She rolled her eyes before getting up and grabbing a new one for herself. The omega sat on his knees and patted at the nest chirping at her. "Prrrupt!" He called, Logan had heard him use that chirp with her a few times now. She guessed that's what he called her. "I'm not leaving." She said adjusting the shirt and walking back over to the nest. "See?" She said climbing back into the nest. The omega smiled pleased and hugged her pulling her down next to him. Logan took this chance to reach for her sleeping bag and fold it up to rest under their heads.
He moved closer to her, Logan wrapped her arms around him with a sigh. She didn't feel like thinking about what to do later. She was too tired for now. Feeling strangely comfortable she fell asleep. When she woke up the next day, Logan sat up slowly to find the little omega was gone.
"Little guy?" She asked looking around, but she was met with silence. She guessed he had gotten what he wanted and decided to bounce. "I can't believe he hit and it quit it." She grumbled feeling a little strange about this. But still, she didn't need to be out here. So she got dressed and gathered her things.
She stepped out of the cave adjusting her boots and looked around. She looked over the valley and saw her grandparent's cabin in the distance. "I wonder if I have a signal?" She asked pulling out her walkie-talkie. "Gramps?" She asked as she pressed the button. There was static, "Gramps?" She called again, "Can you hear me?" "Lo-gan!" She heard the choppy voice of her grandfather on the other end. She stepped out further from the cave and his voice became clearer. "Logan! Are you okay?! Where are you!"
"Uhhh I'm fine..." Logan said giving herself a once over, "Something strange has happened though." She spoke, "Uhhh I met an omega?" She was unsure how to explain this. "An omega?" Her grandfather sounded confused.
"Yeah, I was heading down to the campsite and I slipped and twisted my ankle. Got a nasty cut on my forehead too." She explained, "So I treated myself and I set up a little camp across the river from the usual site." She continued, "Then this omega shows up that night. I gave him some candy and I guess after I fell asleep it rained super hard so he brought me to what I can only describe as his nest?" Logan felt as she explained what went on that this sounded ridiculous.
"Well you're lucky he did, the campsite flooded and there was a major rock slide." Her grandfather chimed in. "We were sure something happened to you!" He exclaimed sounding grateful. "Wow." Logan said sounding surprised, "There's a bit more though." Logan added after a moment. "What's that?" Her grandfather asked, "I... I may have marked him?" Logan said a little embarrassed. "He... uh showed up in heat... When he brought me back to his nest he was still in heat... It was raining pretty hard and one thing led to another and uh... I marked him... He marked me too."
Her grandfather was silent for a long while. Then he spoke, "Logan... What did this omega look like?" He asked, "He's got long copper hair, a ton of freckles, and he was only wearing what looked like a loincloth?" Logan was now sitting on a rock kicking her feet as she spoke. Her grandfather let out a long sigh, "You are my granddaughter." He grumbled. "Excuse me?" Logan asked confused.
"Logan, have you ever heard of ferals before?" Her grandfather asked, Logan took a moment to think about it. Ferals were something she learned about in college. It was some sort of religious sect that believed living more naturally and closer to instincts was holy. So like a hundred years ago a ton of them started living out in the wild. "Yeah, I guess. They're a bunch of crazy people who live out in the wild." Logan said casually before pausing, "I... Is he a feral?" Logan asked after a moment.
"I believe so." Her grandfather responded, "There are four groups of them that move around the valley." Her grandfather explained, "Your grandmother is actually a member of one of the groups." He added after a moment, Logan nearly dropped the walkie hearing that. "What?!" She exclaimed. "So her visiting her family—?!" "Is her visiting with her tribe."
Logan was silent before she then spoke up, "Gramps... Did you go camping and your heat hit?" She asked, her grandfather was an omega so it only stood to reason that's what happened. "Yes." Her grandfather spoke up. "Why didn't you tell me about this?" Logan asked, "I thought it would be fine because you're an alpha! I didn't know there'd be an omega running around in heat looking for an alpha! They usually stay in the camps and villages when they're in heat!" Her grandfather exclaimed exasperated. "It's usually the alphas that go looking..." he grumbled sounding embarrassed.
Logan sighed and leaned back on the rock, "Well, he's gone now so..." She trailed off feeling a little sad, "He probably went back to camp." She said after a moment. Her grandfather let out a thoughtful noise. "Probably." He said, "Where are you by the way?" He asked after a moment. "Uhh about due west from the cabin, I'm up at the top of a hill. You should probably be able to see me." Logan said standing up and waving.
She saw a small figure of her grandfather walk out onto the porch. He turned around and spotted her and waved back. "I would say stay there and I'll come to get you. But, it's probably best you start heading back Logan." Her grandfather spoke, "If he's left then that probably means he's rejected you." He explained, "How do you know that?" Logan asked, her grandfather groaned.
"Your grandmother followed me around constantly after... That..." He grumbled, "when we were able to talk she explained to me it's tradition to stay with your new mate for at least three days." He added after a moment, "How long has it been since you've marked him?" He questioned.
