I loved movie night because it was never the same movie every night. You see, Tia and I don't have the same taste in movies. Instead, I am into sci-fi and horror movies, and Tia is into mystery and monster movies. Still, the only movies we had in common were action and musicals. We have a thing whoever's house is picking the movie, and lucky for Tia, it has been her house for the last two movie nights. So she was going down a weird path where old black-and-white movies were her obsession. I am just hoping that tonight she doesn't pick another movie like that again. We were sitting in the kitchen. I watched her pour popcorn kernels into her popcorn machine and pour butter in before starting the machine.
"So, what is the movie for tonight?" I asked, and Tia turned to me with a big smile.
"Okay, I know you hated the last movies I picked, so we are doing something different tonight," She said.
"I didn't hate them," I said, and Tia scoffed and walked over to her cabinet, pulling out two large bowls.
"Please, you were practically sleeping last Friday during the movie," Tia said.
"S- sorry," I said, rubbing the back of my neck.
"Well, never mind that I have to right a wrong," Tia said.
"Huh," I said, tilting my head and watching her pour my popcorn into a bowl before making her batch.
"We are watching a classic tonight," Tia said.
"And that is?" I asked.
"Jurassic Park," Tia said.
"Oh, the one with Chris Prat?" I said, and Tia gasped and held her hand to her chest.
"No, the original, the start of it all," Tia said.
"Wait, is it the one with Jeff Goldblum laying there with his hurt open that became a meme?" I asked.
"Oh my god, that is what you got from that. That is it, you uncultured swine," Tia said. I laughed, and Tia watched her pour her popcorn into another bowl and sprinkled cayenne pepper on her popcorn, and I cringed.
"How are you not sick of that?" I asked, and she laughed. She walked towards the table where I was sitting and placed the bowl down before walking over to the cabinet and reaching inside to grab us two large cups.
"Don't knock it until you try it," Tia said, walking out of the kitchen.
I laughed and grabbed her bowl, following behind her. The living room was set accordingly—blankets on the floor with pillows lined up against the couch facing the large TV. We sat there, placing the bowl on the floor and the cups next to each other, settling into our spots, and Tia pulled out her phone opening of the dominos app.
"Okay, so the pizza is almost here," Tia said.
"Okay, good. So while we wait, I have some questions for you," I said.
"Yeah, shoot Tia said, flipping to the movie on her TV.
"So when are you going to ask Mason out," I asked, and she froze.
"I don't know what you are talking about," Tia said, clearing her throat and finding the movie.
"Come on, Tia, it's just us," I said, and Tia sighed.
"Fine, I don't think I can tell him how I feel," Tia said.
"And why is that?" I asked.
"Well, I don't want to ruin our friendship," Tia said, and I coughed.
"You know you won't know until you ask him," I said.
"I don't know," Tia said, and before I could say anything, someone knocked on the front door.
"I'll get it," I said and walked to the front door.
I looked back at Tia, playing with the ends of her braids with a sad look. I wish those two would talk to each other and go out. They would be a cute couple. I shouldn't say anything, and I can't even say anything to my crush. Then again, he is a straight man. So I opened the door and gasped because it wasn't the pizza guy.
