The Le Zhao job center was known for attracting a certain
type of clients. Usually people of a very small status. They believed it to be
just like any other private detective agency. To find lost items or to spy on
someone. But recently, that changed. The reason? The Chinese
multimillionaire Chang-Lin had received a large number of death threats his
entire life but he never paid any attention to them as most would probably be
from people who couldn’t do anything that they wrote. That was until someone
finally attempted to. The attempt was fortunately stopped by a group of people
hired by Chang Lin from a job center known as the Le Zhao job center. The
people hired were so effective that not only did they save his life, but also
uncover who was behind the plot and stop him as well. Due to their recent
success, the Le Zhao job center now started receiving jobs from everyone for
everything and since the majority of the team was busy with press conferences
organized by Chang Lin, only three members were left, with two new members, one
of which no one has seen but has been successful in every one of his jobs.
“Now is not the time to slack off Mr. zhě,” David said to Shībài zhě as he dropped down on the couch. “We still have two more jobs to do today.”
“Quiet down kid.” Shībài zhě said annoyed by the fact that he couldn’t get rid of David. “Let me take a nap. You can ask Chloe for help, she’s free.”
“Yes. I can help.” Chloe said, jumping up and down, and looking at David with excited eyes.
“No.” David said, “Even though you are a part of this job center your only job right now is information gathering.”
Chloe’s face dropped and she looked down disappointed. She had been a part of the job center for two weeks now, but she still wasn’t allowed for any of the big jobs other than sneaking ones.
“The same can be said about you too kid.” Shībài zhě chimed in from the couch. “You don’t have a physical body so all you can do is information gathering as well.”
“That’s why I have to work two times as hard as the rest of you. So that I can prove myself.” David answered.
“She’s also trying to do the same thing.” Shībài zhě said back while pointing at Chloe with his eyes for David to see.
“Fine.” David finally said groaning as he admitted defeat. “Come on Chloe. Let’s do some research, then bother Mr. Zhě to take us outside. He can even treat you to some ice cream.”
“YAY!” Chloe shouted with excitement and jumped up and down. “What’s the job.”
David and Chloe spent the next 2 hours, researching the jobs, playing around, and making fun of Shībài zhě while he slept. David and Shībài zhě had managed to learn a bit more about their abilities in the last two weeks. The first was that there was a condition for switching places. If one of them sleeps to switch places, they will switch without any time dilation and the other person will wake up at the same time. But if he doesn’t want to switch places, he can go to sleep without swapping. However, if they sleep without a goal, they will swap places. Both David and Shībài zhě had been using this method to catch up on some sleep.
After 2 hours, they both woke Shībài zhě up, who was the least bit enthusiastic about waking up.
“What?” Shībài zhě said, very annoyed.
“We figured out who sent the menacing letter,” David explained to Shībài zhě. “And we found the location of the evidence required for the closing of the murder mystery.”
“Fine.” Shībài zhě said as he got up. “Let’s go.”
“Ok.” Both David and Chloe said.
“Not you.” Shībài zhě said to Chloe, who seemed to be disheartened.
“No, she is coming,” David answered back.
“These are my jobs, and I am the one who chooses who else goes with me.”
“Not really. You see, each of these jobs has been assigned to one person. David of the Le Zhao job center i.e., me. So I’m the one who gets to decide who gets to go with me.”
The most popular member of the job center was none other than David. Some believe that he is a ghost who seeks to help people even after his death. Others think that he is a secret United States agent who has been hired by the Le Zhao job center and can’t be seen. While others think that he does not exists. David’s popularity spiked because every single job that he was a part of was a success, leading to more people asking him to do their job.
“Fine.” Shībài zhě said, caving in. “But you’re in charge of keeping an eye on her. Got it?”
“Yes sir,” David answered. “You heard him, Chloe. Let’s go on your first job.”
Chloe had never been happier. She was going on an outing with two of her favorite people. The research that David and Chloe had put into the two cases was both correct. They gave the address of the threatener to the police and went to collect the evidence at what they believed to be the apartment of the murderer.
“Is this the place?” Shībài zhě asked David as they reached the location. They were climbing up the stairs to the room of the murderer.
“Positive,” David answered as Chloe was busy eating ice cream. “We cross-checked the time of the murder with security camera footage of the area and we were able to get a positive id on the murderer.”
“Did the police hire us for this one?”
“No. It was the family of one of the victims. They said that the police were taking too long with the investigation, and she needed comfort.”
“Honestly, we aren’t the police and yet we do their jobs. I can’t wait for retirement. Here we are.” Shībài zhě said when they reached the door. He knocked on the door twice. A voice from inside replied.
“Who is it?”
“Pizza delivery sir.” Shībài zhě answered him.
“I didn’t order any.”
“But this is the location I received.”
“Alright Alright.” The man answered.
He could be heard making his way to the door and stopping right behind him. Everything was silent for a while. And then Shībài zhě suddenly got back, picked up Chloe, and got to the side. Bullets were shot through the door by a rapid-fire gun. David just stood there as the bullets went through him. The firing finally stopped, and it was followed by a long silence. The door opened, and a figure came through it. It was the murderer. He had an assault rifle in his hand. He was looking everywhere for the dead body but couldn’t find it. Then all of a sudden, Shībài zhě came out of his hiding spot, disarmed the man, and dropped him to the ground. As he moved in to knock him out, someone else came out of the room, with a gun aimed at Shībài zhě. Before he could react, the man was hit with ice cream, followed by Chloe, who jumped to his face and kicked him with such force that the man was blown back into the room. Shībài zhě looked at Chloe who managed to land back on her feet and the man was unconscious.
“Thanks, kid.” Shībài zhě said as he knocked out the person underneath him. “I’ll buy you new ice cream on our way back.”
Chloe looked up at him with anticipation and happiness on her face.
“Take a look inside kid.” Shībài zhě said to David. “We should avoid other situations like this.”
The mission was successful. The name of the Le Zhao job center was popularized once more and especially when they learned that it was the mysterious David who was the main person in the job. After the briefings and dodging the interviewers, the three of them sat down at Longtan lake view park, where they sat down and were eating ice cream, except for David.
“This ice cream is really good you know.” Shībài zhě said as he licked the ice cream. “Want some.”
“Screw you. And screw your Karma,” David answered as he looked away from him.
“I want to eat ice cream with you David,” Chloe said. “Can I?”
“Don’t worry Chloe,” David answered. “Once I finish high school, I’ll come to China for my college and become a proper member of the Le Zhao job center.”
“But first things first.” Shībài zhě interrupted. “Tomorrow’s the fight. You ok?”
“Yeah. I am.” David answered. “I’m excited. This will be the start of my new life in New York. And I finally get to have my revenge.”
Instead of nervousness, Shībài zhě saw the excitement on David’s face.
“I thought you didn’t like Karma.” Shībài zhě said.
“Not unless it works in my favor,” David said with a grin. “Because in that case, I love Karma.”
