"If you want, she can train with Noah and Lucy. Ron seems to be loving it so I don't think he would mind adding one more to the group," my mother states, looking at my father with a curious grin.
Before my father could answer, Tonan, Robin's father, spoke up.
"That sounds like a wonderful idea! As long as it won't be a hassle, we will pay you as well for your services."
"I dunno," he replies, getting up to stretch his limbs. After his stretch, he takes a glance at us and locks eye contact with me and smiles like a kid who got given the gift he's been asking for all year. "What d'ya say, kiddo?"
I turn to Robin to see her beaming smile, with Lucy practically jumping from excitement just besides her. Having someone else might be a really good idea, a median for both me and Lucy since we are always sparring eachother. Having someone else would not only give us better training results, but will make us stronger in the process.
I turn back towards my father and give him a smile.
"Are you kidding me? Let's do it!"
"Sylas, I'm sorry.."
No not this again, Reyna, please wait.
"You are worthless Sylas, you've never actually cared.."
That isn't true, Reyna!
"Now you'll be forced to watch an innocent world burn and crumble away, like that butterfly you let burn itself alive."
That wasn't my fault, I had no control over that.
The voice came closer and had a very faint image. It was what seemed like a pale woman with pitch black hair and piercing red eyes, the iris glowing a deep orange.
"Show us that resentment you harbor deep within you. Show the world your true feelings, Noah."
The woman smiled and extended a hand, the air growing frigid and intensely warm at the same time.
"Noah?"
I slowly opened my eyes, my vision still hazy from my nap. Robin was standing over me with a concerned look, looking me dead in the eyes with those teal eyes of hers.
"Is everything ok? You dozed off for like, 10 minutes," she said, bending down now and placing her soft hand on my forehead.
"Yeah, I'm ok. I didn't really get much sleep last night because of dads excitement."
"Hmm, if you say so. Lucy seems to be worn out too, she's sleeping like a log back there," she responded, looking back and pointing towards our old tree with a sleeping demon underneath the shade. "It's tomorrow right? Our awakening or whatever it was."
I got up and shook off the leaves that were resting on my thighs.
"Yeah, our assignation I believe is what it's called."
She got up with me, now gazing at the paved ground. For the past few weeks we had all been training, Robin especially, since our parents had thought that it would be a good idea for the three of us kids to train together. We were informed last week how someone from one of the main capitals of our region would come and document the village of new mages, something they apparently did every few years. I've seen them maybe once or twice before, but they only care about children who are at least 7 years old. Thankfully we were all relatively the same age, with Robin being the younger of us by only a few weeks.
Robin had also grown a lot. She was the median of the 3 of us, utilizing her wind mana arts well with the added bonus of being gifted at hand to hand combat. Elves were always gifted hand-to-hand fighters, but because she was assigned a spellbound by her insignia she had to master her ranged attacks too. The most surprising thing however was Dad. He apparently had also been able to use wind magic, just not as well as other wind mages so he never practiced, however he was able to give her a few pointers to help her excel and develop fast.
"I swear, ya kids are like some prodigy children or sum. I've never seen anyone progress this much this quickly," he often said when he trained us.
"Should we go wake up the sleeping demon?" I asked, walking towards the tree.
"Don't blame me if she burns your hair off your head," Robin responded, standing back and watching from a distance.
Creeping up on the tree, I walked behind the tree and tapped her shoulder.
"H-huh? D-did I fall asleep?" Lucy exclaimed, clearly confused and dazed from the sudden awakening.
I ran around the tree towards her left side and jumped/
"Gotcha!"
"AAAAAAAH" Lucy screamed, moving back and putting her palms out. A white wisp grew to life and in an instant roared with glory. "NOAH YOU JERK!"
Running back behind the tree, I raised my arms in the air and hid.
"Ok ok! I'm sorry!"
The noise was cut with a soft chuckling coming from Robin, who's now laughing with a hand over her mouth.
"Hmph, you're so rude.." Lucy pouted, now walking towards Robin. "Come here!"
She took off in a sprint trying to grab Robin which sent her into a sprint too.
"L-Lucy wait! I-I'm sorry too haha!" Robin laughed, trying not to trip from how hard she was chuckling.
"No come here! You need to be punished with tickles you crazy girl!"
Watching them two run around had given me some personal space so I sat down where Lucy was asleep. What was that dream about? Maybe it really is the sleep dementia getting to me, dad has been making us train really hard lately anyways. Now that I think about it, why did she seem so familiar?
I drifted back to sleep, ignoring the insignia on the back of my neck burn with what felt like the tally being stretched, sending me back into a vast sea of darkness.
