In the Holy Methian Empire, the Grand Duchy of Lunacine is one of 5 the major backbones that keep the Empire afloar. Originally a small peerage, the House Lunacine rose to prominence for its active defensive roles in war. The family Lunacine are also adept elementalists specializing in rare forms of magic—specifically ice and lightning.
With 4 sons and 3 daughters, each child of Lord William and Lady Elijah possesses certain gifts that make them famous in their own right. The Eldest sons and daughters are powerful knights, mages, and merchants, and the youngest, the twins, are the stars of the Empire, worshipped and praised by all facets of society.
And then, there’s Aoife.
Aoife Lunacine is the 4th son, and the youngest son outside of the twins. He is not great, he is not tall, he is not handsome, and he is not amazing. In fact, the only word that would perfectly fit deservingly would be ‘basic’.
Even his name reflects this, simply meaning ‘the other’.
When Aoife was born, everyone was oddly hopeful that he would grow up to be a person of greatness just like his siblings. Over the years, however, it became abysmally clear that just like his name, Aoife possessed virtually nothing of value. Despite this, his family continued to hope that he would improve with time. But, as his worth continuously dropped more and more, even his own parents finally gave up and began to hate him; all form of love stopped with Aoife and eventually turned into veiled abuse—that is until the twins were born.
With
the twins came the return of the love and affection that was missing—that is, all at the
expense of Aoife, who was promptly ignored and abandoned. Eventually, he would even be banished from the main house, forced hidden for the rest of his life: forgotten
and abandoned.
What no one realizes however, is that Aoife has a secret. He has a gift; an ancient, long forgotten power that precedes and outstrips magic. A power so great, that it defies logic and breaks conventional thought. Practically merged with it, Aoife comes to embrace it and ever-evolving change his power brings, accepting in his own unique way, all the negative malice that targets him. Unfortunately, his active use of his freedom, comes with a price.
