Levi’s P.O.V
After arriving at school, I said goodbye to Jace and Amari, who kept questioning me about what I needed, as I kept telling them we’d talk at lunch. After they finally let me go, I walked into class and sat in my usual seat. I started taking my stationery out of my bag while waiting for the teacher to enter and begin the lesson.
The first period was maths, now let me just report that as much as I love studying, maths first thing in the morning should be illegal. I looked out the window and started brainstorming. How do I get Jace and Amari to reveal information about Kayden without them getting suspicious? That Jace, as much as he liked to act dump, is good at catching these things.
Think Levi think, use that gorgeous, smart brain of yours. Moments later, the teacher walked in. He placed his bag on the desk, taking things out.
“Good morning, class. I hope your brains are awake for me today,” he began giving us an evil smile as he crossed his arms against his chest, knowing full well none of us would ever be awake enough.
He started his laptop, then glanced up, looking around the class until he looked straight at me, surprising me in the process.
“Levi. Mr Lee wants to talk to you in his office at lunchtime. Make sure you go and see him”, Mr Kim added as he continued setting up for class.
“Yes, sir, I will”, I answered nervously, fidgeting in my seat. What could Mr Lee want with me? I’m not in trouble, am I?
My brain began to spiral, but I had to put a stop. Otherwise, it wouldn't stop.
I guess I will find out at lunch. After that, I cleared my head and started focusing on Mr Kim's teaching. Kayden managed to sneak in once or twice, but I pushed him out before I lost focus.
The day progressed smoothly, I walked in and out of different classes and got lost in thoughts about plans in between, but I couldn’t think of anything. Then, before I knew it, I heard the bell ring for lunch and started packing my stuff, preparing to exit the room and make my way to Mr Lee’s office.
While walking down, the hallway gets more crowded as it is filled with students. I walked by some students behaving like idiots playing with water and running around as I tried to avoid them bumping into me. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice the puddle of water in front of me, and before I knew it, I felt myself falling.
Oh no.
I gasped as I closed my eyes and waited for the impact, hoping it wouldn’t hurt as much as I knew it would. But in anticipation, I felt nothing, no pain; instead, the feeling of warm, strong arms wrapped around my waist, holding me close and tight in their grasp like if they’d let me go, I’d disappear. I opened my clenched eyes to look at who this person was and maybe hug them as a thank you for saving my butt. I looked up and saw their face so close to mine I could feel their breath fanning my cheeks. I notice the purple-coloured hair first, and I sense my stomach erupt with butterflies. I continued up and met the worried eyes looking at me.
It was Kayden…
My heart skipped a beat again, my eyes were wide with shock, and I blushed like no one’s business. Tell me how you would react in a situation like this because I have no idea, but one thing I am sure of is that I’m so freaking thankful for that wet floor.
“Of course you were,” crackled Jace from beside me, rolling on the floor laughing.
“Yeah, not going to lie, that was the highlight of my day”, I added, laughing along with my best friend. Anyway, where were we…
“Are you okay?” he asked, watching as he helped me stand straight.
“Ah… y..es I’m good… umm… than…k…hmmm… thank you so much,” I stutter, barely managing to get the sentence out as I struggle to catch my breath. But, seriously, we have got to stop having awkward meetings every time.
“It’s okay. Just be careful next time”, he answers.
Kayden smiled at me, making me swoon like always, and then he looked up at the boys who caused my perfect straight-out-of a K-drama moment, and I wanted to thank them so bad.
“Boys, seriously, someone could’ve gotten seriously hurt just now”, he spoke in his deep voice, eyeing them angrily.
“We are sorry, Kayden, we were just having fun”, one of the boys' answered, peering down at his feet.
“It's okay, I’m fine. Nothing happened,” I interfered, trying to calm the situation. But, instead, he looks at me with fierce eyes.
