I woke up in a cold sweat lunging forward, feeling like crap. Before looking around, I held my head and realized I was safe in my room.
"Stupid nightmares," I muttered.
I reached over to my phone and saw that it was only 4 am, and I groaned and pulled the cover back because I knew that the chances of me going back to sleep were not going to happen. So I walked over to my keyboard, grabbed my headphones on top of it, and plugged it in. I started to play random notes, which turned into a song and another until suddenly I felt a tug on my headphones. I spun around, sliding my headphones off looked at my sister in her bunny pajamas.
"Yes," I said, and Nina huffed.
"How long have you been up?" Nina said.
"I don't know what time it is?" I asked.
"It is 10 am," Nina said. Have I really been playing for 6 hours?
"What's going on, Nina," I asked.
"Well, your phone has been going off for the past hour," Nina said. I walked over to my nightstand, looked at my phone, and saw that I had a bunch of notifications from Tia, Mason, my mom, and an unknown number. I saw the number called and left a voicemail, so I arched my eyebrow, started playing the voicemail, and held the phone to my ear.
"Uh, hey Steven, this is Caleb. I know it is weird why I have your number, but Tia gave me it the day before yesterday. I meant to call you, but she said that you guys had a movie night and that you would be busy. So uh, yea, wow, this message is getting long. I guess you call me when you are free. I wanted to see if I could cash in on some guitar lessons. Bye," Caleb said, and the message ended.
"Are you okay?" Nina asked. Looking back at her, my mouth opened like a fish out of water.
"C- Caleb called me," I said.
"Caleb Post?" Nina asked.
"Yes," I said, sitting on the bed.
"Okay, what did he say?" Nina said, sitting at the keyboard bench.
"Well, he was asking if I was free because he wanted me to teach him the guitar," I said, and Nina gasped.
"When did he call?" Nina asked. I looked back at my phone, checked the call log, and clicked on the number.
"8:30," I said.
"Today?" Nina said.
"No, last week, yes today Nina," I said.
"Okay, well, did he call just once?" Nina said.
"I don't know, let me check," I looked through the call log and pressed a button, and the screen lit up.
"Are you calling him?" Nina said. I started to panic, and before I could hang up the phone, the phone clicked on, and I heard Caleb's voice.
"Hello," I heard his deep voice say. I looked at Nina, and she was mouthing at me to say something. So I brought the phone up to my ear and took a deep breath.
"H- hey, Caleb," I said.
"Hey Steven, I thought I scared you off," Caleb said.
"N- no, I was working on my music and didn't hear my phone. Sorry," I said, and it was silent for a moment.
"That's good. Hey, listen, are you busy today?" He asked.
"Uh, no, I was just going to work on my music," I said.
"Oh well would you be against the company," Cable said, and I almost dropped my phone. So was Caleb asking to come over?
"I'm sorry, what," I said.
"I thought we could hang out, but if you don't want to, then" Caleb said.
"No! I mean, I don't mind," I said.
"Cool, I just finished my workout, so I am going to shower and change, and I'll head over," Caleb said.
"Y- yeah, I'll send you my address," I said.
"Okay, see you soon, Steven," Caleb said, and then the line went dead.
"So," Nina said.
"Uh, he is coming over," I said, holding the phone to my chest.
"Oh my god? Oh my god, you need to get ready," Nina said.
"What? Wait, Nina, don't you find it weird that he is coming over to someone he barely knows house?" I asked.
"Who cares? He wanted to see you. Now come on, you got to get ready," Nina said, pulling me up and pushing me toward the bathroom.
I sat in my room, pressing on my keyboard with my thoughts full of Caleb. I started thinking about the party last night with Caleb's interest in me, and now he is coming to my house. I began playing the melody of a song I was working on and heard a knock on the door.
"Come in, Nina," I said. After I got ready, Nina had been bothering me ever since, so I told her I would work on some music, so knock if it is important.
"I hope I am not interrupting you?" That was not Nina. I looked up and stared at Caleb standing in the doorway. His hair was brushed back, and he wore a black hoodie, grey jeans, and high tops. Dang, he looked good.
"Uh n- no, come in," I said, and he walked in, looking around my room.
"Sorry, I forgot to text you that I was coming. I forgot my phone at home," Caleb said, rubbing the back of his neck. I looked at him again and started to feel something was going on. I wanted to say something, but I thought he didn't want to say anything.
"So you said you wanted a lesson?" I said, and he gave me a confused look.
"Huh. Oh y- yeah, man, that would be great," He said. So I grabbed my guitar from the stand, walked over to him, and handed him the guitar before walking over to my desk, grabbing the chair, and pulling it up.
"Sit. We have a lot of work to do," I said, and Caleb sat in the chair, resting the guitar on his lap.
"Are you going to be one of those strict teachers?" Caleb asks, smirking at me.
"Well, that depends on how well you play," I said.
"Yes sir, teach me your ways," Caleb said with a stern look on his face, and I chuckled, placing a hand on his shoulder and feeling him tense up a bit before relaxing.
"Okay, your poster means a lot when you play the guitar. First, spread your legs like this and put the guitar here, and one hand goes here, and the other drapes off the body like this," I said, moving Caleb's body so he could hold the guitar properly.
"Thank Steven," Caleb said, looking up at me.
"Yea, no problem, Caleb. Now onto the lesson," I said.
Caleb nodded his head, and the lesson began. I started to feel happy that I was this close to Caleb and teaching him something I was interested in. As the lesson continued, I began to have nagging thoughts about why Caleb was here.
Steven was always the outcast who always turned to music whenever life got complicated, but what happens when the most popular guy in school starts taking an interest in him? will Steven reject his advances or give in and fall for the guy?
