The kid wore a dress made out of pelts. The kid looked kind of scared as if they had been caught doing something they shouldn't. Logan stared at the small child before turning back to what she was doing. She didn't know the culture of how to address children. So she decided it was best to ignore them.
The child yelled something at her that Logan couldn't understand. She turned and stared. She had a neutral expression but that still made the child uncomfortable. The child picked up a rock and tried to throw it at her but it fell flat on the ground. Tears pricked out of the kid's dark eyes and they glared at Logan as if it was her fault.
Logan raised an eyebrow and turned away heading back inside. She didn't need to speak their language to know that kid didn't like her for whatever reason. Logan went back inside and sat down next to the fire on her camping stool slowly pouring water into the large pot. She waited until it was boiling before adding things in.
She had a beef stew soup mix that she poured in with some freeze-dried beef. She grabbed some of the vegetables and added them to the pot. Carefully stirring she felt a presence next to her and saw the kid standing there.
Their cheeks were puffed out from frustration and they glared at her clearly wanting attention. Logan sighed, "Where the hell are your parents?" She grumbled before turning back to what she was doing. The kid would eventually get bored and leave.
After a few minutes, she heard a familiar chirp and she saw Beau walk in. "Prrupt!" He called, "In here Beau!" She responded immediately, she didn't want a repeat of yesterday. Beau rounded the corner and stopped staring at the child sitting on the cave floor next to Logan's feet. He seemed startled and looked to Logan who shrugged. "I don't know who this is." She told him. The child looked up and spoke even going so far as to glare at Beau. Beau's eyes widened and he sighed, he rubbed his arms up and down nervously while hugging himself.
Logan took this chance to eye him and noticed his braid looked looser than what it should've been. "Beau." She called getting up, he perked up and tilted his head. "Your hair." She remarked touching it lightly. Beau flinched and looked upset.
"Hey, it's okay." She said grabbing his shoulders and smiling. "I can fix it for you." She said before lightly kissing his forehead. Beau seemed to relax and Logan slowly led him over to the nest motioning for him to sit down. She grabbed the brush and sat behind him. The child eyed the two of them and watched curiously. Logan undid the braid causing the child to shout, but the child quieted down when they saw Logan begin to brush Beau's hair.
Beau had a happy but embarrassed look on his face. Slowly he relaxed and let out a purr clearly enjoying the feeling of his hair being brushed. Finally when it was smooth. Logan began to carefully re-braid his hair. Beau's purring became a little louder by the time she was done. She hugged him from behind after tying the hair off and kissed his cheek.
Beau seemed pretty happy to have his hair fixed and the child looked between the two of them. The child looked at their shoulder-length hair and played with it a bit looking sad. Logan didn't care for the kid but to see a sad child was pretty upsetting. But she didn't want to touch them because she didn't know what that would mean.
The last thing she wanted was some angry parents to storm in and give poor Beau an even harder time. So instead she climbed off the nest and headed back towards the cooking food. Beau seemed curious and followed after. Logan ladled out soup for him.
Beau seemed surprised and smiled, "Careful it's hot." Logan said pointing from the fire to the soup. Beau nodded seeming to get the idea. He then turned around towards the child and chirped at them. He nudged his head towards the fire and the child scrambled up to their feet and sat down next to him. Beau took a small bowl off the ground and poured some of his own soup into it. He then handed it to the child who seemed excited about food.
He mimed to them that the food was hot and the child said something and nodded. They blew on the food before taking sips. Logan held out her hand towards Beau who seemed confused, she tapped her ladle on the pot and nudged her hand. Beau seemed to get the idea and Logan refilled his bowl.
Most of his soup had been given away. It made no sense to have him sit there without any food if there was plenty left. Especially after he was good enough to get more food from the village.
Beau's cheeks were red as he took the bowl back. He made a happy-sounding noise and Logan chuckled pleased he was happy. The child was still eating so Logan then poured herself a bowl and began to eat as well. Beau only started eating after she began to eat.
While Logan only ate a bowl, the child ate two and Beau ate two. He was a little shy about wanting the second bowl but Logan insisted. After everything was done. Logan filled the pot with enough water to keep the broth from burning, perpetual stew was a favorite of Logan's to make even outside of camping. It was a great way to feed several people very easily.
