I had a boss once who had an uncanny ability to gracefully pirouette away from any responsibilities thrown at her. If something stuck, no problem - she had a black belt in delegation. Failing that, there’s the old “lie/deny/cry” technique. It was more hassle to question her than it was to just mumble under your breath and do it yourself.
In other words: if you can be a great boss, then be one, if not, then be terrible. It’s the middle ground that will eat you alive, when you’re not quite competent enough to do the job well, but you care enough to try. If you’re ever in that situation, just embrace the dark side.
