Appearance: To Vist, ghosts appear to be translucent but are otherwise humanoid. Supernaturals can sometimes see ghosts when the ghosts are wanting to be seen, but not all supernaturals can see them.
Abilities: Ghost can teleport themselves, walk through solid objects, and make themselves invisible to most eyes. They are able to interact with some things, including eating food, when they desire. Ghosts are sometimes used as assassins since they can rarely be detected or avoided.
Ghosts mostly do not retain the abilities of their prior supernatural type. For instance, a shifter who is turned into a ghost is not able to shift into their animal form. There are some exceptions to this, primarily in supernaturals who affect the mind (such as shades, somni, and sirens).
Ghosts cannot be hurt by most forms of magic, but there are some witch spells, dragon magic, and demon magic which can destroy their new form and end their ghost existence.
Ghosts do not have hearth magic, but most forms of hearth magic actually will not hurt them. The exceptions are fairy, dragon, and unicorn hearth magic.
Alignment: Ghost are unaligned. To the extent they have magic, it is viewed as death magic since they died in order to exist. If ghosts are contracted against their will, they rarely are fond of the witch or other person responsible for this, but they cannot disobey the person, either. Some places, including Avenglade, have laws in place to prevent ghosts being bound without their permission, but some ghosts would rather just fulfill the contract and be released quickly than deal with following official channels to get the contract canceled. Since witches are most often responsible for the creation of ghosts, ghosts usually work most closely with witches.
Lifespan: Most ghosts exist for about 2 weeks, up to a few months. There are exceptions, depending on what the ghost is bound to/what its contract involves. Ghosts are created when a supernatural dies under specific circumstances (such as a death curse or a magical illness) and someone (usually a witch) binds their soul to something in this world. Essentially, ghosts are usually murdered and rarely have a say in their existence as a ghost, but sometimes they may arrange in advance with a witch to be turned into a ghost and what the terms of their contract will be. Ghosts cease to exist when their contract is fulfilled. In some rare cases, the contract involves the existence of something that does not end easily, meaning that the ghost is virtually immortal. For instance, the ghost in Sunrise is bound to the ground itself, so as long as the ground there exists, so will the ghost.
Personality: Ghost personalities vary widely, but if they were contracted against their will, ghosts may be very bitter and unhappy about being forced to assist the witch and may be as uncooperative as possible.
Known hybrid variants: None. Ghosts cannot reproduce.
Example members: Cassie and the unnamed ghost from the Vist town
Ghost appear primarily in Ashes, Hunted, and the bonus story Sunrise.
