Amazing the power that the dead hold over the living. They can inspire, they can constrain. They can have as many effects as any living person can.
Makes me think of the one-way relationship an author and reader (or celebrity and fan) have -- or at least had in the pre-internet era. Still a valid, real relationship, but of such a different quality than an interpersonal relationship. When someone we know dies, how great the pain caused by that slip from one category to the other. From two dimensions, to one.
