"Good footwork Noah, but be more aware your reaction speed is still a little bit slower than Lucy's." my dad states, walking up to us with 2 glasses of water. "Lucy your swings are way too wide and predictable, don't let him get the opening on your blind spots."
Taking a glass from out of his hand, I take a glance at Lucy and notice just how red her face is, sweat streaming down her small face. We are almost 6 and have been training for the past few years together after our first time seeing eachother as our parents thought it would be a great idea to make us sparring buddies. It's been fun and rewarding learning with someone the same age as me but we both have our clear advantages over another. While I excel in close quarters combat, she is a much better mage, having a larger arsenal and more destructive power than I could even dream. That's the differences between humans and demons; while humans are weaker we have a stronger natural affinity to mana, hence the larger pool of mana for us to draw from, while demons are stronger in almost every other aspect but contain a much smaller pool of mana.
"Dad, can me and Lucy go for a walk? I feel trapped in here." I've been meaning to go for a walk and take a look around the neighborhood but never had the chance to, maybe if I bring Lucy along he will let me go out since we are done with training. "Besides, we've finished training for the day."
My father looks at me and lets out a sigh. "Your mother will kill me Noah, but just because you've been training hard I'll take the blame for you. Lucy, keep an eye on him will you?" Lucy looks up to both of us and nods, finishing the rest of her water. "You got it Mr. Cyprus, and thank you again for the hospitality."
With a gentle smile creeping up on his face, he nods back. "Don't mention it kiddo, someone needs to keep this kid entertained anyways." I look at him with a stern look, handing him back the glass and walking away. "Don't die Dad, I need to get you back for that comment."
As we walk towards the path, Lucy walks ahead of me and turns around, her pink hair fluttering in the wind. "Say Noah, where are we going? I'm pretty sure you've never actually explored the village before." she says, looking at me with a questioning yet curious gaze.
"I dunno, I was hoping you could take the lead and show me around." I respond back, returning her gaze with a snarky grin. "I did beat you in training after all."
She turns around and exhales in irritation, speeding up. "Oh very funny, just wait until we do mana arts training again."
Jogging up to catch up to her, she leads us towards the right, towards the way to the town. We walk for a little while with her pointing out the houses and who they belong to. She even got a few hi and hello's from the other villagers working on the crop fields, leaving me to introduce myself to almost everyone. While my parents are good friends with a majority of the villagers, they haven't actually met me due to how busy the towns been. We were in an economic decline so all the adults were working extra hard, my parents included.
As the orange sunset began to creep in, we saw a group of children around our age just ahead of us on the trail. Lucy had thought about ignoring them and leading us back to my house until we heard a pained moan from the group. Curious, we both looked at eachother and decided it would be a good idea to check it out in case someone had gotten hurt. As we were walking up to the group however, the group was getting louder and I realized there was more that was happening.
"You stupid elf, go back to where you came from." The larger boy of the group shouted. "Don't come back here again or we will hurt you more."
"Yeah, don't make us rip out your hair you ugly witch." added on another one of the boys, this one more frail looking. He walked closer to the elf and shoved his foot towards them, causing them to stumble back.
"P-Please.. I-I just w-wanted to get a f-flower for my m-mom.." whimpered the person on the floor, face unrecognizable from the mud and bruises that covered their face.
Lucy walks up ahead of me, stomping the dirt below. "HEY LEAVE THEM ALONE!" she screamed, catching all of their attention.
The big one glanced at his lackeys and looked back at Lucy with a wide toothed grin. "What are you gonna do, girl? Have your guy friend fight for you?"
I walked up besides her and relaxed my hands. "She doesn't need me to, she's strong enough to beat all of your asses."
Before the boy had a chance to speak, Lucy ran towards him and delivered a mean right hook, causing the boy to stumble and weep in pain. In utter shock, I slowly crept up towards the group as she stood ontop of him, eyeing him down hard.
"That's what I'll do, jerk. Leave her alone." she said calmly, looking around to the rest of the 3 boys that surrounded the elf. Taking it as a clear warning, the 3 boys tried their hardest to carry the bigger one and ran, cursing us with threats as they were backing away.
We both glanced at the elf on the ground, their face hidden behind their hands. We walked up towards them and I extended my hand, to which they accepted immediately. "Thank you.." they said, removing the hands that covered their face revealing what looked to me like a girl the same age as us. Tears and bruises covered her face as she struggled to get up, causing Lucy to spring into action and helped her get her footing She looked like she was in terrible shape. Taking a better look at her she was definitely apepared to be an elf, with dark blue running down her back and behind her pointed ears.
"I'm R-Robin.. and t-thank you again f-for helping fend of t-those bullies.." she whimpered before passing out.
