After that awkward moment, people started to trickle in like raindrops. There were a ton of familiar faces, but they weren’t people I was really close with. It still sucks that Jin had to be in the class next door. I was pretty much clinging onto him to make sure that he came back to my class.
“Haruki!” exclaimed a male as he walked through the door. It was almost as if he was searching for me with how he kept looking around the classroom.
“Hey Denji,” I waved towards him.
Denji was around my height with short, black hair. He was the captain of the basketball team, so he was built enough that you could tell he worked out. He would’ve honestly been more popular if he wasn’t such an airhead, but I guess that doesn’t mean too much coming out of my mouth.
“I’m glad to find someone I know in my class,” Denji grabbed me and was pretty much crying.
“Shhh,” I tried to calm him down. “People are going to look at us.”
Before you knew it, there were eyes all over us. The guys seemed to be gossiping about us while the girls were whispering and giggling. What a terrible first impression.
“Sorry,” Denji wiped away his tears. “It’s just tough not having the rest of the team around.”
After a few seconds of silence, he started crying again, and the best I could do was pat his head. The door opened, and another familiar face appeared.
“Haruki!” exclaimed a female as she walked through the door. Again, it was almost as if she was searching for me with how she kept looking around the classroom.
“Hey Himari,” I waved towards her with Denji’s body still grabbing my side.
Himari was shorter than me with long, blonde hair. She was Vice President of the Student Council with most people seeing her becoming President next year. She was a huge nerd who always ranked within the top 10, but the boys still ranked her amongst the top 5 beauties within the school.
“I’m glad I found someone I know in my class,” Himari grabbed me and was pretty much crying.
“Shhh,” I tried to calm her down. “People are already looking at us because of Denji.”
And again, there were eyes all over us. The guys seemed to be gossiping angrily about us while the girls looked angry and jealous towards Himari. What weird standards.
“Get off Denji!” Himari started pushing him.
“I was here first, Himari!” Denji started pushing her.
“Stop before I tell him your embarrassing secret stash under your bed,” Himari kept pushing.
“You stop before I tell him about your hobby to collect a certain item,” Denji pushed back.
After a bit of time at realizing what the other said, I think they both gave up and realized that I wasn’t worth as much as those possessions. Childhood friends are really the weirdest people.
“Alright, both of you grab a seat before the teacher shows up,” I let out a sigh.
Denji grabbed the seat in front of me while Himari grabbed the seat on my left. To my right was still the girl who didn’t seem to move an inch since asking me why I was in her face. I figured it was best that I stopped talking to her for now.
As everyone continued to talk, the teacher finally walked through the door.
