“If the Old Duke arrives tomorrow, we'll have to strictly check the dose of suppressant for the Young Lord, even more closely than before,” the Lycan physician, who was treating Heath, said to Harriet.
Harriet stared at the physician inquiringly.
"Didn't Madam say that His Grace Old Duke will bring Young Lord Goldlane's Mate back home? We are worried that maybe the dose of suppressant would be too high and Young Lord would overdose, or there might be too little so that Young Lord might immediately go out of control again,” explained the physician.
This time Harriet understood. Her brows furrowed deeply, and she felt a little uncomfortable because she didn't know what to do.
"I'll have Daniel and the guards prepare themself in case of something happens then," said Harriet.
The physician smiled and nodded in agreement at Harriet's words. Perhaps because of Harriet's experience dealing with her brother by herself in the West, Harriet already knew what to do.
Just yesterday, they received a letter from the Old Duke about the victory in the West. Harriet had been busy with every preparation for welcoming the convoy and other small things with Daniel.
She was glad that everything was more or less settled, but many details needed her attention. Harriet's concentration didn't break at all because she had strong hope about all of this.
After Harriet passed what the physician had said to Daniel, she turned to look at the window in the hall she was walking past. The sun was almost setting, and she remembered she didn't have time to wipe Liam's body today...
She felt a little guilty because she was preoccupied with many other things.
But she planned to start taking a break now. On the spiral staircase of the tower, she passed the servants who came down after wiping Liam's body. Harriet's steps were unhurried as she climbed, but her heart felt anticipation, like a faint trace of longing.
She opened the door and entered the darkened room.
The maid had already opened the ceiling panels. The candles had also been lit, and Liam lay motionless in bed.
Harriet didn't approach immediately, only taking in the view of the room filled with the red glow of the setting sun. She had hoped that Liam would open his eyes and call out to her, but it seemed that Harriet was getting greedy because things had been going well lately.
As Harriet stepped forward to get closer, she started to smile. She snapped herself out of all her childish thoughts and began to sit on the bedside chair. She then, as usual, opened the book she was reading.
“What would the Old Duke say if he saw you awake without the help of the full moonlight, Milord?” asked Harriet quietly, not expecting an answer.
And indeed, no answer came.
Harriet was lost in that atmosphere when she was suddenly awakened by Amelia–
"Madam!"
Harriet gasped as she woke up, looking around her dark surroundings. She fell asleep leaning against the bedside while reading a book, it seemed. Harriet turned towards the door, where Amelia ran up to her.
“Madam, the Young Lord! Young Lord Goldlane is out of control!” said Amelia, panicked.
Harriet immediately stood up and dashed down from the tower. Amelia had explained that Daniel had placed a lot of guards who were also Lycans, with stricter control measures than before, as Harriet had requested.
"You really can read the future, Madam," Amelia said as she quickly followed Harriet.
“Not really, it's a preparation that turned out to be very useful. But wasn't the physician himself handling the amount of Heath's dosage? How did my brother get out of control like this?” asked Harriet, glancing over at Amelia, who shook her head because she didn't know the answer either.
From the windows of the castle passage, they saw Heath, who had completely transformed into a giant wolf on the castle grounds, ravaging every plant and object there.
Many Lycans surrounded him, and most of them were knocked back while trying to hold him back. Harriet knew if she went there now, she wouldn't be of much help. However, this was the Northern Castle, and the city was not far from here. If her brother got out of control in the city, things would go wrong.
Harriet had tried to restrain Heath with the help of the knights using a thick and long rope, yet her brother still managed to break away from it all. That was why, when Harriet saw Daniel and dozens of other Lycans carrying dozens of thick and long chains, Harriet felt like laughing.
"Wow..." she mumbled.
“Ah, but those chains won't work for an Alpha…” Amelia muttered.
Harriet turned to Amelia and opened her mouth wide in disbelief.
"I'm serious," said Amelia.
"Then what can we do?" asked Harriet.
“Of course, forcing Young Lord Goldlane to take more doses of suppressants in the meantime,” explained Amelia.
But Harriet still felt weird. Why did her brother suddenly get out of control like this? Did the physician miscalculate?
Harriet decided to find her brother's physician. She questioned many servants who passed her and finally found the physician being treated by another physician because his arm was injured.
“M… Madam,” the physicians there immediately bowed to Harriet.
The injured physician looked at Harriet with guilty eyes.
"I'm sorry, Madam. It seems like we miscalculated," said the man.
Harriet waited for further explanation with furrowed brows.
“Looks like the Old Duke and the mate of Young Lord Goldlane will arrive tonight, sooner than we thought,” said the physician. “Because of that, the Young Lord has sensed his mate approaching at this time and has begun to rampage.”
Harriet blinked in understanding.
“How can we stop it, then?” asked Harriet quietly.
The physician looked doubtful at Harriet's determined eyes.
“Madam, we have to wake him up. We have to force his consciousness out before his mate arrives here. Otherwise, he could injure his own Mate," said the physician.
"But we haven't been able to wake him up all this time, right?" asked Harriet, confused.
“Yes, it was because he was under the effect of the suppressant. If his Mate arrives while the Young Lord is still under suppressant, then slowly the imprinting process can be carried out safely. But now that the Young Lord has gone on a rampage, taking even stronger doses of the suppressant might just cause him to overdose…”
Harriet didn't really understand this, but the point was they had to be able to wake up her little brother's consciousness inside the monster.
"You might have the chance to succeed, Madam. You are Young Lord's sister," said the physician then. “But it's really dangerous, and that's why we don't know what to do either…”
"I understand," Harriet nodded and turned to leave.
Harriet didn't listen to the calls of the physicians, and Amelia tried to discourage her. They even chased after her but didn't dare stop Harriet, who was just staring straight at the courtyard where Heath was still raging.
Harriet was the Luna. Harriet's words and decisions were of equal weight to an Alpha. So they could only worriedly follow her from behind.
When Daniel saw Harriet approaching, the man panicked even more. He raised his hand and shouted at Harriet not to come any closer. But Harriet kept moving forward.
Harriet stared at Daniel deeply, cutting off the words Daniel wanted to say.
"Can you hold my brother for a while so he can't move?" she asked quickly.
Daniel furrowed his brows. He was wondering what Harriet had in mind.
"For just a few seconds, we might be able to. But we're not sure either, Madam," Daniel replied.
Harriet racked her brain. They didn't know where the Old Duke and his convoy were, and Harriet was afraid her brother would endanger the civilians in his pursuit of his Mate, who was still with the Old Duke.
If they could hold off Heath until the Old Duke arrived, perhaps they could solve this problem.
Hearing Harriet's brief explanation, Daniel took off his clothes. Amelia, who saw it gasped. "Dan, you are going to…?"
Daniel nodded.
"I'm not Alpha, but I can hold him for a moment," the man said quietly.
Daniel planned to try and hold Heath in his wolf form.
