shībài zhě said after a long day of excitement as they were heading home.
“What will,” David asked with glee on his face.
“Taunting me. Karma will get you back.” Shībài zhě answered as they reached the front door of David’s house.
“Well by the time it reaches me I’ll be long gooooooonnnneee. Oh Shit.”
When Shībài zhě looked forward, it was David’s parents looking at him with the utmost anger on their faces.
“Inside, now.” David’s father said with complete anger.
David complied as he got inside and closed the door behind him, not ready to be yelled at.
