Eventually they got to the elementary school. If Oliver could compare it to anything then it would be a refurbished prison. Bars crossed the windows so that they wouldn’t open as well as a six foot chain-linked fence around the building. The gate however was open, the vice principal standing by it while a few teachers were around in the front. Oliver still wasn’t sure if this was the right choice for his little sister but on seeing the excitement in her eyes he pushed back his fear. He turned her to him as he kneeled down before her.
“You remember my number, right?” Eli nodded.
“Yep!”
“And what do you do if they ask for our parents?”
“Say they are at work!” She beamed. Oliver stared at her for another moment before sighing and nodding. He hugged her tightly to the point she pretended to be suffocating to get her brother to laugh. He did and let go, looking at her.
“Be careful I’ll pick you up after school okay?” Eli nodded before looking at one of the teachers and walking to them although she turned around to Oliver and waved.
“Bye! Love you brother!” Oliver waved back, staying where he was for a bit longer. When Eli was out of his sight Oliver then got up brushing himself off. He then turned away and headed to the highschool which was a few more blocks away. On his way he put on his headphones to block the noise. With Eli he couldn’t hear everyone as much but without her the constant waves of people's words and thoughts flooded his mind. It was to the point that sometimes he felt as though he was drowning in a sea of noise. He found himself at the gate of the school in a matter of minutes. Sighing quietly he went in and headed to his locker. Ignoring the graffiti and demeaning photos of him he opened the locker and switched his books. Just as he closed it on the other side was a girl with a blindfold over her eyes as she had light brown hair and freckles dusting her cheeks
“You didn’t respond to my texts..”
“Oh sorry… never my intention to ignore you Cecila.” She nodded her head in a way like she had rolled her eyes.
“It’s fine, just don’t ignore me again. Anyways~ I was thinking of hanging with the girls at lunch. You okay being on your own?” Oliver nodded before realizing and replying.
“Yeah that's fine” Cecilia smiled slightly before grabbing his hand and dragging him to their first class. If he was being honest he wasn’t really that fine with it. Usually when Cecila wasn’t there was when the bullying got worse. Their first class was with Ms. Regan the English and homeroom teacher. To put it simply she hated kids but specifically exousía. Oftentimes she’d call them monsters or worse. No one really knew why but she hated Oliver the most saying his power was dangerous and demonic. It was mostly because of her, that Oliver became the school's outcast.
“Good morning!” Came her sickeningly cheerful reply. It took a rather great amount of self control to keep Oliver from gagging. When Oliver and Cecilia passed she went quite staring daggers at them or at least that’s how it felt to Oliver (the reproachful words she thought didn’t help). Cecilia however didn’t seem affected. The class inside had grown quiet along with Ms. Regan. Cecilia went to her designated table with the other exousía. Oliver however went to a table separated even from them as it was in the corner in the far back. The bell soon rang and Ms. Regan closed the door going to the front of the class. She began with her usual announcement, however what seemed to peak everyone's interest was the mention that a new student would be joining them. Oliver's mind was flooded with incessant thoughts and quiet murmuring on the subject. He was surprised he hadn’t gone completely crazy yet. Ms. Regan held up her hand in a gesture for silence as the class quieted down at least the voices did.
