Said Tyler’s leopard friend, Jinx, as they both walked into the city gates.
“Yeeeahhh…but only because Aurora talked me into it. Otherwise, I more than likely would’ve slept in today.”
Tyler said back.
Fort Boscarprud was a pretty large city that was not only known for its namesake being one of the most famous landmarks, but also for its nightlife, and the rich history that surrounds it being one of the island’s first settlements. It often has a ferry that goes to Nyckrod Harbour on the other island.
“Our first stop is going to be the city’s library, because Dad wants me to find out more on the whole “Sunset Werewolf” fiasco, since this is apparently the first time in many years that this has happened..”
Jinx pondered.
“I honestly had a feeling, since that’s an entirely new thing to me too and I’m assuming a lot of other people..well,around our age, would probably agree. Although..speaking of werewolves, I hope Brian and Sammy will join us later!”
Tyler softly smiled.
“They will, don’t worry. They both said they were getting ramen for lunch and then they’d join us. Although, that does raise the question…I wonder how Brian’s been coping with that? I remember him being so terrified to be a werewolf.”
“Part of me does want to ask, but I feel like he’s not going to tell us. You know he’s not the most vocal when something bothers him.”
Jinx sighed.
“Yeah..you’re right.”
The two of them soon approached the front doors of the Library.
Tyler gazed up at the big building.
“But anyway, I’m sure we’ll have to find some answers here.”
They walked inside, and looked around; the interior to them looked far bigger than the outside, as the library had two floors of books and other various artifacts and relics. A familiar face greeted them at the front desk.
“Hello Tyler.”
“Astraaaaa! How are youuu?”
Astra was a Maine Coon and Tabby hybrid who was roughly as tall as him, and her fur was an even mixture of grey with beige undertones. She softly tapped her fingers on the desk’s surface.
“Pretty good! Keeping the kids from destroying the place, as per usual. It’s not as hard of a job as I’m making it sound though. What brings you here this time?”
“Pops wanted me to look into more science-y stuff for him since he’s way too busy to leave the Observatory.”
Astra softly snapped her fingers.
“Ah. Well, funny you said that, because your brother’s here too for that exact reason. He’s…somewhere in here, but I’m sure you’ll find him.”
“Hmm, well in that case I might not need to look if he’s already searching for it…”
The maine coon cat shrugged.
“I’d say go look anyway. He might not have found the info you need yet.”
“Fair enough.”
Tyler would say back, nodding his head as he and Jinx entered the main area, searching up and down each aisle; The fiction , non-fiction, historical, films, and the miscellaneous sections.
Jinx’s leopard ears would wiggle a bit as she heard what sounded like a group of people talking.
“Waiiit…I think I recognize their voices..”
Her ears would lead them to a group of people sitting in a lounge area; One of them was a red panda but with purple fur and white hair, another was a Cardigan Welsh Corgi who often sported a yellow bandanna, and the other two were reindeer, except one had blue hair and the other was brown.
Tyler looked over at Jinx as they all waved and said hi to the duo.
“Ah! Yeah, they’re my brother’s friends. The red panda is Indigo, the doggo is Anthony, and the two reindeer siblings are Clover and Dasher. Clover’s the blue one and Dasher’s the brown one.”
Clover got up and held her hand out to the leopard.
“It’s wonderful to meet you!”
Jinx shyly held her hand out in return.
“Heh..it’s..nice to meet you too. Gosh, you’re very pretty.”
Clover softly chuckled, her face glowing up with a light blue blush that matched her hair.
“Aw, thank you! You are as well!”
Jinx sheepishly laughed in return.
“Ahh..gosh, you’re too sweet.”
Clover smiled and gestured the two to come sit down with them, since there were two extra beanbags open.
Anthony got up off of the beanbag he was sharing with Dasher.
“Aaaaaah hang on, I’m getting a call.”
As Tyler sat down, he suddenly felt someone’s hands perch themselves on his shoulders, and a whisper in his ears.
“Hello there.”
He looked up at the familiar voice.
“General Kenobiii.”
It was his brother Adam.
“Did you find anything on the Sunset Werewolf transformations like Pops wanted us to?”
Tyler shook his head.
“Hardly. There’s very few articles on it so I feel this has to be a more recent occurrence within the last 50 years.”
Adam scratched his head.
“That’s what I feared. However, I think I may have a bit of a lead..but it’s at the fort.”
Tyler pondered.
“Never would’ve expected it to be there of all places.”
He looked over to Jinx.
“Adam and I are going to go check out the fort for some answers. Are you gonna be okay being here by yourself?”
Jinx nodded her head.
“..Yeah, I’m sure. Don’t worry about me.”
Dasher rested his arm on her shoulder.
“She’ll be juuuust fine. We don’t bite.”
“…That hard.”
The two soon left the library and made their way over to the fort that became the town’s namesake. It was one of the island’s first settlements along with being one of the oldest buildings that still remain standing. Neither Adam or Tyler knew what connection it had to their newly discovered transformation, but they were curious to find out anyway. As they approached the gates, they were stopped by a blue angel dragon as he floated down and touched the ground.
“Halt. What brings you two here?”
He’d say, stopping the boys in their tracks.
Adam stepped forward.
“We’re..looking for answers on our weird powers. May I ask who you are?”
“I am Riptide. Protector of this city and Guardian of the fort. I have to keep the artifacts here from getting stolen. How do I know you two won’t do such a thing?”
Tyler sheepishly laughed.
“Because we wouldn’t have come here otherwise?”
Riptide squinted.
“Hmmm…”
“Please?”
The angel dragon softly grunted.
“..Eugh..Fine. But, you better stay true to your word.”
This comic series is, in a nutshell, going to be based on my own childhood experiences from growing up in the Caribbean with my family.
Caribbean Escapades primarily focuses on Brian and his close friend Usui. Joined by their friends, Sammy, Jinx, and Tyler, as well as their classmates, they leave their home island of St. Monusea and venture across the Caribbean for the summer; they experience new things and new people to befriend, and on occasion, old and familiar faces as well. And who knows? Maybe they'll discover new things about themselves, too!
