The Kettle

First True Battle: Mage vs Spark Villan

First True Battle: Mage vs Spark Villan

Sep 08, 2022

They both went down from the impact of the bullets landing on them. Luckily, it appeared that James was also a Miridas brand fan as neither of them was bleeding to dead. Miridas designer is known to offer not only style but also safety. Their suits may appear normal as any regular suit. Still, their multi-nanocarbon bidding allows the suits to be bulletproof without the bulkiness of Kevlar. Miguel painfully groaned a light spell to blind the intruders as they wore night vision googles. The light in the room would allow the security staff to do their job. His plan kind of worked. The summoned light orb blinded them. Still, the unarmed woman created an emerald crystal out of thin air and shot it telekinetically at it.

When the emerald shard hit the orb, its light went out, putting the room pinch black again. Miguel stood up, ready to summon light again when the woman shoot shard to all conners of the room. The light did not appear as magic went instantly to the fragments before it could generate light. Miguel knew what was happening with his magic; he cursed his luck. Of all the types of spark abilities, one with crystals is one of the worst for a magician. Just as metals are good conductors for electricity, crystals are good conductors/batteries for magic. The woman may not know that he was using magic. Still, clearly, the woman understood her spark to create and manipulate the emerald shards' properties.

She did not seem like a novice with her spark, meaning she had tested the limits among which the crystal shard could absorb energy. The emerald woman pointed at a young boy on the floor covered by two bodyguards. From what he understood, he got that she told the other two men she would deal with him and take the boy.  The emerald women summon five emerald shards and shoot them at him.

“Oidul  lartibr oeduc Anlu, On esab,” Miguel screamed as he used his arms to shield his face.

He really hoped his shield spell would work. It was an expensive spell, but it was the first defense spell that came to his mind. He also thought that may be his spell was for energy attacks, not physicals. He now panics if the shards could be stopped by the magic shield. He covered his face just in case, as his suit should be stab proof.
Three of the shards were stopped, but they absorbed part of the energy barrier allowing the other two to pierce him. On landed on his right shoulder and one of his left forearms. It hurt a lot; lucky the suit had protected him enough; they only pierced shallowly. He felt dizzy. He used the wrong spell to defend himself. It had been a while since he fought other powered individuals. He thought he needed to deal with this woman immediately. He scrambled on his head what would put this woman down.

“Orianoisli: Ranaxa atole ogue lauvid eteine, rolo ainer opme-”

Miguel tried spell cast as fast as he could summon a fake fire ball that would incapacitate the woman without torching the entire place. If the fireball hit her, it would feel like she was really burning up alive, but it would all be in her mind.  The ball appeared in his hand, then he launched it at her.

The emerald women created an emerald barrier that blocked the fireball. The men had grabbed the child and were heading to the exit. Miguel head was throbbing, the problem with illusionary magic that may cost less magic to make, but take a toll on your head as headaches. The woman stepped out of her barrier and started summoning shards and started sharp shooting him with them. Miguel jumped behind a column just as he expected. It appeared the shard speed went though the thick marbles column. He expected to be dead as soon the woman targeted him now that he was out of magic juice and she knew where exactly he was. Except, when he moved behind the column, the emerald woman stopped shooting at him.

He heard her yelling at the others that they had to do more now as she lost their assailant. Miguel did not know why she said that as she saw him jump behind the column, he was at. Then it clicked on his head; he still had his ignore me spell, meaning the moment she lost eye contact, she forgot where he was. Miguel was essentially invisible now.

He felt drained but called on his animation spell to create more snakes from his arms. The snakes silently took down the last two remaining men. The snakes could not hold the woman as she made more emerald shards and expertly killed them. From the ease with which she moved around and killed the snakes, this woman must have had some military experience.  She grabbed the boy and walked out.  He tried to follow her, but he lost his balance. Before he could fall, Daniel was holding him in place.

“Great, now you decide to show up!”

“Hey! I have never been one to fight. Remember, you were the superhero, not me,” Daniel responded as he struggled to keep Miguel heavy weight with his more petite body.

“Also, I was not wearing one of those suits. If I intervened and got shot, that would have been that for me. I did help by casting ignore me spell and called the police. Hear that-” Daniel said as they could hear a bunch of sirens near the vicinity.

“I clarify in the call that the assault involved a murderous spark. I am sure the police brought the biggest guns.”

The lights went back on, and James ran towards them, checking Miguel's injuries. He asked his bodyguard to help him towards the window. They saw how a black ban was trying to flee. It got surrounded by three SWAT armored bans and five police cars. The emerald woman steps out to deal with the men. The SWAT teams aligned formations over their bullhorn, ordering them to give up. The emerald woman responded by summoning shards which she began launching at the SWAT bans and police men. They all opened fire on her, but she built an emerald barrier that seemed solid enough to protect her. The SWAT teams tried to rush her to try to subdue her. It did not go well. Those who were able to dodge her projectile shards wanted to grab her. She created an emerald knife that she held with her left hand and shot shards with the other. The emerald woman was holding really well against the SWAT and the police. She seems to not be struggling in handling all these men. She would pirouette round the men that tried to grab her. She would stab one man, avoid getting shot by another, then hit the third one with an emerald shard. The woman took less than five minutes to take down Paris's finest men. Miguel knew this woman had to be some sort of mercenary or trained assassin to be that good. Even among sparks with dangerous abilities, it would take a lot of practice to wield them to that level of mastery. The emerald woman got in the ban and banished into the city.

As they sat at the gala waiting for the police to clear the area. Miguel wondered if that little boy would be fine. The ease that the emerald woman beat the Paris SWATs meant that France may not have prepared for spark criminality. He saw twice how France was not ready to handle sparks, which were not as dangerous as this woman. This is one of the problems of the sparks going public before the revelation their crimes were more discreet. He felt he would need to intervene with spark crimes until France got structured to handle spark matters.  He did not want to be a superhero; it had gone quite awful last time, but he knew he had to act now, at least for a while. Miguel was cleared to leave by a paramedic after patching him and reminding him to go to a hospital for sutures after refusing to go in the ambulance.

He walked to one of the tiny emerald shards that stabbed him and picked it up. Miguel could use a psychometric spell with it to track down the emerald woman. He would have to look up his books about it as he did not know any tracking spells by memory. As he was about to pocket it, a woman in a lab coat yelled at him to give it to her.
“Sir, please do not touch the shards. Its police evidence also Spark residues could cause health concerns.”
The woman explained as she took the shard gloved, then moved into a box with the radioactive symbol.

“Yes, I am sorry. Here, you go.”

Miguel was confused as to how that forensic woman saw him. He thought his ignore me spell was active, but he was no longer sure. May be the effect was waning already, but he still felt the aura around him.