The child yawned softly looking full and happy. Logan looked to Beau who had a soft affectionate look on his face. The kid was no more than six by Logan's guess. Beau glanced over at Logan before grabbing the sleeping bag. Beau laid it on the floor folded and placed the child onto it.
Beau looked to Logan to see her reaction and she nodded to let him know it was okay. It was late, it wouldn't be right to send this kid out into the dark. Beau grabbed a pelt and placed it over the child like a blanket before smiling at Logan. "Prrupt." He chirped softly, Logan smiled at him.
She slowly stood up and walked over to Beau, "You're sweet." She mumbled before kissing him. Beau purred and rested his head under her chin. He seemed almost relieved for some reason. The two of them crawled into the nest and went to sleep.
The next morning Logan felt a smaller form squeezed between her and Beau. Opening her eyes she saw that kid again. Looking closer she could tell the kid was probably a little girl. She was fast asleep laying her head on Logan's arm. Beau woke up shortly after Logan and smiled at her before looking down at the child.
All color from his face faded within an instant. He sat up and went to wake the child in a panic. Logan grabbed his hand with her free arm before he could wake the little girl. "Hey. It's okay." She said slowly pulling his arm towards her and kissing his hand. Beau froze and his eyes slowly filled with tears. They trickled down his face and he whimpered.
Logan was confused, those didn't look like tears of sadness they looked like he was relieved. She reached over and wiped them away from his face not understanding what the big deal was. The little girl slowly stirred awake and froze when she saw the two of them staring at her.
She let out a nervous laugh and Logan grinned pinching her nose a little. She squirmed and Logan released her easily. "You're a little brat." She teased chuckling. The little girl sat up looking between her and Beau. Who smiled and nodded softly.
The little girl scrambled out of the nest and grabbed the brush and some hair ties with red cheeks she scrambled back up the nest and scooted in front of Logan holding the brush and ties out in her hands. Her little hands shook and she looked nervous. Logan sat up and looked over at Beau confused. Then she noticed something.
The kid kind of looked like Beau. Her eyes widened, was this...? She looked over at Beau who seemed nervous and played with his braid. The little girl stared intently at Logan. Logan took a breath and smiled before taking the brush and ties. This didn't bother her really. But what bothered her was the implications. Beau was unmarked before her, that little alpha showed up at Beau's cave randomly and tried to force his way in. Beau looked scared of him.
Had Beau been hurt by that alpha? And did this little one come from that?
How terrible and awful. If Logan had known that little shit had done this, she would've killed him on sight. Taking advantage of Beau because he couldn't tell anyone. She softly turned the little girl around and began to brush her hair much in the way she did with Beau.
She heard Beau let out a breath of relief and saw him relax. The little girl fidgeted a little but it seemed to be from nervousness and happiness. She did that sort of sitting dance that little kids do whenever they were really happy about something. Logan chuckled finding it cute, no matter what it wasn't that little girl's fault how she came into this world. Her hair was a little short to braid like Beau's so Logan braided strands of hair at the top and let the rest flow free.
"There you go," She said patting lightly on the little girl's shoulder. She reached up slowly and touched her hair. She said something to Beau and then burst into tears. "Hey! Hey, it's okay!" Logan grabbed the little girl and pulled her into a hug. She clung tight to Logan sobbing. Logan rubbed her back as she hiccuped and whimpered.
"It's alright... Everything's fine." She said soothingly. She looked to Beau and smiled at him. Beau seemed like he was so relieved. Once the little girl calmed down Logan then realized she could communicate with her. Grinning at her she motioned to herself, "Logan." She said patting her chest, "Lo... Gan..." She sounded out her name.
The little girl sniffled, "Logun." Her pronunciation wasn't perfect but was close enough. Logan grinned and nodded. She then tapped the little girl's chest. "Roe." The little girl responded, "Roe?" Logan repeated. Roe sniffed and nodded. "Roe!" Logan exclaimed hugging her. She then wondered if Roe knew Beau's real name.