"About a day," Logan responded feeling increasingly upset. She sighed, well it was probably for the best. It'll take a while for the mark to heal though... "Yeah, that's probably what happened." Her grandfather sighed, "I'm so sorry." He apologized. Being rejected after marking was never a good thing. It was likely that Logan was going to get sick soon from the rejection.
Logan's lip twitched, "It is what it is." She said with a shrug. "I'll go gather my things and start making my way back." She told him. "Alright." Her grandfather responded. Logan shut off the walkie to save batteries and went back inside to grab her things.
It sucked... But it was for the best. She sniffled a bit trying to keep her emotions in check as she packed her things. Her instincts were telling her to stay with her mate. But she ignored them. No sense staying where she wasn't wanted. She had already made that mistake once. Adjusting the bag on her back she then started out of the cave and down the hill. It was about afternoon so she could probably get a good start on the trek back home.
She was halfway down the hill when she heard a wail. Looking behind her she heard faint crying and a chirping sound. "Prrrupt!" It repeated as if calling out. Unable to stop herself she climbed back up the hill to find the omega in tears looking around. "PRRUPT!" He called louder, he looked hysterical. He fell to his knees sobbing still wearing the shirt she had given him earlier.
She looked to his feet and saw a basket of food scattered on the ground, had she misunderstood the little guy? "Hey!" She shouted walking up past the tree line. "Hey!" She called again, the omega froze and turned around to face her. His eyes widened he scrambled to his feet and he ran to her stumbling a bit before jumping into her arms. He cried and shook as he wept. Then he hit her chest hissing and growling. They were weak hits but it broke her heart. She could only guess he was scolding her. She hugged him tightly and let out a shaky croon trying to calm him down.
She didn't know what else to do. So she copied what she had seen her grandmother do whenever her grandfather got mad. His shaking stopped and he sniffled burying his face into her neck. "I'm sorry." She mumbled kissing his cheek. She carried him up to the cave and sat her things down before sitting him down in the nest. He glared and hissed at her throwing whatever he could get a hold of at her. Which ended up being a couple of pelts and the sleeping bag she forgot to pack.
"Okay, I deserve that." Logan sighed after they hit her face. She sat the pelts and bag down on the nest before going to clean up the food at the cave entrance. The omega screamed at her and tackled her to the ground from behind. Logan turned around to face him and he sobbed grabbing her hands and putting them on his neck over his mark.
She got the general idea of what he was saying, 'I'm sorry, don't leave me, I'm your mate.' Logan felt her eyes fill with tears, "I'm... I'm not leaving you." She sniffled a few tears escaped her eyes, she quickly wiped them away, she then pulled the omega down into a hug and placed her mouth over his neck biting down slightly. Not enough to break the skin but it was the only way for her to communicate that she wasn't trying to reject him. In fact, she had thought he had rejected her first.
She pulled her mouth away from his neck and felt the omega relax just a bit. He was still upset but he seemed to understand just a little bit better. Logan shifted and then, managed to stand up with the omega in her arms. She then walked over at the mouth of the cave and motioned to the mess before beginning to pick it up. The shaking in the omega stopped and he let out a sigh of relief. He slipped out of Logan's arms and began to help her clean up. Once the food was back in the basket. Logan carried it back into the cave and sat down on the floor next to the nest sitting the basket beside her.
One thing she knew no matter if an omega was feral or not. You didn't go into their nest uninvited. Especially after making them mad. She untied her boots to check her ankle. It had been twisted further when she was tackled to the floor. It was swollen. "Shit." She grumbled knowing that even if she wanted to, she couldn't head back now. Not until the swelling went down. It would hurt too much doing that long of a hike on her ankle.
The omega stood there before crouching and slowly inching towards her ankle then lightly touching it. Her chirped sadly and looked at her before motioning to the food. Logan tilted her head before sighing, "Oh you went to get food." She said feeling stupid. The omega knew she was injured so he went to get food for them.
She grabbed his hand and pulled her close to him. "I'm sorry, I thought you didn't want me so I was leaving not to bother you." She spoke, despite knowing that he couldn't understand her. So she settled on pulling his face close and kissing him briefly.
The omega seemed to relax and he moved closer resting his head on her chest. He seemed tired. Logan pulled him into her lap and sat there on the cave floor. She crooned for him despite knowing it didn't sound as good as it should. Honestly, it was a little embarrassing. But he seemed to like it. "Thank you for getting food." She said softly as she rubbed his back.
She was sure he was still sore from being in heat and yesterday. She hadn't been exactly gentle with him. Getting an idea she then pulled the omega back who seemed sleepy so he could look at her. He let out a soft questioning noise.
She then motioned to herself, "Logan." She said patting her chest, "Lo... Gan." She repeated her name. She wanted to know what his name was. She couldn't keep calling him little guy. "Logan." She patted her chest again before resting a hand on his chest and patting it. He looked down and looked concerned, he tried to say something but it came out as a rough screech. She saw his cheeks turn pink with shame.
Could he not talk?
