I woke up to a slight headache, but not surprising as I stayed up a bit later than usual to plan out my actions and also figure out where Skye lived, since they texted the address to me. As they said, they definitely lived a lot closer to the city, as compared to me where I lived in the suburbs.
After getting ready for the day, I grabbed my violin case and headed off towards Skye’s house, while stopping at the café to grab my iced mocha. As usual, the iced mocha helped in relieving my headache (or so I thought), and I quickly boarded the next train downtown. It was then I realised I forgot to buy the flowers at the nearby florist. I smacked myself in the forehead, and decided that I would instead buy the flowers at a florist closer to Skye’s house. Thank goodness for Google Maps.
After buying the flowers I wanted (red roses mean love, right?), I slowly walked to their house. Skye seemed to live in a neighborhood filled with various restaurants, and I was glad to be able to expand my palate if we held music sessions at their place. I actually stopped by one of the ice cream parlors and tried my favorite ice cream, which was mint chocolate chip. As I expected, the ice cream was smooth and creamy, perfect for a hot summer day.
I looked at the time again, and realised that I was running late. I quickly finished my ice cream and started walking quickly to my destination. As it turned out, I wasn’t too far away from where I was, and Skye’s house was easy to locate with their quaint garden fence.
I walked up to their doorstep and pressed the bell. No answer, and no one opened the door. That was weird.
I pressed the doorbell again to see if it worked. It definitely did as I heard the bell ringing inside the house. Okay, Skye must be playing tricks at me.
I decided to knock on the door instead and announced my presence, in case Skye really didn’t hear the doorbell. No answer again.
I was starting to get worried about Skye, maybe something bad had happened to them. I then turned the doorknob, and surprisingly it was unlocked. I went inside and realised that Skye couldn’t hear the doorbell because the music was quite loud. I then walked around to see if Skye was there, and what I saw next had me close to tears.
Skye was definitely in their house. They were in the kitchen preparing what seemed to be food for later. They were also being kissed on the cheek by a woman I didn’t recognize. They were very lovey-dovey, and were constantly touching each other on the hand, and even hugging one another all the time. I felt so out of place that I was becoming a third wheel.
Skye moved on from me.
They had someone else that they love now.
Skye no longer wanted me as a partner.
I couldn’t blame them since I was the one who rejected their confession in the first place, but I also couldn’t stop myself from tearing up at the sight. After all, I finally had feelings for them. I was just too late in realising that.
Somehow the flowers I was holding dropped to the ground, and I didn’t notice until Skye turned towards me and their jaw dropped.
“Lee, I didn’t realise you’re here. This isn’t what it looks like.”
Instead of replying to them, I ran out of the house with my violin case, while I continued to cry as if I lost something or someone precious to me. In some ways, it was true: I lost a chance of being together with Skye. They moved on from me. I ran so quickly my heart was beating rapidly and I started running out of breath.
I wasn't able to breathe.
I was feeling very dizzy.
My head was hurting.
My mouth was really dry.
I felt like I was suffocating.
I felt like I was dying.
I heard someone yelling at me “Wait! Lee! Lee!”
I tried to look back but instead I felt like I tripped on something and fell to the ground.
The world turned black after that.
