To shed a little light on the Shiee-Gaoy: The Shiee-Gaoy are an oviparous people, and their egg-shells are a kind of metal. The Shiee-Gaoy, being a war-like people (at this time anyway), use their egg-metal to make their helmets. Sort of a tradition or rite, I guess you could call it.
I'm guessing that Keti (brother) or maybe even Tyshao (daddy) or Sseoeih (mommy) gave Tempus their shell-metal so that he could craft his own helmet. :)
The Shiee-Gaoy also have brain powers. Telekinesis, telepathy, etc. If you want to know more, ask my sister, zimeta, as she is the species' creator~
And, I guess while I'm at it: Sseoeih is kind of retired as a warrior (notice that she barely has any armor plates on her jumpsuit). Tyshao still does lots of fighting (which is why he will most often still go around in full armor), but not as much as he used to. This is because he and Sseoeih had Keti--gotta take care of the kids, you know. ;)
