“Nadezhda Olegovna,” the group leader addressed to a middle-aged woman sitting at the table. “We banished those creatures from the street.”
“There were more than one? And where are they now?” asked the woman.
“We found two of them. Probably they are back in their own world.”
“Probably?” Nadezhda Olegovna frowned.
“I don't know. They ran away two fast.” answered group leader.
“What those creatures were?”
“I don't know.”
“Is there anything you know?”
“I'm not a creature expert.” the leader said. “We took them away from the city. That's our job. You'd better ask him for details since those creatures were following him.”
The woman looked at Pavel and asked:
“Who is that?”
“Just a guy who doesn't even know about magic.” continued the leader. “He seems not to belong to a clan. And the creatures were chasing him anyway. You'd better sort out this weird situation. And about us... we're done here.”
“What?” Nadezhda Olegovna looked surprised. “What do you mean? He's clearly a magician. Don't you see that!?”
But all three men were already out. They seemed to be in such a hurry that almost ran away.
Nadezhda Olegovna finally paid attention to Pavel properly.
“Take a sit and tell me everything had happened,” ordered she.
And Pavel did as he was said.
Nadezhda Olegovna listened him carefully and asked a couple of clarifying questions.
Then Pavel was sipping tea she had brought him kindly. Nadezhda Olegovna was quiet for some time also drinking her tea.
“You hadn't been surprised when we had been talking about magic,” said Nadezhda Olegovna finally. “And you also wasn't arguing about it with us”.
That was true. And actually Pavel had no reason to be surprised or doubt. Not after those creatures had shown up in the fog and he found himself in unfamiliar place instantly. There were people appearing from nowhere also. So, either it was magic or he just lost his mind. Pavel preferred magic.
But an option with him went crazy wasn't that bad also. Because if Pavel gets into a madhouse he wouldn't has to care about money and place for living for some time. Pavel actually didn't figure out yet what he was going to do if he couldn't get a scholarship in the college. The madhouse was a kind of simple decision. It still had it's shortcomings also. For instance, no one was going to send him packages since Pavel had no family. So let it be some magic for a while.
“I saw it with my eyes,” Pavel shrugged.
“You remind me that genius who taught himself the way of being magician. He would also be capable to recognize the creatures because he is a real expert unlike those slobs working here. It's a pity he's already in the Skopin clan. Their head wouldn't miss such a talent.”
Nadezhda Olegovna was silent for a minute. Then she continued.
“Actually your features look familiar. Are you sure you are not related to some magical family?”
When Pavel told her that he actually had grown up in the orphanage Nadezhda Olegovna suddenly brightened.
“So you might be related to some clan,” she said. “We can check it out right now.”
Nadezhda Olegovna left the room and came back with a crystal ball. She put it on the table and said. “This of the Sphere of Lost and Found. Just touch it with your hand. Don't worry it's completely safe. If you have relatives among magicians it will show that.”
Actually Pavel didn't quite understand the logic of this woman. But he was really curious about what this sphere could show. And he saw nothing special when he touched it and put his hand off.
Though it definitely was showing something to Nadezhda Olegovna. The woman stared at the sphere for a minute. Then she said. “I didn't remember the Skopin clan accidentally. It was my intuition working much better than mind as usually. Your father's name Mikhail Skopin.”
“You were talking about some genius person.” remembered Pavel.
“No, it's not him. Mikhail Skopin was a clan member from the time he was born. He was quite talented in magic also. Like all Skopins. Well, almost all. As far as I know he was on good terms with the head of the clan. I met your father a couple of times on business but I had never known him well.” Nadezhda Olegovna sighed. “I'm sorry that I have to tell you that but your father died. And it happened a lot of time ago. Perhaps that's the reason you got to an orphanage. As I understand this situation the didn't know about you because that's not how the clan do. If they knew they would have taken care of you.”
They both were silent for a while.
Pavel was really frustrated. First he was told his father's name. Then he knew his father died a long time ago. But it could mean that the father hadn't abandoned him.
Also Pavel didn't know anything for sure yet. Well, except for the fact that his patronymic wasn't correct. It actually was Mikhailovich. And he shouldn't jump to conclusions.
Who knows perhaps the next thing he was going to find out that the woman was mistaken and that's not his father.
“OK, now I should contact your closest relative.” said Nadezhda Olegovna. “Your father had a younger brother. For now he's a really powerful man. His name is Sergey Skopin and he's a personal assistant of the Great Enchanter. Which makes him the second magician in the whole world. He is also a very rich person. That's not surprising because the head of the Skopin clan lets him manage all property and money the clan has. So you are lucky to be his nephew. And the most important thing is that the clan should investigate all accidents happened with its members. So they would deal with those creatures that had followed you. It's not my problem any more.”
The woman smiled happily and left the room probably to contact this man.
Pavel wasn't sure what he should do with all that information. The description this man reminded Pavel of all those officials who were deceiving him. Is being a nephew of such a person a good thing or not?
Pavel looked in the direction Nadezhda Olegovna had left. Did she found his relatives only to avoid the investigation all those stuff with the creatures? Are they all working like that here?
