"The Lord says,“Small and weak as you are, Israel, don't be afraid; I will help you.
I, the holy God of Israel, am the one who saves you."
Isaiah 41 : 14
Feeling fear is not a sin, that feeling will always come, if by chance you pray to never fear again... I have some rather unpleasant news, it won't work. But I have good news, courage is doing it even when you're scared!
Sometimes we fantasize about things too much, we associate courage with a person who doesn't feel fear, almost inhuman. It's exactly the opposite, the brave are afraid, the difference between them and the scaredy cat are their actions.
The brave dominate their fear, the fearful one is commanded by it.
'Oh, I wish I was like so-and-so, full of courage!' In fact, you can, you just lack the right attitude. When fear comes, instead of running away, face it.
Do you know what it's like to be terrified of cockroaches? When I saw one I would run away. One day I challenged myself to change my attitude, I ran to get a flip flop to smash it. I was shaking a lot but I did it! I hit it more than three times just in case, that day I proved to myself that the problem wasn't the roach, it was my attitude towards it.
When fear takes hold of you, a little problem looks like a big problem, in reality it's just something silly. Today, I challenge you whenever possible to overcome your fears, now not with all of them.
Some of our fears are normal, they serve to protect us and keep us out of trouble. So please don't try to take a selfie with your head in a lion' s mouth. I'm telling you just to let you know, I am sure no one would actually do that. It was just to highlight: courage, not stupidity.
We have the notion to discern real danger from imaginary, you are walking at night in a dark and deserted street, unless it is the only one that takes you to your destination, you will definitely go the other way because there really is a risk of being robbed, the danger is real.
When there's no other path, it's the only way, God will keep you safe and you can go peacefully. But if you have another alternative yet still choose to try your luck on the dangerous path, thinking that God will protect you… I have something urgent to tell you.
"Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
Luke 4 : 12
Let's see an unreal danger, imagine yourself again, walking along a busy street during the day, noticing an acquaintance coming towards you, almost a stranger as you rarely talk. Inevitably, they will pass you by, here comes that doubt: Greet or pretend I didn't see them? What if I speak and the person ignores me, but I don't and it offends?
In the end, you don't know what to decide for fear of what the other will think. In that case, I dare you to be polite and say hi even if you don't get a response. That's a way to overcome your insecurity, it's also a kind of fear.
"So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Isaiah 41 : 10
