Looking around Hikari was at a loss, having been walking around for what felt like ages, she was starting to feel exhausted and irritated.
“ARGH! My feet are starting to hurt!” she yelled out in anger and frustration.
“Where did that damn king drop me off! He said I was going to be close to a town, but this is NOTHING like what he told me.” Letting out an exasperated sigh she moved a group of wines out of the way, drawing her sword to use it as a sort of cutting utensil to make traversing much easier for herself.
“If I didn’t... NGHHH. come into this world with this short sword I would have so much more trouble.” She spoke out as she squeezed her body between the wines to get to the other side of the brush.
“All right, I am clearly making close to zero progress here.” She says, softly looking down the path she came from. “Maybe it can help to mark my pathing. That way I can tell where I have and have not been.” She said raising her sword. The sword was nothing fancy, a simple short sword, perfect for a newbie adventurer with no combat experience.
“Actually, on second thought.” She said as she looked upon the scene of cut vines that had been wildly shredded in order to make a average sized girl squeeze through it.
Sheathing the blade once more she practically spins on her heel making a 180 degree turn before marching forward. Giving little to no care for her surroundings she hears a small crack beneath her feet.
Freezing up for a moment she lifts her foot. “Did I really just snap a twig by stepping on it? What is this a horror movie?”
She paid little to no mind on the matter as she continues traversing the fields. The sounds of birds and the wind filling up her ears and tickling her soft skin.
The sound of nature was only cut short by not-so-distant growling. Causing Hikami’s attention. “What is that sound?” she asks turning around the lady sees two creatures, standing on four legs growling, large fangs on dangerous display, coated in a light layer of the creature’s saliva. Its white fur standing out from the background like an eye sore. Its size similar to what one might expect of the average Pitbull.
“Oh crap!” Were the only words that came to Hikami’s mind as she stares down these two creatures.
“Hey, there. Nice little puppies.” She speaks in a anxious manner, her legs trembling as she slowly reaches down and slowly draws her sword in the opposite hand to er wooden shield.
“I I really do not want to have to do this.” She barely manages to speak as she was pointing the sword towards her opponents in a shaky manner.
Letting out an aggravated growl the first of the two wolves charge Hikami, dashing on the ground it kicked up grass and dirt rushing at the panicked girl. Leaping into the air with its flesh ripping mouth wide open.
Out of fear Hikari leaped to the side. Feeling herself thump onto the ground the wolf going above her. She felt safe for but a moment as she heard the thud of the wolf hitting the ground. “I don’t have the time!” she yells out in desperation, rolling onto her back with her shield raised.
As predicted, she did not get a moment to rest the second wolf crashing into the shield, causing the top of the shield to bash into her nose, bloodying it. “Argh! That hurt you bastard!”
In the moment of aggravating rage, she clenched her one-handed grip. Keeping the shield provided against the wolf keeping it from clawing at her flesh. As in one quick motion she moves the shield out of the way letting the wolf drop as she quickly slashed her blade at its head.
For the first time she experiences what cutting flesh is like. The light initial resistance followed by the sensation of the smoothly slashing through the flesh after the skin was pierced. It was oddly satisfying.
After the kill a message screen popped up. “You have slain lvl:1 wolf 3 experience points have been awarded!”
The message distracts her for a moment making her drop her guard which allowed the initial wolf to land a damaging slash with its claws down her back.
A red screen flashed for but a second. “You have suffered critical damage 6 hit points have been lost!”
The pain rushing through her body was bone chilling. It being too great for her body to allow a scream to come out.
Hikami stumbled forward a few steps, the pain slowly setting in. Her frozen state vanishing as her instincts kicked in the moment, she heard the wolf charging her once more.
“No, you don’t!” she yelled out quickly exclaimed. Intercepting the wolf by bashing her shield to the side of its head knocking it on its side.
Here it whimpers as it kicks and flails to get back up. However, Hikami raised her sword brining it through the chest of this beast. As it goes limp and motionless.
“You have slain lvl:1 wolf 3 experience points have been awarded!”
She cared very little about this. Huffing out trying to catch her breath as the adrenaline slowly lets out.
Looking back at the corpse she had just created something caught her attention. A small screen appeared on the corpse. “This corpse can be reanimated. Would you like to add this corpse to your army?”
“so that, is...” huff, huff. “How this works. Yea I would like that.”
The screen then shifts. “Please announce the creature type.”
“So, unlike a video game I actually have to announce it. Okay. Add zombie to my army.” She announces as suddenly the body is shrouded in green, purple, and black energy. It looks much like a soft light source one might see from a pond illuminated by the moon. As the wolf begins to kick and squirm once more.
“Oh! That was fast!” Hikami quickly removes her sword. Watching as the bloodied creature gets back up on its feet letting out a horrid gurgle that vaguely resembled a growl. The wolf then walks over and sits by Hikami’s side.
“Oh. It really has become loyal to me!” She said sounding quite surprised. “Wait hold on! What if!” she exclaimed almost excited in her weakened state.
Slowly shambling over to the beheaded wolf, she inspects it closely. As a message appears once more. “This creature is in no condition for reanimation.”
“Awe crap. Wait, is that because I only have a zombie slot open?” she wondered before sighing. “It’s not worth risking, so for now I will continue onward.” She states as she stretches. Trembling heavily during the stretch due to the pain she is experiencing.
She looks to her first ever undead before smiling and once more moving forward in hopes of finding a civilization.
