After lunch with our parents, we resumed our normal activities and continued on with our lives. Throughout this time, Skye continued to be busy with work as a musician, doing multiple jobs ranging from songwriting to 1-on-1 lessons with their students. I, too, focused on my work at Wish Corp. I got promoted as a senior, with Rob continuing being my colleague but instead of passing me cases, I could pass cases to the rest of my team instead. This, however, also meant I had a lot more responsibilities and had more reporting to be done. I expected it though, and being able to work from home on some days definitely helped as I could work in the same area as Skye.
It was getting closer to the day of our wedding in a month. After some deliberation, both families agreed on an intimate wedding at a hotel with just our immediate family and closest friends. I thought of various places to get married, ranging from a beach to a community hall. We ended up deciding on a simple hotel buffet in a ballroom as both Skye and I didn’t want to worry about food and drinks, on top of wanting to make sure we look good for the pictures no matter the weather.
I was busy working on a report, but then I received a call from someone I wasn’t expecting to see until the day of the wedding. I silently groaned as I typically didn’t enjoy calls, but considering that this was my sister, Mei, I had no choice but to answer.
“Hi, Mei, it has been a while. Is there a reason why you’re calling?”
“Hi, Lee, it has been a while indeed. Yes, I was calling because I’m wondering if I could meet you on one of the days with Skye, since you both are getting married after all.”
I sighed and then looked at my calendar app, well our calendar as Skye kindly synced their calendar to my phone too.
“Yeah, we’re both available on Wednesday night this week. Is that okay with you?”
“Sounds good, I’ll see you at the pasta restaurant near my house? I know you enjoy pasta, and I bet you missed it a lot.”
She had a point. I hadn’t been back to the pasta restaurant near my old home (now Mei’s home) in a while now.
“Sure, I’m actually busy at work right now, so I’ll talk to you more on Wednesday?”
It wasn’t a lie but I wasn’t in the mood of chatting too much with my sister.
“Okay, see you Wednesday, Lee.”
I quickly ended the call and texted Skye that we had plans on Wednesday night with my sister. Skye read the message and immediately gave me a call instead. Now, if it were my future spouse, I would answer no matter how busy I was as I loved listening to their voice. Yes, I was whipped for them.
“Yes, babe? I thought you’re busy recording your parts at the studio?”
“I saw your message, my dear fiance. That’s weird. I got a text from Tanya not too long ago that she wants to meet on Wednesday night as well. I just texted back to her that I had plans, but she seemed adamant to meet at that time.”
I chuckled. Tanya was Skye’s sister. Perhaps it was a sign that our sisters were up to something together. I wasn’t sure if they knew each other, but since they were about the same age, I wasn’t too surprised if they did know one another.
“Actually, it’s fine if Tanya joins Mei with us for dinner. I hope you don’t mind that either.”
“Yeah, I was going to ask you if it is okay if Tanya joins us. Cool, looks like we get to meet with our sisters this Wednesday.”
I was feeling slightly mischievous so I decided to press on.
“Mx. Long, is Tanya the only sibling that you have, or are there any more that I should know?”
Skye started choking but I could tell it was due to laughter, rather than being in panic.
“No, Mx. Yang, Tanya is the only sibling that I have, or at least that’s what my father told me so far. Anyway, I have to go back to recording. See you later tonight, my love.”
I snorted. Of course they could spin it as a joke. I put my lips together to imitate a kissing sound, which Skye definitely heard and gasped.
“See you later, babe. I love you.”
I ended the call and returned to work. By the time I was done with the report, it was almost time to leave the office. I slowly packed my stuff and took the train home as Skye was still at work, this time at their 1-to-1 lesson with their student. I started cooking dinner as I knew they would be famished by the time they reached home. I was about to cover the dishes when I was hugged from the back. Skye was home, and I didn’t pay attention.
“Honey, I’m home and I’m so hungry. Thank you for cooking as always.”
Interesting, they used yet another pet name and I enjoyed it just as much as “my love”. I turned back to look at them and of course, my almost-spouse was grinning at me. I quickly gestured for them to sit and start eating while the food was still warm. Meanwhile, I grabbed another set of utensils and a plate as I enjoyed eating with Skye.
“Of course, babe. I know you’re always hungry after a long day at work, so I figured a homemade dinner is what you need. Looks like I’m right.”
Once we finished devouring everything that was on a plate, Skye got up to wash the dishes while I cleaned the dining table. Then, we retired to our bedroom after taking a bath together. I was exhausted after a long day at work too, and soon after I fell asleep in my babe’s arms.
Soon enough, it was a Wednesday evening. Skye picked me up from work in their car so that we can get to the pasta restaurant at the same time. It was then I remembered that I had a burning question to ask them.
“Babe, why do you always take the train to work when you have a car to go around places?”
Skye looked at me with their eyes widened, then a blush slowly appeared on their face.
“Well, I was hoping to meet you again after I noticed that you take the train to and from work, but more realistically, I enjoy taking the train because it saves on gas money.”
I nodded and beamed at them. It made sense as gas prices were skyrocketing, and though Skye may be relatively well off, they were also frugal (except when it came to our dates). It was also quite romantic of them to take the train because of me.
As the drive to the pasta restaurant was not too near, I turned on the Bluetooth speaker and synced my phone to play some tunes. It was then Skye realised that I have been listening to many of their written songs, and turned to me when we stopped at an intersection.
“My love, have you been listening to the songs I’ve written? Why is every track a song with my credits on it?”
It was my turn to blush. I didn’t want to tell them that I made a playlist filled with their songs. Even though the singer wasn’t my babe, I could tell the lyrics were for me, though I could be overthinking and it was just a coincidence. I didn’t mind being their muse when it came to songwriting though.
“Yes, I actually have a playlist with every song you have written. You do tend to write a lot of love songs. Sometimes I wonder if the songs were meant for me.”
Skye turned to me again and nodded eagerly.
“Actually, yes, every song that you hear, love song or not, was written with you in mind. It is my way of saying ‘I love you’ in as many songs as possible. You were and still are my muse.”
I knew it. My babe really wrote everything with me in mind. They were so sweet, and I was glad that I asked.
“I’m honored to be your muse, babe. I figured that most of it was about me, but I’m glad that I finally have confirmation from you. I love you so much, babe, it hurts.”
“I hope you know that I feel exactly the same towards you, my love. It hurts, but for all the right reasons.”
