Analyn awakens. It is dark and quiet. It is night.
"And this is what I hate about naps!" Analyn thinks out loud. She climbs down the ladder to the entrance to the cave. Cinder is curled up asleep in the corner. Analyn walks out without making a peep, trying to avoid waking Cinder. She paces around the entrance before running much further away from her new home.
Analyn runs into the forest, admiring everything around her. She gets lost in thought and walks in no praticular pattern around the trees.
The sun begins to rise and Analyn realizes she is lost. She tries to retrace her steps, but she fails. Analyn begins to get hungry and if she gets back to Cinder, she wants some hunting expirience.
Analyn comes across a unicorn feeding it's baby shimmers. A perfect opportunity to practice. Now she must decide. The unicorn or one of it's shimmers. Eventually, she choses the unicorn itself.
Analyn jumps onto the unicorn, trying to claw at it. It swings wildly, and Analyn holds on tightly. Regardless, the unicorn flings her off and runs off.
Just as Analyn gets up one of the shimmers trip and get hurt. At first, she feels sympathy for the poor creature, but then she notices her hunger and the lack of plants. Analyn picks up the shimmer and it's siblings notice. While they run to alert their mother, Analyn runs off with the shimmer screeching fearfully in her arms.
She finally loses the unicorns, but more importantly, she got to Cinder's cave. Cinder came out.
"There you are!" she said, "And it seems you brought someone home." Cinder admired the catch brought by Analyn.
"I hunted it," she admitted, embarrassed.
"Seems you have a natural talent for it!" Cinder exclaimed, disregarding Analyn's own views.
"Thanks..."
Analyn came inside the cave and the shimmer was squirming around, but couldn't escape her grasp. "Nice catch, did you plan on using it, or simply traumatizing it?" Cinder had to ask.
"I planned on eating it. That's why we hunt, right?" Analyn claimed.
"Yes, but let's have breakfast. How about using your catch?" asked Cinder. She grabbed out an old, dusty cook book. The shimmer screeched, and Analyn hissed, covering it's mouth.
"Scones? Toast?"
"Pastries? Quiche?"
"How about a pastry?"
"Like a pie?"
"Yeah"
"Apple?"
Cinder looks out the entrance, "Apple. That's not hard. Let's do apple."
"Apple and unicorn pie? Sounds nice." Analyn agreed. They start on the pie crust. Cinder occassionally asks Analyn for help, but her main job was to keep the shimmer from escaping. She did ask Cinder why she didn't just suggest killing it now, but she explained that they might as well take advantage of the fact it came in there alive since fresh meat tasted the best.
Cinder begins to make the pie filling. Analyn helped cutting the shimmer while Cinder did the apple. She had never cut anything that wasn't meant to be cut before. "Are you sure you can cut that?" asks Cinder, jokingly, "You can't have hair in a pie!"
"What do you mean?" Analyn replies.
"Cut the main and tail out!"
Analyn cuts the hair off with the knife. It didn't matter if a bit of hair got in or a bit of the unicorn itself did not. The meat gets cut and the pie is in the oven. Cinder and Analyn chat for a little bit.
Finally, the pie is ready, and they eat. "Thanks. That pie was good. Do you do anything other than hunting?" Analyn asked.
You know about those classic fairytales, right? Where the princess gets captured by a dragon, maybe a witch or goblin. Then, a brave knight comes in. I mean maybe it's just any old dude but usually a knight. Anyways, you know those? Well this is not one of those stories. If you like those stories I advise you leave.
