How am I supposed to do any research with that thing around!
"I told you to ignore it," Liam's voice spoke up. I looked over at him and noticed his eyes on me from over the top of the book he was reading. "I can tell you're still thinking about it. I told you. It's nothing."
That's easy for him to say.
I don't know how long he's had that poltergeist attached to his shadow for.
If it's been some time then he'd have been used to it being around.
But he caught on quick that I was still distracted by it.
He must be pretty observant.
Then again I already figured that out with what he told me earlier.
"That's easy for you to say. I'm not used to seeing these things," I told him with a light huff.
A light laugh escaped his mouth, covering it as he did so. It surprised me. He didn't seem the type to laugh at something like that. "I guess you're right. I've had my shadow like this for a few years now, so I'm used to it."
"A few years....?"
He nodded at my question. "Yes, though it was a shock when I first discovered it."
I hummed to myself; many thoughts going through my head at his words.
So, he also got a surprise at a spirit appearing before him.
I guess that means he's just used to it being around now.
I hope I don't fall into that category.
"Did you know....?" I gestured with my head towards the floor where his shadow would be.
He blinked at my question, seeming surprised by it.
I guess it was kind of intrusive into his private life, but I'm just curious.
I don't know the ghost haunting me.
If Liam and I have similar problems with an unknown ghost haunting us then it's something we need to find out why.
I scanned his face as he shook his head and gave me a wry smile. "No, sorry. I didn't know them."
Why do I feel like he's lying?
I'm not a lie detector, but I can still get a small sense of when someone is lying to me.
If I press him he'll probably clam up and not want my cooperation anymore.
I let out a sigh in irritation as these thoughts ran through my head.
I guess I should leave it for now.
He seems like he knows more than he's letting on and hopefully he'll explain more later.
I hate being led on like this.
I would much rather do things on my own, but the help is kinda nice for a change.
It's just annoying he's keeping possible vital information to himself.
I guess I have to wait until he's ready to say anymore on this.
I doubt he trusts me, so I guess I'll have to wait until he does.
I decided to go back to my book; skimming the pages as quickly as possible. My eyes looked up to Liam to see that he was also back looking through his own book as well.
I let out a small sigh as my eyes gaze down at the watch on my wrist.
4:00pm, huh....?
It was 3:20pm when I left school.
So, it took me half an hour to get here by bus and I've only been here for ten minutes. The time went by quickly. Should I probably head home soon? I don't wanna stay out too late....
"If you want to head home before it gets dark go ahead. I can stay behind a bit longer," Liam spoke up, still looking down at his own book and waving his hand at me.
"Really?" I asked, surprised that he'd let me go so easily.
He lifted his gaze up to look at me, giving me a small smile. "Sure. I'm just thankful that you're helping me with this. If you need to head home then go ahead."
I don't know whether this is an act or not.
He's being way too nice.
So nice it's making me feel guilty about leaving him to do this on his own.
I've never felt guilty before.
I hate this feeling....
"How about I take some books home .... kind of like homework....?" I said, biting my bottom lip; slightly nervous of his reaction.
I've never been around boys that often or anyone except my Mum.
So, being around two different boys in under two days in kind of overwhelming.
I didn't expect his reaction at all, but then again he has shown to be quite pleasant. "Really? That's great!" He exclaimed, giving me another smile that didn't fully reach his eyes. I wonder why that is? "I'll take the other half home after I'm done here."
I nodded my head at him as I grabbed a few more books from his pile along with the book I had just been reading. I stood up, grabbed my bag and the books. I was about to go and borrow these books out when Liam coughed to gain my attention.
At least that's what I think he was doing.
I turned back around to face him as he put his book down. "I'm curious about this ghost that's haunting you. Can you bring it to school sometime so I can observe it?"
I blinked at his question, shocked.
What?
He wanted me to bring the ghost to school to observe it?
"I understand, but...." I winced at sound of my voice. "....I asked it not to come because I might get distracted."
A laugh left his lips when he heard what I said, covering his mouth as he tried to stop himself.
How is that funny?
It's a pretty reasonable.... reason, isn't it?
He waved me off as he stopped laughing, but had a small smile on his face. "Sorry, I just found that funny. Classrooms can get quite chaotic sometimes, so I doubt a ghost can be a major distraction compared to other students."
I narrowed my eyes at him.
Is he trying to annoy me?
But I suppose he's right.
There are many times that students are distracting those that actually want to learn.
So, maybe I can take the ghost to school just once so Liam can obverse it.
He might be able to figure out why I'm being haunted; at least I hope so.
I just hope that ghost doesn't pose a huge distraction when I take him.
"Alright...." I let out a small sigh. "I'll bring the ghost tomorrow."
Liam gave me a smile as if he'd won a game.
It gave me an off feeling,
I already knew there was more to Liam than he was telling me, but I definitely know now that he's not as he seems.
Should I still get involved with him?
I mean he seems nice, but I also don't know what it is he's hiding.
It could have something to do with ghosts or even how he knows about the serial killer case.
No matter if I feel an uneasy feeling from Liam or that shadow of his I need to find out how to get rid of the ghost that's haunting me.
I am also curious of that murder that happened in the 90's.
The two could be connected.
I guess I just have to keep an eye on Liam and make sure I'm never alone somewhere with him.
I can't fully trust him.
If he has something he's hiding about ghosts and serial killers, then why should I trust him?
He needs to earn it, but I don't have his either.
So, I guess we're even there.
I gave a nod and headed on my way to borrow the books in my arms out. My main concern is finding a way to get rid of that ghost in my house; the mystery that Liam wants to solve is secondary.
However I am curious about it....
This is first time I've felt interested in anything and I'm a little excited about that....
Here is chapter seven of ‘I Can’t Find My Dead Body’ and the information is slowly being revealed. I said previously I don’t like to do info-dumps and even if this is slow in giving information that is how mysteries work. I hope you enjoy😁
