Opening the book, I immediately was greeted with a headache. Something told me this wasn't a normal headache though, it's almost as if opening the book had begun something, or at least thats what I was feeling. Suddenly the world went black for a split second, followed by a splash of colors. This felt surreal, was something going on? Am I going through some sort of headache or vertigo? It wouldn't really make much sense as I am only a toddler, but I'm in a world where demons coexist with dwarves and elves; anything is possible.
What happened next is what I could only describe as mesmerizing. I saw a singular black line form on the canvas of colors, followed by 2 other lines; one identical to the first one, whilst the second was a shade of grey. After a few seconds my back started radiating in a light burning sensation, but something about the way it felt was off. It felt mirrored to what was going on "in front" of me, 3 lines forming on my back. After what felt like minutes, everything faded along with the headache and my vision started to regulate. What the hell just happened?
I look down at the open book and notice motes of color circle around the book. The first page was blank, but it was when I turned the page that everything began to answer itself.
"...When using an item requiring mana for the first time, the user will get their insignia. Most children below the age of 3 are not able to use a magical item, however when their body is able to utilize the surrounding mana is when they start their transition."
"...Beginner insignias range from 1 to 2 tallies, each signifying the users mana level. These tallies also represent what level of Mana Arts they are able to use at that stage, with black being the most basic to the base color of the mythic rarity indicating that they can use Mana Arts of such level."
"...Tallies can range from 1 to 5 up to age 10, when the user begins to mature and go through a second transition, this time converting the tallies into stars, which will last them into adult hood. The stars have specific colors, ranging from White which is the weakest state to Black; the highest. The star will be surrounded by the tallies once again, only at a much smaller scale signifying the Mana Arts they are able to use, and it's only after this transition the user will know how many Mana Arts they are able to utilize and the rarity of said Mana Art."
"...A user can have up to 5 Mana Arts, most people only aquiring 2 throughout their life. Some users can exceed the 5 Mana Arts treshold, enheriting the title of a Warlock."
Wow, this is a lot to take in. Just how convoluted is this magic system anyways? Stars, tallies, all these besides the tallies I saw just a few minutes ago made any sense. But what did the grey one mean? Is that some sort of indication that I have a special Mana Arts?
"...There are 4 levels of Mana Arts; Basic, Leveled, Ascended, and Mythical. Only 1 in 10,000 users have access to Mythical Mana Arts, which are considered to be at the top. Basic Mana Arts (MA Shortened) has 4 categories; Fire, Water, Terrain, and Wind. Each branches off into a much stronger variant, called Leveled MA. Leveled MA comprises of Magma, Ice, Toxin, and Lightning. The next grouping is Ascended which contains Nature, Sound, Spirit which is exclusive to Elves, and Metal once again exclusive to Dwarves. Finally is Mythical MA, which contain the strongest forms of Magic. Gravity, Creation, Spacial, Dark and Light are the 5 MA that make up Mythical, each with their own set of sub branches. Gravity is only exclusive to Humans however, making it far less common than how rare it already is. The strongest is Spacial, which only has a known 7 users to have ever aquired it. While there are tier differentiations, each used at their maximum potential can out-perform even Mythical. The way you can check what you have affinity for is to simply release your mana. To release mana, one must use willpower and their insignia to cast. Imagine constructing a sphere, forming one with the ambient mana around you."
Interesting, there is a lot more to this than I would have thought. The idea of having a Mythical Mana Arts sounds very useful, but considering how many people actually have one it would be unrealistic to think I would have an affinity towards one. However I'm really intrigued to find out what my affinity is linked to. Raising my tiny hands, I close my eyes and start to focus on the spot on my back that was still tingling, while envisioning a small ball infront of me. It took a few seconds but I could feel my back flare up again, feeling strength drain from me at every passing second. I open my eyes and see a small orb devoid of any color. I try to extrude more mana into it, the mana orb glowing a faint white light, which eventually turned to a Sky Blue. It looked.. unreal, like it was out of some sort of fairytale. I reach out towards it, feeling a shivering sensation spread through my fingers as they laid contact on the orb. I retract my hand back in shock, looking down to see the tiniest shard of what looked like ice cling on to my fingers. Ice huh? Hehe, this just got very fun. But there was something else I failed to pay attention the first time when I looked back up at the orb.
A completely blackened core.
