The Nerd and The Loser

The Complete Explanation

The Complete Explanation

Sep 03, 2022

Shībài zhě was able to find a cab back to the Le Zhao job center. He sat the kid in the back seat where David also sat to keep an eye on him. While they were driving through the city, David finally managed to see the nighttime of Beijing with the brightly colored streets and buildings that he wasn’t able to see last time. David could feel someone watching him. When he turned around, it was Shībài zhě. He was looking at David and smiling.

“Make sure to take in the view kid.” Shībài zhě said as he turned back towards the front. The driver seemed to think he was talking to the kid instead.

Once they reached the job center, Shībài zhě picked the kid up, paid the driver, and went in. Xiaoshi was standing there waiting for Shībài zhě.

“Finally, you’re back. The kid’s here too.” He said as he looked at David.

“You can see me?” David asked him as he also entered the building. There was no light so he couldn’t see properly. It was also like this the last time he was there.

“Yes, I can. But I was too busy fighting Shībài to notice you. Now time for a rematch.”

“Not now Xiaoshi.” Shībài zhě said as he put the kid down on a couch. “This kid needs to be treated.”

“Who is this?” Xiaoshi said as he bent down to examine him.

“Fell off a bike.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure he’s okay by the morning. Master Ping is expecting you two. Up in his office.”

“Thanks.”

Shībài zhě and David made their way up the stairs and into the office where Ping Zhao was sitting behind his desk with a lamp and drinking tea.

“Forgot to pay the electricity bill again.” Shībài zhě said to him as he sat down.

“Yes, it appears we mistakenly tore the electricity bill when it came, and we didn’t check the warnings either.” Ping Zhao answered as he poured himself another cup of tea and offered some to Shībài zhě as well.

“I’m not here to drink tea. I need answers.” Shībài zhě said with a serious look on his face.

“I guess I should tell you.” Ping Zhao answered. Then he took a deep breath and said, “There are people with special abilities in this world, and you two are now also part of those people.”

“Abilities?” David asked as he was intrigued. “Like what?”

“Well, no one knows their extent. These abilities can be anything.” Ping Zhao continued, “They could be astral projections, strength, increased intelligence, even being immortal. The true number and extent of these abilities are known by only one man and even his location is unknown.”

“So, you expect us to believe that there are people out there with superpowers?” Shībài zhě finally spoke. “What a load of bullshit.”

“How come?” Ping Zhao asked Shībài zhě.

“Because if there were, wouldn’t we have met them by now?”

“Well, you have actually.”

“What?” Both Shībài zhě and David said.

“Every single person that can see David has abilities. Not only that but every single person in this job center also has separate abilities.” Ping Zhao said. “And that is why we are the best of the best.”

Both David and Shībài zhě just sat there at this revelation.

“Then also that little kid downstairs?” David finally said.

“Who?” Ping Zhao asked, intrigued.

“We found a kid in this mission. He saw David and is being treated by Xiaoshi right now.”

“I see.”

“But now,” Shībài zhě said as he stood up, “It’s time to go to bed.”

“What?” David said as he was shocked. “Why?”

“You have school remember? And you slept in an alleyway. We need to make sure that your body is safe and sound. And you” He pointed at Ping Zhao, “Find a way to fix us okay? So that we won’t be inconvenienced like this.”

“Are you sure?” Ping Zhao asked.

“Yes.” Shībài zhě answered. “You also want this, right kid?”

“Yeah,” David said as he stood up. “I would like to meet you in my actual body. I think it would be better that we would both be awake at the same time.”

“If you say so.” Ping Zhao said. “You can sleep across the hall. Good night.”

Both Shībài zhě and David said goodnight as they made their way across the hall, where a futon was laying there. Shībài zhě got in, looked at David, and said, “See you in a minute kid.”

“You too,” David answered as Shībài zhě closed his eyes and went to sleep and David lost consciousness.
