"It all started with a flash of light.
The following thunderclap was drowned in the screams of the 50 passengers of flight 1999, as the wing struck by the wrath of the heavens split apart after the impact. Then darkness swallowed us, as the plan dunked into the murky depths of the sea, nobody survived. Well nobody except myself.
I don’t know how I arrived to the island, I don’t even know if I was really alive as the exotic landscape that laid before me after the red sands of the coast was too alien to be real. Large trees with deep purple bark crowned with weeping branches formed an almost impenetrable treeline surrounded by tall cyan grass.
It took me a while to recover from my ordeal, crawling around on shaky legs through this enigmatic jungle, attempting to find somewhere to fall asleep. After a nap under the roots of one of this strange trees I realized that even if my environment was strange I was alive and I need to keep it that way.
Finding water was easy, as my ears picked the almost musical whispers of a bubbling brook. Food was a whole different story. I experimented with fruits at first, discovering them palatable enough and after not suffering any side-effects I continued exploring to diversify my resources.
It didn’t take long for me to encounter the first real denizen of the island, a creature with stone-like skin that lumbered through the jungle with a single shining blue eye connected to what seemed a tattoo-like design over its sturdy skin, also radiating light. They eye locked on me and soon the body followed.
I rushed through the island, fearful for my life for the first time in days, remembering the adrenaline rushing to my head when the plane was falling. I never ran as fast as that day, but in my rush I didn’t check my bearings and I dropped down into a pit…
