Through My Eyes: Index

Kapras

Kapras

Aug 15, 2022

Appearance:         When in human form, kapra appear to Vist to have goat horns and skin with fish scales.  In their shifted forms, kapra have lion heads and paws with goat horns but mermaid tails.  For obvious reasons, they do not shift when not in water.

Abilities:                Kapras are a type of merfolk and therefore have elemental magic (earth, fire, water, and air).  Kapras are more of a land-based merfolk, however, and do not have to spend as much time underwater, so their elemental magics tend to be more balanced.  They can also exist in either fresh or salt water.

Kapra hearth magic will use elemental magic to defend the house, but it is weaker hearth magic and generally easier to get through.

Alignment:            Kapras are generally allied with other merfolk, especially other merfolk who are more land-based (such as merfolk shifters that do not live underwater, for instance seals or sea otters).  They generally do not like hydras due to a long-standing feud.

Lifespan:               Kapras usually live about 175-200 years.

Personality:           Kapras follow their pride leader or hunt chief, who has the strongest magic of their generation, and disobedience to the pride leader is viewed very negatively by the entire community.  Kapras are extremely loyal and unlikely to question their leader’s decisions, even when those decisions are bad.  Because they base their community on their pride leader, kapras often live in a kapra community rather than with other merfolk.  A lone kapra may find a lion shifter, goat shifter, or other merfolk to associate with instead and, if the other individual has leadership qualities, they are likely to be a loyal follower.  Kapras generally like to have a leader to follow and get stressed when they don’t have one.  This can put kapras in an awkward position of following bad leaders without challenging them when necessary or being more susceptible to being misled when they are alone and not with other kapras.

Known hybrid variants:      None.  Like most merfolk, kapras do not have hybrid children.

Example members:                 Philo

Kapras currently only appear in the bonus story History Lesson (Diana).

Hmm, it seems like kapras and hydras have similar cultures, yet they hate each other. How...smart of them.