“Yeah, because I was there to help,” he glares back at the boys, “be thankful that nothing happened, or you would have been in big trouble”.
The boys apologised to both of us as they ran away quickly. “Are you sure you are okay?” he asked as he bent down to pick up my bag that fell to the floor handing it to me.
“Yeah, I’m perfect. Thank you again. You saved me there”, I said self-consciously, rubbing the back of my neck, blushing, and slowly turning into a tomato. Actually, a tomato would be jealous.
“You’re welcome. I will see you around, I guess” he winked at me before turning around to leave.
I stared at his back, watching as he slowly disappeared into the distance. Not knowing what to do, I just stand there hands on my chest as my heart gradually calmed down… what was happening to me?
As I stood in the middle of the hallway looking like an idiot. Someone pumped into me, taking me out of my daze, and I suddenly remembered where I needed to be; damn it, I was going to be late. I sprinted to Mr Lee’s office, hoping I wouldn’t be in trouble. I walked in, head down, apologising for being late. As I lift my head to meet the teacher's eyes, to my shock, I see Kayden standing there next to him.
“Levi, welcome. Glad you could make it. Come and join us so that I can talk to you both,” spoke Mr Lee, pulling me out of my one-sided staring contest against Kayden. I walked to stand next to Kayden, we nodded at each other, and our attention went back to Mr Lee, waiting for him to start talking.
“So boys, I called you here because I need your help; as you know, we have a multicultural day coming soon, and I need you two to help me plan it. You’ll oversee this and be in charge of the students helping with this. I’ve spoken to your teachers, and both of you are smart and capable enough to make this a successful day” Mr Lee finishes his sentence with an excited smile looking at us both.
“Of course, this won’t be for free. You will be compensated for your time with extra credit and gifts.” He added.
“Thank you, sir. I would love to help” Kayden smiled back at him, accepting his offer.
On the other hand, I stood there like a block of ice, trying to process what he just said… Kayden and I… me and Kayden… working… planning… alone… together… WHAT!
“Levi? What do you think” The teacher looked at me questioningly.
“Um… yes, sir, of course, I’d be happy to help. Thank you for trusting me”, I stated as I proudly said.
On the inside, I was a giant nervous mess.
Well, on the bright side, it kind of makes things easier. I’ll be spending heaps of time with Kayden now. I don’t need Jace and Amari anymore. I took deep breaths in. It’s okay, Levi, you can do this. Just act normally. You are an ordinary high school student who will not make an absolute idiot out of himself.
Yes, I will be calm and collected. I am in control of my emotions. I am Levi.
“That is amazing. I appreciate it, boys. Here are the details of the dates and the things you need to do. I will entrust everything to you but do let me know if you need anything” Mr Lee handed us a bunch of papers, and both Kayden and I reached out to grab them, making our hands touch again. I feel the electric shock coarse through my body at the simple touch. We both looked at each other and laughed as I let him have the papers. Deep breaths Lee, deep breaths. You are calm, you are collected, and your heart is not skipping. It is just having a slow walk on the beach.
We both walked out of the office. Kayden is looking over the papers, and he hands me a copy. “So I guess we have got to start planning this. Let’s set up a day where we can sit down and talk about this.”
“Yeah, sounds good. Just let me know when and where, and I will be there. Oh, that rhymed” I laughed cumbersomely. Someone kill me now; please end this stupidity of mine. I rubbed the back of my neck, trying to hide my embarrassment.
He laughed, which caused his head to tilt backwards, “cute.” He uttered under his breath. To my demise, I heard him and ended up making the tomato jealous again.
I am not calm. I am not collected. Someone take this man away from me before he kills me. ‘breaking news: a handsome young student dies from excessive blushing.’
“How about tomorrow after school? We can meet at a café and discuss it there. I think it’s better than staying in school. We get to drink some yummy coffee,” he asked, pulling me out of my dramatic fantasy world.
