Skully slumped down on the sofa, he glanced around, Artemis did not seem to be around. He let out a grunt before he dragged Ellie’s body over to the fridge.
“So hungry… When was the last time Ellie ate?” He mumbled to himself as he peeked inside the fridge, feeling the chill on his hand as he reached inside to grab a can of ice cold beer.
“I guess I will just order Pizza.” Skully hummed, searching through Ellie’s pockets for her phone. “Ok, how does Ellie do this again?” Skully stared at the phone, poking the screen to unlock it.
The jingling sound of keys outside the door alerted Skully, he reached for the only thing that was on the coffee table, a heavy scented candle, eyes fixed on the door.
Door opened with a thud, Artemis’ eyes widened when she saw Ellie.
“Everything ok here?” Artemis asked, prancing to the kitchen with two bags full of groceries. She dropped the bags down on the counter, glancing over at Ellie again.
“Everything is great, I was just getting a good whiff of this candle.” Skully smirked, breathing in the scent of lavender before he placed the scented candle back on the table. Artemis raised an eyebrow, she thought Ellie was acting a bit strange.
“Are you sure? You know you can tell me anything right? I hope Luke is not giving you a hard time?” She remarked, slowly emptying the grocery bags.
Skully just wanted to order that pizza before Ellie returned, he glanced at the phone again. Wondering how he would explain this to Ellie, could he even get away with not explaining it anymore? Skully thought long and hard, he knew what he had to do.
“Actually, there’s something you should know.” He told Artemis. “I am not Ellie right now.” He explained candidly, glancing back at Artemis.
She almost dropped a carton of almond milk straight to the floor, her eyes narrowed as she stared at Ellie’s eyes.
“Then who are you?” Artemis inquired, putting the carton down on the counter.
“I’m Skully, somehow I can jump into Ellie’s body when she’s in grave danger. It’s convenient I guess, but also inconvenient.” Skully stated, looking down at Ellie’s palms.
Artemis stared in disbelief. “Wow, that’s pretty wild. How long does it last?”
“I don’t know, not very long, which is why I really need you to order me a fudging pizza!” Skully demanded desperately, breathing rapidly.
“Let’s get some pizza then.” Artemis cheered, she looked closely at Ellie’s face.
“Hmm, you know, your eyes have a green tint which wasn’t there before. I mean Ellie’s eyes.” She added, manoeuvring through her phone to find the right number.
“Ugh, I wish I had paid closer attention when Ellie was using her phone, I couldn’t remember her fudging code.” Skully grunted, falling back onto the sofa.
The apartment had an open layout, everything was in view from the sofa. Skully watched Artemis order pizza while she unpacked the rest of the groceries.
His mind kept going back to Wren, wondering if he was really his brother? Skully couldn’t wrap his mind around it, his memories seemed even further away right now. Did it really matter if he got his memories back? He wanted to be alive and feel things again, but at the same time there was a part of him that wanted things to stay the way they were right now. He leaned his head back, the large windows were right behind him, he could faintly see the stars twinkling in the sky. Skully could feel a tug at his core, his heart swelled, the stars felt so near. Skully noticed Artemis sitting down on the sofa, he glanced at her, she smiled sweetly. Her red hair fluttered to the side as she moved her head to take a sip of beer.
“What happened? You said you slip into Ellie’s body when she’s in grave danger… Something pretty bad must have happened…” Artemis asked, holding her beer can, leaning back on the sofa.
“Ah, some fudging vampire was waiting outside the door as we came back. He came for me… The fudging vampire said he knows me, and I shouldn’t come back.” Skully grumbled, he leaned forward, taking a large sip of beer.
Artemis had a pensive look on her face. “That sounds pretty serious. How did he know you were here in the first place? Was he from the council?” She questioned, looking straight at Skully, waiting for his reply.
“How the fudge should I know? He didn’t exactly say much, and Ellie has been going around quite a few places announcing my existence lately.” Skully sighed, glaring into his now empty beer can. They both looked up, hearing a knock at the door. Skully picked up the candle again.
Artemis glanced at him. “Seriously?” She teased. “I’m sure it’s just the pizza.” She stated as she casually opened the door.
Five minutes later they were both gorging on pepperoni pizza.
“This is all I’m dreaming of.” Skully mumbled, his mouth full of pizza.
Artemis laughed. “I’m sure it’s not all you’re dreaming of right? What about getting your own body back?” She remarked, picking up another slice.
“I guess… Ugh. Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure that Wren guy knows where my body is.” Skully suddenly proclaimed, hitting his fist on the table.
“Wren?” Artemis asked, her eyes widened slightly.
“Yes, that’s his fudging name.” Skully grunted, his eyebrows furrowed.
“I’ve heard that name before, it’s not exactly a common name. If it’s the same guy then you’re in deep shit. He works for the council, and is not exactly a stable guy…” Artemis warned Skully, her eyes shifting around the room.
“I think we should call Luke.” She told Skully, her face painted with worry.
“I…” Skully felt light all of a sudden, he saw her glossy lips moving but didn’t hear anything, before everything went black.
