Liam
After I got home from school, mom was already in her room. I went straight there, eager to know about her prospects and how the day was. Our rooms are adjacent at the guest wing and I love that, it feels less weird now that we're not living in a house of our own anymore.
Not that I want to leave it here. Hell no! I love not having to cook - it's never been my forte, to be honest - and I'm sure neither does she. Plus, there are video games here.
I asked how her interviews had gone and she told me they went fine, though some of her potential employers asked her why she didn't go to college.
Huh, I'm sensing a theme here. But one way or another, she'd hear from them in a couple of days. So, now we wait.
I do hope she gets something. Even though we're refugees, there's no such thing as free meals. And the bill will come eventually. I'm old enough to know that by now.
It's fine. We're not a charity case. We can pull our own weight, as long as we're given the opportunity to do so.
I continue talking to my mom inside her room when we hear a knock at the door. I went to see who it was immediately, while mom changed in the bathroom. All rooms are suites, which is nice. Honestly, I thought I'd have to share a bathroom with strangers, so I'm actually very relieved.
"Good afternoon, Liam. I hope everything went well at your new school today." - Beta Gutierrez smiled politely at me as he said that.
"Hi, Beta. Yes, it went fine. How nice of you to ask." - I replied, enthusiastically.
"Good. The Alpha wants to speak to you at his office. And your mom too." - He dropped the bomb, calmly.
I'm gagged. I didn't think he'd want to see us this soon.
"Of course, Beta. My mom and I will come downstairs shortly." - I replied, smiling nervously.
"Perfect. Have a good afternoon." - He said and walked away.
Mom got out of the bathroom and stared at me with a frightened gaze.
"What do you think he wants with us?" - I asked her, a bit scared.
She looked pale, a blank expression on her face. But I can smell her fear, even when she refused to show it on her face.
"I don't know, but we better not keep the Alpha waiting for us." - She said and motions me to leave the room.
We get downstairs, turned a corridor and went to the Alpha's office. The door was open and he's waiting for us alone.
He is sat behind his desk. A nice comfortable office with very little extravagance. There're chairs ready for us to seat. He stood up and closed the door behind us.
"Good afternoon, William. Mrs. Forsythe." - He greeted us with a polite tone. We bowed our heads, of course, and greeted him back.
"I called you here today just so I can officially welcome you both to our pack and have an open and honest conversation about what you can expect from us here." - He started in a somber tone. My mom and I nodded along.
"First of all, I'm gonna be honest with you, this was not an easy sell for me. Not at all. At first, I was fine with it. You know, I heard your case and thought it was appalling that you even got beaten in the first place for something that wasn't your fault." - He explained, looking very serious and stern.
"But when I heard my Beta say your last name, William, I won't lie. I said no." - He looked me deep in the eyes as he said that. I gulped at the intimidating gaze. Mom is quietly listening in, but clearly as uncomfortable as I am.
"He insisted, he really pleaded your case well. But I rebuked, I'm not having a Forsythe on my pack. Are you kidding me?" - He said the last part in a joking tone, though I'm pretty sure he's not joking.
"I even heard your mom said we should do this because we 'owed you' for killing your father." - He did the air quote, me and mom gasped in shock at his words.
"If that's the case then who owes me for my family? Please tell me, so I can collect from them!" - He ranted, sounding pissed off.
I'm thinking this is one of those situations where it's best if you let the person speak before you can interject.
"Even when my Beta showed me the pictures you took of him at the hospital, I still said no. However, that was genius of you, Mrs. Forsythe. I gotta hand it to you. A picture does tell a thousand words." - He smirked at my mom.
"I was desperate. I'm sorry if I've offended you." - She told him with a remorseful tone.
"You didn't! Not at all. I'm a father, so I can appreciate a mom seeking her son's survival. That really struck a chord with me." - He was quick to elaborate, not letting my mom feel bad.
On the contrary, he's speaking as if in awe of her, admiring her tenacity.
"Anyway, still was a no for me. My eldest son, you know, who's just a little younger than you, was really taken aback by your story." - He said, pensive.
"All my family saw the pictures and they tried to persuade me. My Beta, my mate, my sons. Your story touched their hearts. And it really moved me, especially Georgie who all but openly rebelled against me for your sake." - He reported, slightly peeved.
"Anyway, I know there's been some bad blood between your family and mine. I also know you're innocent in all this. Just like I was when my dad, my whole family died." - He continued, making me feel sorry for him, though the story is well known.
Alpha Stonehold looks emotional, his eyes are misty at the memory.
"But my point with all this is: you have a chance here to start something new, fresh. Make your own way in our pack. And as long as you and your mother follow our laws, you have nothing to fear from me." - He stated in a serene tone.
I breathed out a sigh of relief. Mom and I both did.
"In fact, I sent my own son today to your old pack just to smooth things over with your former Alpha." - He told us and we gasped in surprise.
"You did?" - I practically yelled, gobsmacked.
Mom was wide eyed in shock.
"Yes, I did. You shouldn't have to hide from them like some sort of criminal. You did nothing wrong, William! You're the victim here! If anyone should be afraid is the son of their Alpha. Not you! If this happened in my pack, I'd disown my own son and strip him from any claim as Alpha." - He replied, sounding nervous though confident.
I'm legitimately gagging at this.
"Anyway, that's what I wanted you to know. Regardless of what was done, YOU William Jackson Forsythe is innocent and shouldn't pay for other people's baggage." - He stated very incisively.
"Thank you, sir. It means a lot to me that you acknowledged that." - I said with a relieved expression. Mom is feeling the same.
