Love comes in mysterious ways. You might be going to a cafe to get a coffee, and then you suddenly come out with the person you’re going to spend the rest of your life with instead of the coffee. I think the most common way that people find love is in school, because you’re going to see that person most of the time. You get to know someone in class, you talk to them often, and then you’re suddenly dating. I think that would be tedious though, because now you have to walk them to class and be with them throughout the whole day instead of your friends. To each their own, I guess.
It’s the second year of high school. You’re old enough not to do your first year mistakes but not old enough to realize that those same mistakes still happen in your second year. There’s really not much of a difference between the years except for obvious examples such as learning different material. However, you will need to acquire certain skills as a first year student to be able to survive moving forward. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case at all for my first year. Thinking back, I don’t think I had any particular skill.
As with a lot of people, I was hoping to get into the popular crowd, but that was too difficult for me.
“Hey Haruki, we’re going to karaoke tonight, want to come?” asked one of the students.
“Yeah, let’s definitely bring Haruki! He’s the coolest person in our class,” the class was rooting for me to come.
“Sorry, I have to go feed my dog,” I sighed.
I’m athletic, but I’m not athletic enough to be the pillarstone for the school where they place their hopes and dreams.
“Let’s go play some basketball, Haruki!” exclaimed one of the players.
“I heard Haruki is the only one in our grade that can dunk! We’ll definitely win it all!” exclaimed another player.
“Sorry, I have to go feed my cat,” I sighed.
I thought I possessed leadership skills, but I couldn’t even get selected to be the class representative.
“I think Haruki would be best suited as our class representative,” announced a student in the class.
“Yeah, I agree! He always has that strong charisma whenever he talks,” the class echoed the sentiment.
“Sorry, I have to go feed my bird,” I sighed.
At this point, I think the only thing going for me are my grades. I guess that’s fine, because it’ll help me in the long run.
“Haruki, you’re pretty much failing this class,” said my teacher with a stern face.
“So, I’m not getting all A’s?” I asked.
“On the contrary, you’re pretty much below average in all of your classes.”
“Sorry, I have to go feed my goldfish,” I sighed.
“What does that have to do with anything?” my teacher scowled and hit me over the top of my head.
I guess I don’t have any redeeming qualities about myself, and I’m just going to end up being the loser again for my second year. As I walked to my class, I could feel a sense of despair creeping over my shoulder. It felt like a bug was climbing up, and I couldn’t smack it off no matter how hard I tried. I decided to come as early as possible to class, because I didn’t want anyone to make fun of me. I opened the door and walked in to find a girl with their head flat on the desk.
She had long, black hair with a small ribbon on top, and she was wearing our school uniform, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen her before. I crept a little closer to get a better look at her, and I saw that she was sleeping comfortably. She kind of looked like a doll with how pale her skin was.
“Don’t leave,” she mumbled in her sleep.
I thought she was having a nice dream, but I guess it was a nightmare. I debated on waking her up or not, but after a few seconds, I got my answer.
“Why are you in my face?” she asked as her eyes were glaring right at me.
“I don’t know,” I replied as I slowly walked towards my desk as if nothing happened.
