He tells me that all Sectors are different. The lower the number, the more people there were inside the walls, and that would mean that not everyone could have access to food and such. He also told me which Sectors have military power, which are 4, 8, and 10. He says that 10 is the safest and cleanest Sector, but it is mostly inhabited by military or very very important people, like the president or something. Us outsiders, as we are called don’t give a damn about the politics within the walls. He tells me more about his family and how it was important that he be reunited with his sister because she was his only family left.
I say goodnight to the kid, give him a blanket, and head upstairs for some shut-eye. That shut-eye was quickly interrupted when some zombies tried to trespass, but with my activated defenses, they didn’t have a shot. But I go downstairs to check that the kid was alright, he’s shaken up but after a glass of water, he goes back to sleep.
We leave early to meet up with Jess near the gates of the town, she got me some extra ammo, that she was gonna keep in her car. We saw a few zombies here and there killed some and left the other alone, the kid sent me a questioned face my way to which I shrugged. It’s not fun if I kill all the zombies, they don’t do much and it's most peoples’ job out here, also I’m a hunter specialized in Zombs so zombies don’t get me much money. We stop after a few hours for s short break.
“Hey kid, did you sleep alright? Not too scared out here with us crazies?” Jess asks.
“Not so well, we had a zombie attack in the middle of the night and I’m still worried about my sister so, I didn’t get much sleep. How long will it take us to get to Sector 4?” He answers.
“A day or two. You’re lucky we haven’t been approached by Zombs so far, they always keep a trace on our smell. Don’t worry kid we’ll get you there, and don’t forget to try and get us in.” I answer gesturing for him to get back in the car. A few seconds later, two Zombs cars pull up, speak of the devil, I really had to go and open my mouth about them. Jess has already shot the wheels of both cars so they ain’t going anywhere. I take my shotgun out, tell the kid to stay put, and close the windows. Jess shot one of the drivers already so I get the other, there are 4 left, we both shoot two each and head out. I don’t know if it’s the kid they hunting or me anymore but we need to get rid of the kid fast to see the answer. I did kill one whole operation yesterday, so they’re probably pretty pissed off by me for that.
As it gets dark, we set camp, set some small land mines here and there, and a barb wire fence around us. It’s not our first trip out of our areas, Jess and I have both been called up by other towns that needed help in the beginning, and learned the hard way that even though there are no traces of zombies they are still here ready to feed. That’s how we lost Harvey, it was the beginning of the Zombs popping up, it started talking and asking for help so we thought it was human, Harvey was the closest, got attacked but not killed but he was pretty much dead since he had gotten bit by a zombie. Jess couldn’t shoot him so I had to. Harvey was a good partner to Jess; they had stayed together even throughout the zombie epidemic and he was a fun guy to have around. Jess stayed out of the hunting business for a few months after that but, soon got bored farming our lands. It did her good, she really fell down a hole during those months. We eat dinner in silence and head to our car for some shut-eye, sleeping in a car is never comfortable but it will do the job. If we keep up the pace, we’re at we’ll get to this Sector 4 in no time.