"You're welcomed. Before I let you go, I wanted to ask you something..." - He said with a soft expression.
Mom looked at me and I am intrigued.
"I don't know if you'd be interested. And you can totally say no. It's fine, it's not gonna affect your presence here. My decision is final." - He started, trying to put me in a position that I can decline whatever this is.
"Anyway, my youngest son doesn't have a driver's license yet. So, I wonder if you'd be interested in driving him on the weekends. I mean, I'll pay for it, of course. I don't know if it's something you're okay with--"
"I'll do it!" - I interrupted him, excitedly.
"Are you sure? Because you can say no, it's fine. It's the weekend, if you have any plans..."
"Positive, Alpha. I'll take the job, gladly. I don't have any weekend plans. Thank you for the opportunity." - I said, grinning enthusiastically.
"Great. Leave me your number that I'll pass it over to my son later. I promise you'll be well compensated." - He said, causing a huge smile to form on my lips.
"Thank you, Alpha Stonehold." - I grinned at him.
"You're most welcomed. You are both free to go. Mrs. Forsythe, you start next Monday at our downtown office." - He replied and it's my mom's turn to smile wide.
"Thank you, Alpha!" - She spoke, statically happy.
"Don't mention it." - He winked at her.
We left his office feeling so happy that I can't hardly believe this is my luck. I have a room, wonderful meals, my mom has a job and now even I do...
Granted, it's only on weekends. But it's better than nothing. It's pretty amazing!
My mom and I go get ready for dinner.
Some time later, we get downstairs for a healthy dose of amazing cooking.
"I can't believe I'll finally have a job with benefits." - Mom commented as she ate. She looked radiantly happy.
"I can't believe I found a way to earn some money. I do need a laptop." - I commented, to which mom grimaced.
"If I could, I'd buy one for you tomorrow." - She told me with a saddened tone.
"It's fine, mom. I can wait for us to get some money. The school has computers available for the students to use. It's not a big deal." - I downplayed it. She smiled weakly at me.
I don't want her to feel bad for not giving me things. That's not what this is about. She gives me love and that's the only thing I need.
"I just can't believe Alpha Stonehold sent his own son on a diplomatic mission for you. That's so honorable of him." - Mom commented, her eyes are glistening with joy.
"I know, right? Someone did say today at school that there was a student on a mission. It just never occurred to me that the mission was about me. Never in a million years I would've thought..." - I'm baffled at this turn of events.
I went to bed happy tonight.
Finally, my life has taken a turn for the best. If only I had a mate to share it with. Though if that Justin is available, I'd totally welcome him in my bed.😏
If it was allowed, I mean. This isn't a hotel, it's a family place as I'm told.
After breakfast the next morning, I take my bag and march to catch the bus. There are a lot of kids who live inside the compound that goes to my high school, it turns out.
Which is a good thing, this way I don't have to walk all the way to the entrance gate to catch the bus. It's like a mile away from the pack house.
I'm smiling my way to school, thinking about my good fortune so far. But I'm also thinking about the fact that Jeb now knows where I am.
I don't wanna play pessimist, but what if he's not done with me? What if he follows me here? Please, for the love of Goddess, let this be the end of my story with him.
I've suffered enough.
Since I have the first few periods free, I go straight to the library to use the computer. I enjoy my time surfing the web on a screen that's bigger than my phone.
After a few hours, I log out and look for my first class of the day. While walking, I noticed a delightful scent coming from one of the classrooms.
The closer I get to them, the better the scent gets. Instinctively, I take big inhales of the marvelous smell.
Until it hits me.
Like a wave crashing onto rocks, a millennial power takes over my whole body, causing my wolf to go haywire inside my chest.
As it does, my eyes glow brighter than they ever shone before. I stand at the edge of the classroom, not near enough to see or be seen, but certainly to listen.
"George, you're eyes are glowing!" - Junior shouted to his best friend, puzzled as he tries to make sense of what's happening.
George looks around the room to see the source of the glowing eyes, but he doesn't find it anywhere inside.
"Oh my Goddess! Your father was right! Your mate is here!" - Mia acknowledged, sounding as baffled as the rest of the students. But how did his dad know about him finding his mate today? I had no idea until a minute ago. I mean, damn! That's some Alpha!
I try to move away from this, but I can't. My wolf won't let me. It needs to scent its...
"MATE!" - A deep, husky sound escapes my lips as a tall, strong, gorgeous boy stands in front of me, having just left the classroom.
His beautiful eyes are shining their brightest at me. He takes one big breath and...
"MATE!" - His voice is husk, penetrating. He looks deep into my eyes, glowing like never before.
The teacher entered and asked us to come in. Class is about to start. And so, I do. So does him.
I take my seat, blushing from all the attention the entire class is giving to me now. Every single student is staring at me, at us.
I can barely focus on anything the teacher is explaining, but I tried my best.
At the end of the class, the boy known as George approached me.
"What's your name?" - He asked, looking intrigued.
"Don't." - I tried to stop him, feeling embarrassed.
"I need to know your name! You're my mate!" - He insisted, gobsmacked at my reaction.
"I REJECT YOU AS MATE!"
I declared and left the classroom, visibly distraught. Though not nearly as the boy who I just abandoned, looking devastated.
A|N: BOOM, bitch!
Fun fact: I loved this show and when this song was sang, I completely fell in love with it.
I'm so drawn to these types of songs. And it fits perfectly with this chapter as if it was written for it.
Next episode comes tomorrow and I warn you: be prepared! Things are not looking well for George.
Love,
Léo.
