Hey it's me long comment writer again and i just wanted to express how much i loved this chapter for a variety of reasons
1) subverting expectations: Up to this point the main plot since Alfred, Smiley, and Tyfel has largely followed the main plot with very minor changes, so much so that major story events are completely skipped over with usually only a few references, instead the plot has focused on developing and getting the main quartet with the overarching being just an assumed background feature. This has created an assumption for the reader that the main plot would be an unshakeable monolith that would always follow the exact beats of the game. So when anyone saw the warning in the beginning we all thought we knew what was going to happen, the only uncertainty was how the main four would react to it.
That is until the main four started concocting their own plan and when they started actually engaging with the plot as active player it throws the reader for a loop and instils a new kind of dread in them, the dread of not knowing how this is going to go but knowing their plan hast to end badly, it creates a dramatic irony where the reader know that this plan has to go wrong somewhere but now they have no idea how. This uncertainty dragges the reader back into being invested in the main plot instead of just the main characters so when things start going to shit in new but familiar ways it creates a catharsis that I didn't expect but absolutely loved.
2) The separation of the main characters: The last chapter made it clear that the duties of being the warrior of light have been divided between each of the main characters and this chapter that has led to interesting but realistic consequences. The division of work has led to the main quartet considering themselves a team, but a team separate from the scions who they mostly just consider their contractors, people who they don't fully trust and generally don't think would have their back if the worst came to the worst