"Roe." She said pulling away, she pointed to Beau. Roe seemed to put things together and said "Papa." Beau flinched and sighed. That was pretty universal. There was no denying it now. Seeing Beau's upset look Logan looked back at Roe. "Mama." She said motioning to herself with a grin. "Logan, Mama." She clarified. Beau pursed his lips together shifting, he looked happy hearing that.
"Mama?" Roe asked startled, "Yes! Logan Roe's Mama." Logan felt silly talking like this but she wanted to stress to the both of them that she wasn't going to reject this little one. "Mama..." Roe's cheeks turned red and she smiled. Logan grinned pleased she got it. What a smart kid.
She must get it from Beau. "Beau," Logan called motioning him over, Beau moved close and she hugged them both. Roe let out a squeal of delight clearly liking this. "Mama!" Roe exclaimed jumping from her lap, she started saying words that Logan didn't understand but she smiled and nodded listening to her. Roe then tried to pull Logan out of the nest. Beau chirped chiding and pointed at Logan's swollen ankle.
"Mama!" Roe exclaimed worried, "Papa!" Roe then started saying more words that Logan couldn't understand, it was killing her not to be able to. Logan took this chance to slip out of the nest and head to her bag. Both Roe and Beau fretted but Logan pulled out her first aid kit. While she wouldn't be able to walk long distances.
She did want to at least walk around with Roe for a bit. She was sure the little girl wanted to show off everything as much as she could. Logan was curious so she wanted to go. Logan splinted her ankle up a bit more than what she had. Beau and Roe watched curiously. Once she was satisfied, she slipped her feet into her boots once more and grinned. "Roe, Beau." She said pointing to the mouth of the cave. She hoped they got the idea that she wanted to go out.
Beau seemed to understand and nodded. He went to head out of the cave but Logan stopped him. "Beau." She said grabbing a different shirt and handing it to him. Beau had turned the other one into a sort of toga. A thin rope was tied around his waist. It was dirty now and needed to be changed for sure. Roe seemed fine.
She noticed that the little one was wearing what looked like really well-crafted pelts as a sort of dress. Logan could only guess that Beau dressed her well and left nothing for himself. Beau seemed to get the idea and stripped off his shirt handing it to Logan and putting the new one on. Logan helped him fasten the rope around his waist. Which he seemed to be pleased about.
"Papa!" Roe exclaimed happily she said another word and Beau blushed. He then kneeled down and Roe ran up to him. Beau picked her up easily with one arm and went to grab the basket. But Logan grabbed it for him. "You have Roe." She said pointing to Roe in his arms.
Beau gaped at her as Logan walked past him carrying the basket. She spotted a good sturdy stick just outside the cave and grabbed it. Leaning on it a bit she tested the durability and was pleased. It wasn't perfect but it could replace her walking stick. Beau walked up behind her tilting his head. "Mama!" Roe exclaimed giggling. "Roe," Logan responded grinning. The three of them walked down the path and Logan saw what looked to be a pretty large village of at least two hundred people.
They walked slowly down the path, Logan knew she was holding them up but Beau was patient. He seemed almost proud to have her out and about with him. His head was held up high and there was a smug look on his face. Roe held a similar one as she tilted her head every which way as if showing off her braid. Logan chuckled softly finding it cute.
As they made their way into the middle of the village Logan felt stares on the three of them. Children had been playing and people had been talking just moments before but now it was quiet. They seemed shocked, Beau grinned ear to ear.
Logan smiled as well clearly amused, she pieced together in her head a narrative of Beau being an outcast and everyone being surprised that he would find a mate. They probably didn't think Logan was real until now. Beau went about his business gathering food from stands and paying for it with what looked like quartz crystals. Logan held out the basket letting Beau put what he liked in it and carried it for him.
"Prrupt." Beau called her as he looked at a stand with jewelry, "Beau?" Logan responded walking over towards her. Beau motioned to what looked like children's jewelry and then pointed at Roe. Logan glanced around and noticed children were wearing similar necklaces around their necks. She also noticed that some of the omegas in the village had their hair braided and their body's covered in an almost toga-like way.
Logan scanned the jewelry guessing she was supposed to pick for Roe. Thinking thoughtfully she then picked a necklace with rose quartz on it with a green crystal. Roe let out a cry of surprise and smiled brightly. "Mama!"
