Read I Can’t Find My Dead Body!

Naomi's POV

I'm going to tell you a story about something that happened to me two years ago. It made me realize some things about myself that I never would have before and I .... made a friend during that time as well.

I can't believe this....

All I wanted was for a nice, quiet evening at the library.

But no....

I had to borrow my books out and then head home because they were having a 'kids-reading-group' today.

Honestly....

Some of us just want to pick up a book and read.

That's what libraries are for.

They're not for social events and gatherings.

They're for reading and studying.

Oh, I was thinking to myself so much I lost track of time.

I'm home....

My name is Naomi Bailey and I'm sixteen years old. I live with my Mum in a small apartment that's not very far from the school I go to. I usually wear my dark red hair in a plait and have it hang over my right shoulder with my fringe held back by a clip. My Mum has to work two jobs to make sure we have enough, but I don't really pay any attention to her. I mind my own business and she's never home when I am anyways.

I like my privacy.

After entering the small apartment, closing the door behind me and leaving my bag on the couch I head into the kitchen. The pantry was barren. I scowled and closed the door with a scoff while heading over to the fridge instead.

I stand before the fridge, swinging the door open only to find a pale blue face staring up at me with wide blue eyes from an upside down posture.

We stared at each other for a moment.

A moment too long for my liking.

I quickly slammed the door shut and laughed under my breath. "Wh...What the hell." I grabbed my head as my eyes stared at the fridge. "Am I hallucinating? Did I eat something funny for lunch?"

Then .... what was that in the fridge?

It looked like a human....

Was that a body?

Did someone hide a body in our fridge!?

Is my Mum secretly a serial killer!?

Should I open it back up to check again?

I shook my head at the thought of opening the door and witnessing what could potentially be a dead body in my fridge. I could just be making stuff up, but I don't want to believe I'm possibly crazy either.

Or maybe I should....

My eyes stay on the fridge. Not moving away as I take a deep breath to calm my nerves and reach my hand out to the handle when.... "Wait....!?" An arm came flying out of the fridge causing my body to jerk back in response. The next to come out were the head and the torso; those eyes staring at me with something I couldn't put my finger on. "You ... can see me, right?"

It was a boy.

Probably around my age.

He was pale, however his hair and clothes were a pale blue while his eyes were a darker shade. He was so pale I could almost see right through him. He had messy hair with a parted fringe and wore a hoodie with baggy jeans.

He almost looked as if he was glowing as well.

How did this guy get in my fridge?

"You can see me! You're inspecting my figure! I mean I am pretty good-looking," He said, raising an eyebrow at me.

I shook my head at his suggestive remark, "No. I don't know who you are, but get out."

He tilted his head to the side, confusion covering his face. "You're not questioning how I got into your house, your refrigerator or how I got out?"

What is he on about?

He turned around and pointed at his body which was still half-stuck in the fridge. "No normal human can do this. You must be in serious denial about seeing me to not realize what I am straight away."

"What are you say....!?" I stopped and finally got a good look at him.

Pale to the point of see-through.

Somehow got into a locked apartment.

Somehow was inside a refrigerator and is half-stuck in it.

"You're a...." I cut myself off as no more words came out as my eyes widened; staring at him.

He clapped his hands together as if joyed I got it right, finally coming out of the fridge entirely and floating over to the counter to sit on. "Right. I'm a ghost. Though there's no need to be scared I can't really do anything."

This isn't real.

It can't be.

I'm not seeing ... a real ghost.

He's gotta be just a figment of my imagination.

"Have you never seen a ghost before?"

"Of course I haven't!" I exclaimed, shakily, never taking my eyes off of where he landed. "Ghosts aren't real. They shouldn't exist."

He pointed at himself once more. "But ... I'm very much real." He jumped off the countertop as gravity still seemed to exist around him, standing only a small distance in front of me. "See?" He threw his arm through my head.

I cried out in shock and jumped back, hitting the fridge in the process. I had felt a cold sensation hit my head as if an ice pack was there. I placed my hand there, staring at the boy in front of me.

"D....Don't do that!" I exclaimed, unable to keep the fear from my voice.

I want to keep my composure, but this is something I'm not used to.

He did that head tilt again, "You needed confirmation that I was indeed a ghost and I gave it to you."

He did, but....

"You didn't need to throw your arm through me skull!" I exclaimed, a redness covering my cheeks.

I have never felt this angry at anyone before.

Damn him....

"Was that wrong of me?"

"Of course it's wrong! You don't just do something like...." What am I doing? Why am I shouting at a ghost? I grit my teeth together and turn my head away in a huff. "Why are you here?"

He stared at me with his dark blue eyes and grinned. "I was just bored!"

I turned around to face him, eyebrows furrowed. "Huh?"

This guy is seriously getting on my last nerve.

"Actually...." My expression changed as soon as his head lowered, hair covering his eyes. "I need help. The kind that I can't do by myself."

"And why does this include me?"

"I .... can't find my body..."

There was a silence between us for a moment.

But really?

"Your .... body?" I asked him, stuttering it out.

What the hell....

He nodded his head. "After I died there was a moment where I saw that light everyone talks about, but then it suddenly disappeared." I frowned to myself. "I thought once you die you go into the light, but I concluded that maybe I need my body for it to work."

Has he not seen any supernatural movies?

It's not the body that will make the call, but the soul, so he obviously has unfinished business.

And I really don't wanna get into that.

I let out a long sigh, "Sorry, but I can't. I don't want any of this to affect my daily life."

"Please!" He exclaimed, a begging tone coming from his voice. "As soon as we find my body I'll be gone! I promise!"

I scrunch my face up in irritation.

How annoying....

This is why I hate to be around people.

This most likely won't be something that will be easy to complete.

I may like a good mystery novel, but this is insane....

He's got it in his head that his body is what he needs to move on not what's in his past.

Then again he may not even remember his past, so that's another problem right there....

I turned my head away, folding my arms across my chest and letting out a light groan. "Fine, but once this is over you better keep that promise."

His eyes seemed to sparkle, twirling in the air in victory. After he seemed to be done with his little 'victory dance' he turned back to me and held his hand out. I looked at it with a raise of my eyebrow.

Seriously....

My hand would just pass right through his.

"I don't remember my life, but I know an abbreviation of my name is Ricky," he told me, giving me another smile.

What a big word....

I let out another sigh, pretending to grab his hand to humour him. "Naomi...."

"It's nice to meet you, Naomi!"

And so began our pact to find a dead boy's body.
