As the name suggests, stories 5 and 6 are surprises that I'm sure you'll be glad to know or older stories that I've begun to rewrite from the ground up.
Can you guess?
If you guessed correctly, then you're in luck... because yes, 'F is For' and 'The Suicidal Prince' will be returning soon. The originals were still be left up, but as you all know their now officially WIPs and discontinued for the time being. The newer stories are currently being reworked, which means fo one of them, a new change of identity is necessary. As 'F is For' is the my baby and my main brainchild, the name will stick, and so the older version that is currently up will be renamed to its original pen title 'Cascading Dreams' within the next few weeks. This is because when I originally drafted the story 11 years ago (dear God, I was practically in high school, I feel so old ;p), I chose the name 'Cascading Dreams', because at the time that was the original point; the book itself was supposed to be a series of non-linear, non-sequentially told vivid dreams had by various people of random identities and backgrounds, all tied together by the subconcious realm of the dream state.
As I continued playing around with it, however, the scale changed considerably, but the idea of connected dreams remained. Now here I am continuing this idea, but I've since created an entirely new world based on a much more grounded concept that fits more into the direction I want to go in.
So summary: the story currently titled 'F is For', will be changed to its older name, 'Cascading Dreams'. The new rebranded version will launch soon, and feature a welcome but referential revamp. Pieces of the older story will make their return in small ways such as cameos and references, but overall, the entire story is complete overhaul, one that I hope will sit well with you guys as my readers.
On that note, we come to the next story 'The Suicidal Prince'.
This story will also be returning, butcontrary to the original, will be completely rebuilt from the ground up. The reason for this is because after going through some extensive positing and personal reflection, I realise that the story that I originally wanted to tell with this simply conflicted with the narrative flow and the depictions and language I used to establish it. The world was unfinished, and the character I originally had in mind simply had no place in this universe. So understanding that my need for coherency ended up clashing with my fascination with vulgarity, I ultimately made the decision to pull the plug on this work as it I simply couldn't in good conscience continue to write it knowing that true depth of my work would be marred by the graphic subject that I, in bad taste, threw in as form of shock value to keep the reader interested.
So saying this, going forward, the story formerly known as 'The Suicidal Prince' will launch under a different name and identity, separate from the original. Just like 'F is For', bits and pieces of concepts and ideas will be tranferred over to the now work, but the guts and grits will be not tread the same path. Even the name, (which I haven't given the new work yet), is still undetermined, so for it will hitherto be referred to as 'Project Nereus' until the time of its release.
For thos who hoped, or at least expected me to finish 'The Suicidal Prince', I truly am sorry that it will not be getting a continuation or conclusion in the forseeable future. As an apology, however, if there are those who have a desire to create their own extension of the original work, I am more than willing to allow this. However, given the subject matter that was addressed prior to its discontinuation, I humbly ask that I be notified beforehand, or at the very least, referrenced to; as this is my original work and something that I created not out of malice, the vulgar connotations I created when I wrote this are highly offensive, and I, as a black man, understand that givent the socio-political climate our country is in right now, do not want to demonized or flagged for the use of inapprioprate influences based on my content.
If at any point it becomes clear that my work is influencing a slew of racist, homophobic, or other equally divisive works that I personally did not create myself or authorize, I will take down 'The Suicidal Prince' permantly as it is evident that my original work was indeed the cause of the problem. Going forward, I do plan to tackle heavy-handed issues in my works, but I also plan to be tasteful, or at the very least conscious about how far I can push the envelope.
Growing in a relatively safe environment, I came to understand the hardships of being Black in America when I grew older and more closer to others who didn't live in the same sense of security as me, so while I do intend to criticise the views and ideas of Black culture in some degree, I do so because I am a Black man living as a Black man in a world where Black men are viewed with an equal measure of both hypocrisy and derision.
I'm sorry if this post particular post seemed to veer off course into more deep and depressing tones, I want to make somethings clear to you, my readers, because of the climate we're living in. The issue is not that the voice of young Black men like me are silent, simply because we do not voice our opinions; the problem is that young Black men like me have to be silent, because of the harsh reality that other Black men and women, especially in this day age, are the first to cancel and ignore us, because we refuse to adhere to notions and stereotypes that don't make sense to us. If we think that the glaring hypocrisy of Black Culture is wrong, we're labelled outsiders, or seen as 'coons'. It's not fair, but it is the way of the world now. And I understand that very well, and I have to deal with that every single day I step outside of my house.
But I digress...
In summary: 'The Suicidal Prince' will relaunch with a different name and story, while the original work will remain untouched and unfinished. Anyone who wants to continue the work, and create their own is welcome to do so as long as i'm given notice, but if it becomes clear that work is detrimental any form, I will delete the 'The Suicidal Prince' and it will as it is, an unfinished manuscript that shows how out of touch with reality I truly was when I created it.
With that in mind, I end this post hoping that my readers understand my reasons and are willing to continue reading my works going forward. I won't promise you that sense of proportion will change, but I do intend to take my writings more seriously as I try to create an experience that is entertaining as it educational and thought-provoking.
