“What the hell Line?” Max asked seriously shocked by what he saw. He strolled into the room staring at the mess in Caroline’s room. “What happened to your room?”
“It’s a long story” Caroline slowly followed Max behind and sat at the only available space on the bed.
“I have time” Max gingerly sat on the next open space available in the room, the chair. “I don’t have any other place that I need to go so tell me”
“Remember Ellie?”
“The girl from your dream…I guess…”
“Turns out that she’s actually real!” Caroline was already excited at this point. “Not real like real but like energy, I don’t really know much about it yet but I’m still studying about it”
“Ok you’ve lost me” Max stared confusedly at Caroline. “What do you mean by energy?”
“She’s like energy that has been stored to kind of manifest? I’m really not sure how it works but it was set for a specific time”
“Hmm ok”
“It’s all magic and sorcery though” Caroline shrugged but was up immediately that startled Max. “Watch this” She went ahead to stand in the middle of the circle that was drawn in her room and said some words inaudibly to herself and the appearance of the room changed to how it would have been without the disaster.
Max got up from the chair he was sitting on. “Line… what just happened?”
“It’s a spell” Caroline left the circle. “I made the room look like how it would have been but it’s just an illusion though. If I practice more I could…”
“Caroline, what the hell have you gotten yourself into?” Max was looking more terrified than he had been when he first entered the room.
“Relax, it’s not dangerous, at least not yet…”
“What do you mean not yet, I don’t understand anything.”
Caroline walked into the circle to call off her spell and sat on her bed while urging Max to do same. “I know all this can be hard to take and I had no plans of telling you any of this.” She took a deep breath and waited for Max who slightly nodded before she continued. “Well the magic I have, according to Ellie is very powerful and a lot of people- mages to be exact, have been trying to steal it.”
“But how come you have it” Max asked with a confused expression.
“I kinda inherited it? The original owner of the power is supposed to be my great great-great-grand mother? Who knows?”
Max adjusted uncomfortably in his chair while staring at Caroline. “So is that why it’s dangerous? Because there are people try to take it.”
“Yeah” Caroline shrugged. “The only way to absorb a person’s magic is to kill them.”
“Why am I just knowing this? Does your mom know?” Max asked frantically.
“Max calm down, I can’t just tell anyone. Even telling you could put you in danger that’s why I didn’t want you to know. Anyone close to me is a target and they can get any information about me from you. I was planning to tell you once I learnt a blocking spell that way no one will be able to extract any of your memory.”
Caroline got up and went towards Max who was lost in thoughts. “Ok, what can I do now?” He asked looking up at Caroline.
“I just have to learn the protection and blocking spell as fast as I can” She replied with another shrug. “There’s not much to worry about.”
Max thought for a while in his chair before getting up to look through the things that were placed on both desks. “So would you mind telling me what all these do?”
“Of course” Caroline excitedly got up and was reciting litrally all that Ellie had told her the night before.
“I’ve never seen you this motivated honestly” Max said after a while and continued amidst light chuckles, “But it’s a good thing though. At least you won’t die a sad old person.”
Caroline rolled her eyes, “At least I’m not the one who will die alone because hes too scared to ask for a date. Don’t worry I could learn how to make a love potion that you could…” Caroline didn’t get to finish her sentence before a pillow came flying, hitting her in the face.
“That’s what you get, haha” Max laughed hard from where he stood behind her.
“Alright then” Caroline went ahead to pick up another pillow that started a war.
