two kids sleep on a couch in a dark room. all the doors to the room are locked. these locks probably won’t hold, and the kids probably know that. it’s stupid of them to fall asleep, but surviving in an apocalyptically evil house for several days can be draining on a person.
we hear a sound. the two kids wake up and look around, terrified looks on their faces.
tense seconds pass, the door doesn’t open, and nothing comes in. the nonexistent thing doesn’t run over and kill them, and the two kids don’t die painful, screaming deaths.
there’s always next time, however.
???5: we’re going to die here.
???6: we should be positive about this.
???5: there’s nothing to be positive about. the asshole shoved us through the pinhole and put us here and now we’re going to fucking die.
???6: boy, please. we have a chance. a small lil’ slice of a chance, but a chance.
???5: a chance of what, dying painlessly? i agree. if we’re lucky we’ll get murdered in our sleep, or get knocked out before the room eats us alive.
???5: i fucking hate (SPOILER). i thought we were cool, but i guess i was a fucking fool for thinking that.
???:6 y’know, we were all kinda fools. the Old Man warned us all. we didn’t listen.
???5: pretty soon the others will get shoved here, too. by then we’ll be dead.
the other kid takes a shuddering breath.
???6: i don’t wanna die without knowing who i am.
???6: i know my name, and that’s it.
???6: i don’t know my family, i don’t know where i live, i don’t know my friends… i… don’t…
she trails off into silent sobbing. the other kid takes a few shaky breaths before succumbing to tears as well.

they cry silently for a while, before one says,
???5: let’s say…
???5: let’s say we never had friends.
???5: we never had family.
???5: we never existed anywhere but here.
the words seem to push both of them further down the hill of dismay, but the kid powers on, talking through his own sobs.
???5: … so we’ll be friends. we’ll be family. this is where we live.
???5: nothing else matters.

no one speaks for a while. the two kids slump on the couch, crying, until we hear a CLICK and a door opens.