“That sounds good to me,” I smiled, staring at him while he skimmed through the sheet of paper. I honestly can't get over how handsome he is, the way his hair sways with the wind, shimmering. It made me want to brush my fingers through it, feel the softness of his locks against my skin…
Breathe, Levi, breath, damn it.
“Great, give me your number so we can stay in contact in case anything happens” he took out his phone and handed it to me.
I grabbed his phone, punched my number in and gave it back to him quickly to avoid him seeing how much I was shaking.
“Alright then, I’ll text you.” He waves at me before leaving.
I walked to the cafeteria to meet Jace and Amari there.
“Hey, where were you? we’ve been waiting for…” He looks at his apple watch, then back at me “...Forever,” he sighs.
I gave him a weirded-out look, “why did you look at your watch if you were going to say forever anyway?”.
“I just like to be dramatic but forget about it. What did you want to talk to us about? I've been thinking about it all day. I couldn't even focus on my make-out session. You know how much I hate not giving my man my full attention.” He turns around, hugging Amari and kissing his cheeks apologetically.
I sat down at the table, avoiding their lovey-dovey display of affection. Now that I have an excuse to meet and talk to Kayden, I don’t need their help anymore. Oh, thank god I can avoid the lifetime of I told you so from Jace… well, for now, at least.
“Yeah, about that… I actually solved it, and I don’t need your help anymore. Thank you, though.” I smiled at them quickly, avoiding meeting their eyes, taking my lunch from my bag.
“What? No. Nope, hell nah. You will tell me what you wanted, and you will tell me now” He lifts his finger, pointing at my face. I gulped, looking around for an excuse to run away. But, instead, I spot Mr Lee in the crowd, perfect.
“Oh looks, it’s Mr Lee, he spoke to me at lunch, and I forgot to tell him something, um, I’ll tell you everything later” I scramble to pack my things, and before Jace Can say anything, I get up to leave.
“Bye guys, talk to you later,” I wave at their confused faces. Well, Amari was confused while Jace was cursing my existence. Oh Well, that’s tomorrow Levi’s problem.

**A Few Hours Later**
I finally get home, exhausted from trying to avoid Jace for the rest of the day. But, man, he’s so persistent.
“Mother, I’m home,” I yelled through the door, throwing my bags on the couch and lying down with a huff.
“Welcome home, sweetie. Lunch will be ready soon. Go wash up and come down” She peeked her head from the kitchen with a smile, then dipped back into her sacred place. My mom loved her kitchen. Sometimes, I think she loved it more than me. She loves to cook, and in her words, ‘she wants her kitchen to vibe with her,’ I cringed as I remembered my mother’s words.
After lunch, I went to my room, preparing to do my homework for the day—a few hours into my ultra-focused Levi mode. Then, I heard my phone vibrate on the table. I peeked at the screen to find a message from Kayden. My heart dropped to my knees, and I started to freak out.
KAYDEN 🤤
Hi Levi, I wanted to confirm for tomorrow after school. Do you want to go together and meet there? Sent 6:45 PM
I looked at the message with wide eyes. Oh my god, that’s right, I’m meeting him tomorrow… how could I forget? What do I do?
What do I wear?
What do I SAY?
I got up with my phone in my hand to my closest, opened it up and started throwing clothes out, trying to find what I would wear.
“Too casual… Too formal… Too sluty, gotta return this to Jace.” I muttered as I kept throwing items out.
Then it hit me… we wear school uniforms; I don’t need an outfit. So stupid. Get the hang of yourself, Le. You are a grown-ass man. I huffed as I sat on the floor, exhausted.
In my frantic state, I failed to realise that I, in fact, did not lock my phone, and I accidentally touched my screen. Doing something I still kick myself for doing to this day…
“Hello.”
I froze. What was that?
“Hello, Levi?”
I looked at my phone in horror, displayed on the screen bright as day…
1:45
KAYDEN 🤤
“SHIT…”
