In the evening aunt Zhenya asked him to follow her. They were climbing higher and higher. Massive wooden doors were opening just by themselves to let aunt Zhenya and Pavel in. It seemed to him that even stone walls in narrow corridors were becoming wider for aunt Zhenya to walk comfortably. She was a real mistress of that place and it obeyed her.
They passed the last stairs and went out on to an open area on the top of a tower.
And Pavel could swear that there was no tower before. Or he just hadn't seen it.
But still there was the tower above the forest. Just somewhere in the middle between the sky and trees. It was getting dark. A young moon started flickering among the stars which were still pale but going to lighten brightly really soon.
Pavel could see the trees as if floating in the night gloom. They were huge but he and aunt Zhenya left them far beneath while climbing onto the tower.
“Now watch,” said aunt Zhenya. “Stay still and do not fear. You shall not be harmed with my lightnings ever. Remember it.”
Then she rose her hand and the wind blew. It was so strong that Pavel thought that wind could blow both of them off from the area on the top towards the ground. But it didn't. Pavel looked up and saw that the wind just brought the clouds which were covering whole sky now.
Then the thunder rumbled. Once and again. It sounded louder and louder closer and closer. Finally the lightning appeared in the sky and stroke right into aunt Zhenya.
Pavel gasped but stayed where he had been and continued watching.
Aunt Zhenya moved her hands quickly in some unusual way and rose them again. This time she was the souse from which the lightning stroke into the sky. It looked like a sort of connection between aunt Zhenya and the clouds. The sky changed its color becoming some blueish purple for a moment. The next second the rain started. The drops though were nor falling on them as if the rain was everywhere except for the place they were standing.
Then aunt Zhenya turned to Pavel. And he could see in her eyes the reflections of all the things happening around. There were lightnings and trees under the rain. There were every water drop falling from the sky.
Aunt Zhenya touched his shoulder with her hand and Pavel felt the electrical impulse in his veins. It wasn't painful. Little lightnings which were transferred from aunt Zhenya seemed to make his intelligence clear somehow. There were no thoughts though. Only feelings which united together making one supreme feeling. The feeling of existing as it is. A feeling of being alive with the whole world is moving around.
“Watch,” said aunt Zhenya.
And Pavel started watching observing every piece of existence around him.
“This place,” continued aunt Zhenya. “It used to be called the Forests of Thunderstorms. Well, I call it this way even now. Our clan owned them for thousands years. There. Can you see the town with all the people living in it?”
Pavel saw it. There were lots of lights not too far away.
“Their little town is prospering now. You know why?”
“The rain,” answered Pavel.
He could feel that it wasn't just ordinary rain. There was magic in it. There was magic everywhere around.
“Right, the rain,” aunt Zhenya was smiling. “My rains are making this land rich. And every living being here is becoming healthier. Including people of course. My rains are bringing a true harmony for everyone who can make their minds to join it.”
“So you are making people healthy?” asked Pavel.
“Yes, but it isn't panacea. I'm not almighty you know. Why are you surprised?”
“Well, I've heard some old fairy-tails. There were witches starting the epidemics.”
“That's right,” said aunt Zhenya. “We can do it. And witches had actually done it. They had their reasons though. But when you are bringing a hell itself onto the place you are living it's going to be consequences. You are going to deal with it. Live with it. Or even more likely die. All our doings have consequences. But living in a beautiful place with gorgeous nature and people nice to you is a good thing you know. That's why our family is taking care for this land. Well, every old magic family has some place to take care. As for our clan doing this with the rain is a duty of the head of the clan. Now, we should continue. Try to observe this lands. Watch it with your mind. I'll help you just a little.”
Pavel was floating high above the forest. He was watching the castle as if he was outside somewhere. Though he was standing on the top of the tower at the same time.
Then everything changed. He saw this land but it was deserted. Then the woods were growing and growing too fast all around.
There was no castle. No people. No town. Just trees.
Everything changed again. The castle was rising and changing. Centuries passed by. The time passed.
There was no castle again. Just some ruins.
But then Pavel saw aunt Zhenya. She was much younger.
“Yeah, it was me who rebuilt the castle again. After centuries it was lying in ruins,” said aunt Zhenya somewhere near to him. “I rebuilt our clan also. Everything from ruins. But continue watching. You are going to see the future.”
The time passed. The forest around was changing. As well as the town.
More time.
Pavel saw the ruins again. There was no more castle. Just ashes and stones on the ground.
More time passed.
There was nothing here. Even those old ruins were under the ground coved with the grass now.
“Enough for now,” said aunt Zhenya.
They were standing at an open area on the top of the tower again.
Pavel looked at aunt Zhenya and asked. “Was it the future? The real one?”
“It was.”
“You are not surprised? And not even worried!”
“Why should I be worried?” asked aunt Zhenya.
“This whole place... There was just ruins. Some thing's going to happen in the future.”
“Something is happening all the time,” said aunt Zhenya calmly. “Do not let any visions to disturb your mind. And do not worry about neither past nor future. You have the present to deal with. It is always the present to worry about. There are always a decisions to make. A life to live. Remember, everything has its end. This castle will not be here forever. And even our clan will not exist forever. That can not be changed. The time can not be defeated. You should value what you have. And try to spend your life the way you really want. That's the worthiest thing in the world. That's the only thing that make sense. And that is the major lesson you should learn. Everything ends. The future comes. That's just the way this world is working. Accept that and do not worry too much about the things happening around. Do whatever you think it right. You are going to make your mistakes anyway. That's just the way we are living our lives.”
