Previously he had been warned numerous times: don’t be so bouncy on stage. He never responds all that much, yet that afternoon, in the middle of Philadelphia summer heat, just now has he feel somewhat bad for not listening seriously.
Sam gets his cheekbones bashed. Arya isn’t really aware; too euphoric in swinging around left and right, his guitar flying like crazy. It’s just that he does heard (always like the usual) Sam’s bass lines go wobbly a few notes. Something that probably becomes more apparent because Underwater Veins — in particular — features prominent bass parts. Sam is still playing his bass when Arya turns, but he’s cringing in obvious pain. My, oh, my. The bruise is visible right then.
Arya dashes towards him, his steps bouncy, spring and light even while wearing thick platform shoes. He asks, you okay?, voice subdued by Irfan’s soaring vocal and the raves of their fans. Sam tries to guess by reading his mouth. He’s still cringing. Yet he winks at Arya and the show goes on. Arya stays by his side to the end of the song, glancing every once in a while, still carrying guilt.
When the song ends, Irfan’s voice and Uka’s riff dissipating into the air, Arya then tiptoes to kiss Sam on his cheekbones up on the stage. Sam grins brightly, his bruises not to ache again until they all fall down on their touring bus’ beds.
