After Bali, we took our first 17-hour bus trip from Bali to Yogyakarta to meet a friend. Yogyakarta is in Java. It is quite uncommon for foreigners to take this bus. Most people choose to fly there.

At the bus terminal, all the bus tour service vendors were trying to sell tickets to Dan. However, he got the best deal for a price lower than what local people would normally pay with his bargaining skills. We hopped onto a bus and started our 3-hour-bus-trip. The leg room was sufficient in this bus even for his long legs. Just after a short nap we arrived at a Ferry Pier to go across the sea to Java.

While we were waiting inside the bus to board onto the ferry, many hawkers came on the bus to sell snacks. One of them kept saying, Nasi Campur, Campurrrrrrr, Campurrrrr, meaning mixed rice. He kept rolling his tongue to pronounce Campurrrr. We were laughing so hard just watching him and hearing the sound.

Once the bus parked inside the ferry, everyone hurried to get off. The ferry was four-storey high. The whole boat was full of Indonesian people. We felt so confused by where we were - Titanic music background, cruise ship environment, beautiful sunset and surrounded by hundreds of Indonesian.

After the ferry, we started the third part of the bus trip. The bus driver was driving very fast on a tiny bumpy road. We arrived at a restaurant at 10pm, not expecting much of great food. It was actually a nice buffet dinner with a few choices of food - chicken, rice, vegetable soap and some fruits. Everyone ate so quickly. We were the only people enjoying the meal and still using the bathroom. Suddenly, the bus driver horned at us asking us to run back to the bus. We were the last people to return to the bus! The passengers were all sleeping already.

When Daniel was young, he had a dream: to have an extended honeymoon with the woman he loves.

He did not know how she looks or where is she from, but he wanted to spend the first year of his marriage with his wife.

Inspired by the Bible verse, Deuteronomy 24:5 : When a man get married. The first year he shall not call to war or business, but stay at home and please his wife.
He thought what if people actually do it?

Life is short and full of hustles. Soon we will have kids, pursuing career, earning money and the list goes on and on. If we are to be married for 50 years of our lives, 1 year out of 50 is only 2%. Why don't we devote one year to just focus on marriage, enjoy and learn about each other, build a strong foundation for marriage, and create the memories that we would never forget?

We would never have the first year of marriage back. If we rush back to work the next day after our wedding and be occupied with other priorities in life, will we get to know each other’s needs or spend quality time together? So me (flOra) and my husband Daniel decided to give our best time and attention to each other in our first year of marriage.
