Thankfully the bottom was a natural pool of water, formed inside a strange ruin, something I might have encountered on my own if I didn’t cross path with the strange being. As I laid floating deep down I saw a bright light and I saw towards it.
A small wall made out of stone, similar to the skin of the creature following me. It had carved letters that suddenly became flooded with crimson light as I approached, beating rhythmically like a heart. I could even feel the water getting warmer.
I couldn’t stop myself and my fingers extended alongside my whole arm to reach towards it. The glyphs traveled through my fingers, moving out of the stone and into my skin. A searing pain shot up my arm as I gasped for air, only flooding my mouth with water.
My distress seemed to agitate the ancient scripture that seemed to beat in my arm and soon a suction-like force drew water towards it, a bubble of air formed around me as the water was absorbed and the heat grew to be untolerable.
Later I would find out that these glyphs could draw moisture from their surroundings and hyper-heat them turning them into plasma. At the moment I didn’t think about the mechanics and could only feel pain, which soon compounded with fear, as the lumbering stone hulk peeked its head over the edge of the pit I fell into.
In fear I raised both hands up and the energy generated by the glyphs discharged into a crimson blast of searing heat that punched a hole through the ground and melted the monster chasing me. The water around me instantly evaporated and if it wasn’t for the bubble of air around me, it might have scalded me alive.
