I. Have. Had. Enough.
It has been three days since I made the deal with the ships’ Captain. For three whole days he has left me down in this wretched brig hole with nothing to keep me occupied. I have tried to be a patient prisoner and waited for the Captain to pay me another visit, but up until now not even a rat has come down here.
By this point I’m not even sure why I’m still here so willingly. I’m even considering jumping off this forsaken ship and walk along the seafloor to the nearest island. Though I would rather not as it takes an absurd amount of time, something I wish to stay as an absolute last resort.
I banged my head gently at the iron bars, hoping for something, just something to happen before I starve my way into slaughter. The Captain had been kind to give me food, something not any pirate would do to their prisoners. However the food they served me on the thin wooden tray was nothing that would extinguish my thirst. I bit down on my tongue feeling the taste of blood linger around in my mouth as I listened to the many heartbeats of this ship. I let the taste disappear along with any hungry thoughts I had as I swallowed, pressing down my urge in hopes I will get off this ship soon enough.
But for now I will not stay any longer in this dreadful prison.
I still had the small nail from my last escape, gently tucked into the lining of my red coat as I had a feeling I would come to need it once more. I crouched down, putting in the nail in the lock as I listened for the faint clicking sounds until the iron bar door was opened. Since no one stood guard in the brig I had a feeling most of the crew were currently on deck, tending to the ship as it traveled across the sea.
I only peeked up onto the floor above me, scanning for any unwanted attention before quietly making my way to the rear end of the ship. Since it was broad daylight I knew I wouldn’t be able to get onto the deck unseen, however I could climb from the outside.
I located the nearest window, taking a hold of two knives that were close by before climbing out from the small opening. I held the knives in my grasp, stabbing the ship with them as I used them to easily get myself into the Captain’s quarters.
Before getting inside, I scanned the room, catching someone sleeping in the bed in the far corner. With no hesitation I opened the window, climbing my way inside, leaving the two knives on the side of the ship before closing the window behind me. And just like that I had escaped from the filthy brig without any trace of me ever leaving.
Before I decide to make a mess I made my way over to the bed where the precious Captain was sleeping soundly.
Looking closely at his sleeping form, he seemed so peaceful, almost kind as he wasn’t frowning like all the other times he looked at me. His mane-like blond hair caressing his cheek and jaw like a soft morning breeze, a sight I couldn’t help but to admire before taking a step back. I wanted to take the opportunity to look around as I knew that you can tell quite a lot about a Captain depending on their quarters. However just as the last time I was here the room was quite empty and plain, which didn’t give me much to look through. I started by the desk but not much could be seen beside from a map, ink and a feather. How basic can you even get as a pirate Captain? I didn’t pay much attention before turning to the shelf on the right wall. I took out one book after the other, not stopping until I laid my eyes onto one interesting title.
- How did you get in here?
I only looked up from the book for a second, watching the angry and alarmed Captain who was now sitting in the bed with a knife in hand. Of course he would wake up from the most faint sound of paper being flipped, just my luck. Though this outcome might be a lot more amusing than I had originally planned.
I had almost forgotten the book in my hands as the Captain stared intensely at me with his blue eyes, only distracting me for a second before I quickly closed the book.
It was quite rare for a pirate to be able to read or write, except for a Captain of course, and as I didn’t want to expose myself just yet it was better to act stupid than anything else at the moment. I just hoped he wouldn't think too much of it.
I let my hand rest on top of the dull leather cover, patting it a few times before putting the book back in its place on the shelf.
- It had a nice colour.
- Did you break out yourself?
No a seagull came and broke me out, what do you think stupid.
Something I would rather say but I don’t wish to anger him more than he already was. At least not yet.
- Aye?
- ... Why is that?
- Well a certain pirate neglected me for far too long.
- I did not realise you needed to be attended to.
- Wasn’t I obvious enough already?
- ...Why am I even arguing with you-
The Captain didn’t wait another second before he got out of the bed and waltzed right up to me. I thought for a second he would give me a beating before feeling his hand take a hold of my wrist in an iron grip. He was obviously furious as he didn’t say another word, only dragging me out of his quarter onto the deck where his crew were busy swabbing the deck.
- W-wait!
I could feel many eyes staring towards our direction, frozen in place to witness whatever was going on. However the Captain didn’t stop for anything as he continued walking, dragging me down under deck with him, still not uttering a single word.
- Are you seriously taking me back down to that wretched hole?!
Just like before he didn’t answer me, ignoring my words as I continued to complain. However as he dragged me after him I got to observe the area around us, memorising the route and objects as it might come in handy later on. I knew I would be able to set myself free from his grasp if I tried but, what would be fun in that?
On the way back to the brig he ordered two men of his to stand guard outside of my cell before throwing me back inside the filthy cage.
- Now stay put. I will come down later and attend to you.
I almost stumbled into the wooden wall of the ship as he closed and locked the iron door behind me, not waiting a second before waltzing up the stairs he just came from.
- You think I will listen to your commands so easily?!
I yelled after him, as a warning that I wouldn’t stay locked up any longer than I already had. I wasn’t sure my words reached him or not, but I’m sure the screams of his so called guards will.
- Hey you two. Would you be so kind and unlock the door for me?
I placed my hands onto the iron door, leaning onto it with all my weight as I blew a cold breeze against one of the guards necks. I made sure my words were convincing, a little flirtatious tone hiding in my voice as I knew most lonely men at sea had a hard time resisting it.
- Be quiet.
Of course it wasn’t always effective. However if there is something I have learned during my time as a pirate it is if flirting doesn’t work, fear sure will.
I placed my hands on top of the iron bars of the cage, tapping it with my fingers to get the guards attention before changing my approach.
- Did you seriously just tell me to shut up? Let me demonstrate what happens with those who anger me.
Without further ado, I pulled the bars apart, bending them as if they were made out of the thinnest metal, almost breaking in my grasp. It didn’t take a second before the guards ran for their lives up the wooden stairs, screaming on top of their lungs as if they had just witnessed a demon.
With a smile on my lips I squeezed myself out of the gap that I had just made, walking my way up the stairs as I dusted off my coat.
It hadn’t even been three minutes since the Captain left me with those weak minded men, and by the look of it he hadn’t made it far as our eyes met in the staircase, an astonished expression lingering over his features as he tried to grasp what just happened. Though it didn’t last long as he took a hold of my arm, a bitter scowl now etched onto his face.
- I am done with your antics, pirate.
- Oh really?
I said as a smirk growing wider on my lips, a rush of amusement taking over my mind as I let the last words of my sentence roll off my tongue.
- I’m just getting started.
I was secretly hoping for him to give in to his frustration, instead he managed to remain somewhat calm. But now that I had broken the bars of his cell he couldn’t possibly keep me there. He had nowhere to put me. I still had a smile on my lips, pleased by the upperhand I had gotten my hands on as I waited for his next move.
- Besides, I broke your little cell. You have nowhere to put me now.
- Is that so?
