She deadened. “His thoughts are gone, like he shut them off. We are heading into danger. We need to remove ourselves from his focus. He’s looking for us,” Iris said stiffly. “That Greenie must have put a cloaking spell on us, which is why he can’t tell for sure if we are the forbidden ones.”
“A what?” Bear asked. I knew what this meant. We had something similar back home. It came to good use when we were playing hide and seek or hiding when we were in trouble.
“It’s a spell that allows others to see us as they appear to themselves, not for who we really are. He seems to be able to feel our energy though, which puts us in great danger. He is suspicious of us. We should get some sleep before our ‘safe’ period is up. Who knows how strong this deal actually is.” She made eye contact with the barmaid. “Could we have a room please?” she asked.
“Of course. A room is already prepared for you,” the barmaid replied, causing us all to look at each other with furrowed brows.
“It must be part of the deal,” Iris murmured.
“May I say, you have the most unusual eyes.” The barmaid stared into Iris's jade gaze.
We followed the barmaid up the stairs. “He is in trouble for looting,” Iris whispered to me.
“What?” I replied in a matching tone.
“The man downstairs… though I’m sure he has done more than that.”
