After the incident, Director Hans allowed Sage to go home and take a few days off, knowing that Sage is really going to need it after what had happened. Sage knew that he has a stalker who would do anything to get to him, but he didn’t think that they would be able to easily get to him while at work where the security is supposed to be really strict. Maybe his stalker is someone that he hadn’t thought about if it is someone at work.
He trembles.
They can easily get to him this way and there’s nothing he can do about it.
He is broken out of his thoughts as Dominic opens his door, standing there on guard, looking around and making sure that they haven’t been followed. Sage draws in a deep breath and grabs his papers to work on while he is at home. Just because he is getting a break doesn’t mean that he can’t work on practicing his line.
It’s just something that he has always done for as long as he can remember.
Dominic shuts the door behind Sage, and places his hand on the small of Sage’s back, causing him to jump slightly at the touch. Sage is very self-conscious of Dominic’s large hand on his back only separated by the thin piece of clothing that he wears. Dominic doesn’t seem to care though as he guides Sage inside, keeping a safe distance beside him to let Sage feel a little safer than he has in a long while.
Sage gets out his keys the moment they make it to their door, but before he puts the key in, he glances left and right, making sure that the stalker isn’t around. When he is sure that there isn’t a bad guy around, he shoves the key into the hole and unlocks the door before pushing it open. Stepping inside his apartment, Sage waits for Dominic to come inside before shutting the door.
“I have to get the guest bedroom ready.” Sage tells him, just wanting this to be done and over with before he ends up doing something stupid or say something stupid, “I-“
Almost immediately, Sage’s eyes train on Dominic’s hands, noticing that he has fresh cuts on his hands. Sage’s eyes widen when he realizes when the light broke, Dominic must’ve cut his hands on the shards, and who knows what his back looks like. Feeling a protectiveness well inside of Sage, he immediately grabs the hem of Dominic’s sleeve and drags him over to the chair, making him sit down.
“Take off your shirt.” Sage commands, his lips slightly pursing, “I’m going to go and get my first aid kit. Why didn’t you let any of us know that you were injured?”
Like always, Dominic doesn’t say a thing, but does end up grabbing the hem of his shirt and lifting it up and over his head, tossing it aside. Sage’s eyes are immediately drawn to Dominic’s wide shoulders, toned chest, and ripped abs. Sage can’t help but also notice the scars littering his body, making Sage’s heart ache for him.
What happened for him to look this way? Who did this to him?
“Let me grab the first aid kit.” Sage mumbles, moving to the closet, quickly finding it without having to think too much, “I hate knowing that you got hurt because of me. I know it is your job but nobody has tried to hurt me before. Honestly, it is a little scary if you think about it. I don’t know why this person is doing this, or what they want from me. I’m nobody special.”
Dominic still does not respond to anything, and just sits there quietly as Sage takes out all the supplies he is going to need, very carefully disinfecting Dominic’s wounds, seeing how Dominic didn’t even move a muscle when Sage carefully dabs at the wounds. His lips are slowly turned down in a frown, wondering how Dominic can just endure this.
And when he looks at Dominic’s back, his heart hurts as he sees the giant bruises.
“I am so sorry.” Sage apologizes, grabbing some of the numbing cream from the kit, “I don’t know if this will help at all but it’s supposed to help with pain. I can put it on the bruises and hopefully it will numb it a little bit so you won’t have to feel it all.”
Dominic just nods, and Sage gently spreads the cream onto his back, biting his bottom lip as he gazes at the wide expanse of Dominic’s back and shoulders, wondering how a man could look so ripped and handsome. Never in his entire life has he felt so drawn to someone before even though he is gay.
He’s just never felt the need to date.
And now he is finding his bodyguard really attractive?
Shit, he’s doing something wrong here. He can’t become interested in the man who is paid to protect him. Dominic hasn’t even said a word to him so there must be something seriously wrong with Sage in this moment.
Once he is done tending to Dominic’s wounds, he steps back, admiring his handiwork for a split second before he puts everything away. His heart is thudding rapidly in his chest, trying to ignore Dominic’s piercing eyes on him now.
“I’m going to go and get your room finished.” Sage quickly says, fleeing to the other side of the room, “it won’t take me too long.”
After he gets away from Dominic, he goes to the closet and gets out fresh sheets and blankets. Going to the guest room, he opens the curtains and opens the window, letting in some fresh air. He strips the bed, replacing the fabric quickly, just wanting to get this finished so he doesn’t have to worry about it again.
“I’m done.” Sage calls down the hall, “I’m going to go and take a shower. You can bring in your bags if you want.”
Sage doesn’t wait for a response as he heads to his bedroom, quickly shutting the door behind himself. Drawing in a deep breath, he walks into the bathroom that is conjoined to his room, stripping off his clothing in the process. Turning on the shower, he waits for it to warm up before stepping inside. He lets the warm water cascade over his body, letting out a deep sigh, feeling like his worries are washing away and down the drain.
Sage closes his eyes, begging someone to give him the strength to get through all of this without losing his sanity. He’s honestly not sure how he is going to do it, but it’s going to have to take one day at a time. Hopefully…
Bang!
Bang!
BANG!
Sage jumps as he can hear someone banging on the apartment door, sending shivers of fear down his spine. Quickly turning off the shower, Sage wraps his towel around his waist, rushing out of the bathroom and out of his room, hearing the persistent knocking getting louder and louder with every passing second.
Where is Dominic?
Sage stands in front of the door, his heart pounding in his chest, wondering if the knocking is going to end at any second. His heart is thudding rapidly in his chest, afraid of what is going to happen next, and if it is the stalker on the other side…
Sage steps closer, and looks through the peephole, a little afraid of what he is going to see. His breath hitches when he sees a hooded person standing on the other side of the door, unable to see their face. As if they knew Sage were there, they slam their fist into the door, and a lowly voice comes from the other side.
“I know you are there, Sage. Let me in.”
Sage lets out a gasp of terror as he stumbles back, tripping over his own feet and landing on the ground with a thump.
“Leave me alone!” Sage yells, feeling like he is going to explode, “I don’t know what I ever did to deserve this but go back to wherever you came from! I don’t want you near me!”
All of a sudden, the knocking stops.
Did they really go, Sage wonders to himself, feeling more and more afraid with every passing second. His heart leaps in his throat when he hears the lock being turned and the doorknob slowly being opened. Sage closes his eyes, preparing for the moment the stalker comes in and kills him.
Where is Dominic?
A gentle, large hand presses against Sage’s cheek, and Sage’s eyes fly open.
Dominic is kneeling in front of him, a confused look in his eyes as he gazes at Sage. Seeing the door wide open behind Dominic and the bags standing there, Sage realizes that Dominic had gone to get his things while the stalker came up.
Tears welled in Sage’s eyes and not even caring that he is just in a towel, he jumps into Dominic’s arms, sobbing. Dominic’s arms immediately wrap around him, making Sage feel protected, his whole body shaking as he can’t control the tears streaming down his face.
Now Dominic is here, and Sage feels safer…
But for how long?
