I clanked my front door shut. The heat of my cosy little flat brought red petals of colour to ice cold cheeks. I probably should have come straight home tonight considering the flurry of snow outside. Ah well, after all it had been ages since I have had a chance to go drinking with Faye and Alric.
I shedded clothes messily behind me as I headed straight for my bed in the corner of the room. Tidying and washing could wait till tomorrow when I have the day off. Instead I climbed into a well worn cotton night gown before cocooning myself in a ridiculous number of blankets. I have always found it hard to get warm enough to sleep comfortably. Maybe it is because of how damn cold it is outside but I felt cosy and sleepy almost instantly.
---
Whoa now I am too hot! I blindly flail trying to dislodge the layers of fabric. Huh nothing is budging?
"Come on get lost you lousy blankets. One last push and I am opening my eyes to deal with you." I mutter sleepily.
Nothing happens. Blinking stickily I notice that my pale blue blanket instead appears to be a grey wall of fur. What I took for a fold of blanket wrapped around my chest is a well muscled foreleg and now I am paying more attention I can hear steady breathing. I twist my body again trying to lever the leg off me. I can feel my own muscles straining in rhythm with their chest bumping up and down beside me. No movement again. I adjust to see if I can get their attention. I make out the bottom of a fuzzy lupine head which I can barely reach the end of.
"Hey get off me!" I yell as much as my dry throat allows. "Hey!" I add a heavy push. Like every other thing I have tried I get no reaction.
"Huh." I give their nose a heavy boop. No reaction. Screw it, I can't move their heavy limbs and i'm not sure screaming again is going to help. Probably the stupidest idea I have ever had but I choose instead to fall gently back to sleep. After all this has just got to be come weird dream.

Dawn tints a rosy chill as I sit bolt upright on top of the covers in my own bed. Just a dream after all.
Poppy's life is simple. She works as a Librarian at an Arcane University, lives alone in a small flat and sometimes goes out drinking with her friends.
There is absolutely nothing special about her.
So why every night for the past month has she woken in the middle of the night in a giant wolf's embrace? Is it just a weird dream? Or is something else going on?
