Payton groaned to herself, they had only laid down an hour ago and she had already gotten up to use the bathroom three times. She was sure she was going to wake up Kendall if she hadn't already if not because of her bathroom breaks because of her hands. She didn't know where to put them. Worst of all she didn't know how to lay. She couldn't get comfortable. Great grade school sleepovers all over again. She remembered those. She, Kendell, and Nell would all have sleepovers at Kendell's house. Then somewhere around middle school Nell started dating and spent her weekends with her boyfriends and that left Kendall and Payton alone. You couldn't imagine how happy Payton was when Kendall started dating in high school, she figured Kendall would stop with the sleepovers. But no. Weirdly. And no she didn't start inviting her boyfriends, it was just the two of them. “You can go downstairs if you are more comfortable,” Kendall mumbled, her back to Payton.

“No, I'm fine.” 

“Then why are you so fidgety?” Kendall asks rolling over to face the other girl.

"I just can't sleep." Payton sighs her eyes on the ceiling.

"Why don't I believe you?" Kendall asks scooting closer to the other woman, frowning when Payton scoots away from her touch. "Okay, seriously what's going on?" Kendall asks sitting up on her elbow so she looms over Payton.

"I said I'm fine-"

"No, your not," Kendall yells.

"Shh, Kendall, you're going to wake up your Mom-"

"I don't care, I care about what's so wrong you can't sleep-"

"Fine!" Payton hollers sitting up almost bonking heads with Kendall causing the other girl to sit back on her arm. "You wanna know what's wrong? I can't sleep next to you," Payton whispers earning a confused look from Kendall, "I like you. I have since middle school. And I can't sleep next to you because it feels like I'm violating you." 

"What?" Kendall whimpers as a tear starts to fall from her eye.

Payton's face goes stone-like as she watches the tear trail it's way down Kendall's cheek before standing up and leaving the room with a curt 'I'm sorry' before closing the door softly. Kendall can't move. She wants to get up. But she can't move, it's like someone poured concrete over her legs. Feels like she's violated me? I need to tell her it's okay that I feel the same way and that I'm not mad at her...why can't I move? Kendall thinks as she looks down at her legs trying to will them to move. The sound of her sobs was broken by a quiet knock on the door, Payton? No, it was her mother giving her that motherly smile that simultaneously made her feel worse and yet so much better. Her mother held her till she fell asleep that night. The next morning Kendall woke up to a delicious smell that brought her downstairs. But while the smell was nice it couldn't distract her from the hope that swells up in her chest, hope that Payton was downstairs waiting for her. But she wasn't. Her mother gave her a sympathetic smile from her spot at the stove, "She left as soon as she woke up. Didn't even stop to have coffee. Just ran for the door."

Kendall nodded softly before sitting down at the table.
